1 N ow Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, with masons and carpenters, to build him a house.

Chiram, re di Tiro, inviò a Davide dei messaggeri, del legname di cedro, dei muratori e dei falegnami, per costruirgli una casa.

2 S o David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, for his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of His people Israel.

Allora Davide riconobbe che il Signore lo stabiliva saldamente come re d’Israele, poiché la sua dignità regale era grandemente esaltata per amore d’Israele, del popolo di Dio.

3 T hen David took more wives in Jerusalem, and David begot more sons and daughters.

Davide si prese altre mogli ancora a Gerusalemme e generò ancora figli e figlie.

4 A nd these are the names of his children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

Questi sono i nomi dei figli che gli nacquero a Gerusalemme: Sammua, Sobab, Natan, Salomone,

5 I bhar, Elishua, Elpelet,

Ibar, Elisua, Elpelet,

6 N ogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

Noga, Nefeg, Iafia,

7 E lishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet. The Philistines Defeated

Elisama, Beeliada ed Elifelet.

8 N ow when the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went out against them.

Quando i Filistei ebbero udito che Davide era stato unto re di tutto Israele, salirono tutti in cerca di lui; e Davide, saputolo, uscì loro incontro.

9 T hen the Philistines went and made a raid on the Valley of Rephaim.

I Filistei giunsero e occuparono la valle di Refaim.

10 A nd David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” The Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.”

Allora Davide consultò Dio, dicendo: «Dovrò salire contro i Filistei? Li darai nelle mie mani?» Il Signore gli rispose: «Sali, e li darò nelle tue mani».

11 S o they went up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.

I Filistei dunque salirono a Baal-Perasim, dove Davide li sconfisse, e disse: «Dio ha infranto i miei nemici per mano mia come si infrangono le acque». Perciò fu dato a quel luogo il nome di Baal-Perasim.

12 A nd when they left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.

I Filistei lasciarono in quel luogo i loro dèi che, per ordine di Davide, furono dati alle fiamme.

13 T hen the Philistines once again made a raid on the valley.

Poi i Filistei tornarono a occupare quella valle.

14 T herefore David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.

Davide consultò di nuovo Dio; e Dio gli disse: «Non salire dietro a loro; allontànati e gira loro intorno; giungerai su di loro dal lato dei gelsi.

15 A nd it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”

Quando udrai un rumore di passi tra le vette dei gelsi, esci subito all’attacco, perché Dio marcerà alla tua testa per sconfiggere l’esercito dei Filistei».

16 S o David did as God commanded him, and they drove back the army of the Philistines from Gibeon as far as Gezer.

Davide fece come Dio gli aveva comandato, e gli Israeliti sconfissero l’esercito dei Filistei da Gabaon a Ghezer.

17 T hen the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.

La fama di Davide si sparse per tutti i paesi, e il Signore fece in modo che egli incutesse spavento a tutti i popoli.
