1 I n the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

2 “ The Lord has been very angry with your fathers.

«Il Signore si è molto adirato contro i vostri padri.

3 T herefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.

Tu dirai loro: Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Tornate a me”, dice il Signore degli eserciti, “e io tornerò a voi”, dice il Signore degli eserciti.

4 “ Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.”’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord.

“Non siate come i vostri padri, ai quali i profeti precedenti si rivolgevano, dicendo: ‘Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Tornate indietro dalle vostre vie malvagie, dalle vostre malvagie azioni!’ Ma essi non diedero ascolto e non prestarono attenzione a me”, dice il Signore.

5 “ Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

“I vostri padri dove sono? E quei profeti potevano forse vivere per sempre?

6 Y et surely My words and My statutes, Which I commanded My servants the prophets, Did they not overtake your fathers? “So they returned and said: ‘Just as the Lord of hosts determined to do to us, According to our ways and according to our deeds, So He has dealt with us.’”’” Vision of the Horses

7 O n the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet:

8 I saw by night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and it stood among the myrtle trees in the hollow; and behind him were horses: red, sorrel, and white.

Questa notte ho avuto una visione: ecco un uomo in groppa a un cavallo rosso; egli stava fra le piante di mirto nella valle; dietro a lui c’erano cavalli rossi, sauri e bianchi.

9 T hen I said, “My lord, what are these?” So the angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what they are. ”

Io dissi: «Che significano queste cose, mio signore?» L’angelo che parlava con me mi disse: «Io ti farò vedere che cosa significano queste cose».

10 A nd the man who stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, “These are the ones whom the Lord has sent to walk to and fro throughout the earth.”

L’uomo che stava fra le piante di mirto prese a dire: «Questi sono quelli che il Signore ha mandati a percorrere la terra».

11 S o they answered the Angel of the Lord, who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked to and fro throughout the earth, and behold, all the earth is resting quietly.” The Lord Will Comfort Zion

Quelli si rivolsero all’angelo del Signore che stava fra le piante di mirto e dissero: «Noi abbiamo percorso la terra, ed ecco tutta la terra è in riposo e tranquilla». Promesse per Gerusalemme

12 T hen the Angel of the Lord answered and said, “O Lord of hosts, how long will You not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which You were angry these seventy years?”

Allora l’angelo del Signore disse: « Signore degli eserciti, fino a quando rifiuterai di avere pietà di Gerusalemme e delle città di Giuda, contro le quali sei stato indignato durante questi settant’anni?»

13 A nd the Lord answered the angel who talked to me, with good and comforting words.

E il Signore rivolse all’angelo che parlava con me delle buone parole, delle parole di conforto.

14 S o the angel who spoke with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I am zealous for Jerusalem And for Zion with great zeal.

Allora l’angelo che parlava con me mi disse: «Grida e di’: Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: “Io provo una gran gelosia per Gerusalemme e per Sion;

15 I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease; For I was a little angry, And they helped— but with evil intent. ”

provo un grande sdegno contro le nazioni che se ne stanno ora tranquille e che, quando io m’indignai un poco contro di essa, contribuirono ad accrescere la sua disgrazia”.

16 ‘ Therefore thus says the Lord: “I am returning to Jerusalem with mercy; My house shall be built in it,” says the Lord of hosts, “And a surveyor’s line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’

Perciò così parla il Signore: “Io mi rivolgo di nuovo a Gerusalemme con compassione; la mia casa sarà ricostruita”, dice il Signore degli eserciti, “e la corda sarà di nuovo tesa su Gerusalemme”.

17 “ Again proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “My cities shall again spread out through prosperity; The Lord will again comfort Zion, And will again choose Jerusalem.”’” Vision of the Horns

18 T hen I raised my eyes and looked, and there were four horns.

Poi alzai gli occhi, guardai, ed ecco quattro corna.

19 A nd I said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” So he answered me, “These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

Chiesi all’angelo che parlava con me: «Che significano queste corna?» Egli mi rispose: «Queste sono le corna che hanno disperso Giuda, Israele e Gerusalemme».

20 T hen the Lord showed me four craftsmen.

Il Signore mi fece vedere quattro fabbri.

21 A nd I said, “What are these coming to do?” So he said, “These are the horns that scattered Judah, so that no one could lift up his head; but the craftsmen are coming to terrify them, to cast out the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

Chiesi: «Questi che vengono a fare?» Egli mi rispose: «Quelle sono le corna che hanno disperso Giuda, tanto che nessuno alzava più il capo; ma questi vengono per spaventarle, per abbattere le corna delle nazioni che hanno alzato il loro corno contro il paese di Giuda per disperderne gli abitanti».
