1 L a parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

The word of the Lord came again to me, saying,

2 E t toi, fils de l'homme, Prononce sur Tyr une complainte!

Now you, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre,

3 T u diras à Tyr: O toi qui es assise au bord de la mer, Et qui trafiques avec les peuples d'un grand nombre d'îles! Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Tyr, tu disais: Je suis parfaite en beauté!

And say to Tyre, O you who dwell at the entrance to the sea, who are merchant of the peoples of many islands and coastlands, thus says the Lord God: O Tyre, you have thought and said, I am perfect in beauty.

4 T on territoire est au coeur des mers; Ceux qui t'ont bâtie t'ont rendue parfaite en beauté.

Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders have perfected your beauty.

5 A vec des cyprès de Senir ils ont fait tous tes lambris; Ils ont pris des cèdres du Liban pour t'élever un mât;

They have made all your planks and boards of fir trees from Senir; they have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.

6 I ls ont fabriqué tes rames avec des chênes de Basan, Et tes bancs avec de l'ivoire travaillé dans du buis, Et apporté des îles de Kittim.

Of the oaks of Bashan they have made your oars; they have made your deck and benches of boxwood from the coasts of Cyprus, inlaid with ivory.

7 L e fin lin d'Égypte avec des broderies Te servait de voiles et de pavillon; Des étoffes teintes en bleu et en pourpre des îles d'Élischa Formaient tes tentures.

Of fine linen with embroidered work from Egypt was your sail, that it might be an ensign for you; blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah was the awning which covered you.

8 L es habitants de Sidon et d'Arvad étaient tes rameurs, Et les plus experts du milieu de toi, ô Tyr, étaient tes pilotes.

The inhabitants of Sidon and of Arvad were your oarsmen; your skilled and wise men, O Tyre, were in you; they were your pilots.

9 L es anciens de Guebal et ses ouvriers habiles étaient chez toi, Pour réparer tes fissures; Tous les navires de la mer et leurs mariniers étaient chez toi, Pour faire l'échange de tes marchandises.

The old men of Gebal and its skilled and wise men in you were your calkers; all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in you to deal in your merchandise and trading.

10 C eux de Perse, de Lud et de Puth, servaient dans ton armée, C'étaient des hommes de guerre; Ils suspendaient chez toi le bouclier et le casque, Ils te donnaient de la splendeur.

Persia and Lud and Put were in your army as your men of war; they hung the shield and helmet in you; they gave you beauty and splendor.

11 L es enfants d'Arvad et tes guerriers garnissaient tes murs, Et de vaillants hommes occupaient tes tours; Ils suspendaient leurs boucliers à tous tes murs, Ils rendaient ta beauté parfaite.

The men of Arvad with your army were upon your walls round about and valorous men were in your towers; they hung their shields upon your walls round about; they have perfected your beauty and splendor.

12 C eux de Tarsis trafiquaient avec toi, A cause de tous les biens que tu avais en abondance; D'argent, de fer, d'étain et de plomb, Ils pourvoyaient tes marchés.

Tarshish carried on traffic with you because of the abundance of your riches of all kinds; with silver, iron, tin, and lead they traded for your wares.

13 J avan, Tubal et Méschec trafiquaient avec toi; Ils donnaient des esclaves et des ustensiles d'airain En échange de tes marchandises.

Javan (Greece), Tubal, and Meshech traded with you. They exchanged the lives of men and vessels of bronze for your merchandise.

14 C eux de la maison de Togarma Pourvoyaient tes marchés de chevaux, de cavaliers et de mulets.

They of the house of Togarmah (Armenia) traded for your wares with horses, cavalry horses, and mules.

15 L es enfants de Dedan trafiquaient avec toi; Le commerce de beaucoup d'îles passait par tes mains; On te payait avec des cornes d'ivoire et de l'ébène.

The men of Dedan traded with you; many islands and coastlands were your own markets; they brought you in payment or as presents ivory tusks and ebony.

16 L a Syrie trafiquait avec toi, A cause du grand nombre de tes produits; D'escarboucles, de pourpre, de broderies, De byssus, de corail et de rubis, Elle pourvoyait tes marchés.

Aram (Syria or Mesopotamia) and Edom traded with you because of the multitude of the wares of your making. They exchanged for your merchandise emeralds, purple, embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and agate or rubies.

17 J uda et le pays d'Israël trafiquaient avec toi; Ils donnaient le froment de Minnith, La pâtisserie, le miel, l'huile et le baume, En échange de tes marchandises.

Judah and the land of Israel, they were your traders; they exchanged in your market wheat of Minnith, olives or early figs, honey, oil, and balm.

18 D amas trafiquait avec toi, A cause du grand nombre de tes produits, A cause de tous les biens que tu avais en abondance; Elle te fournissait du vin de Helbon et de la laine blanche.

Damascus traded with you because of the abundance of supplies of your handiworks and the immense wealth of every kind, with wine of Helbon and white wool.

19 V edan et Javan, depuis Uzal, Pourvoyaient tes marchés; Le fer travaillé, la casse et le roseau aromatique, Étaient échangés avec toi.

Vedan also and Javan traded with yarn from Uzal for your wares; wrought iron, cassia, and calamus were exchanged for your merchandise.

20 D edan trafiquait avec toi En couvertures pour s'asseoir à cheval.

Dedan supplied you with precious cloths for riding.

21 L 'Arabie et tous les princes de Kédar trafiquaient avec toi, Et faisaient le commerce en agneaux, en béliers et en boucs.

Arabia and all the princes of Kedar, they were the merchants in lambs, rams, and goats favored by you; in these they traded with you.

22 L es marchands de Séba et de Raema trafiquaient avec toi; De tous les meilleurs aromates, De toute espèce de pierres précieuses et d'or, Ils pourvoyaient tes marchés.

The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; they exchanged for your wares the choicest of all kinds of spices and all precious stones and gold.

23 C haran, Canné et Éden, Les marchands de Séba, d'Assyrie, de Kilmad, Trafiquaient avec toi;

Haran and Canneh and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad were your traders.

24 I ls trafiquaient avec toi en belles marchandises, En manteaux teints en bleu, en broderies, En riches étoffes contenues dans des coffres Attachés avec des cordes, faits en bois de cèdre, Et amenés sur tes marchés.

These traded with you in choice fabrics, in bales of garments of blue and embroidered work, and in treasures of many colored rich damask and carpets bound with cords and made firm; in these they traded with you.

25 L es navires de Tarsis naviguaient pour ton commerce; Tu étais au comble de la richesse et de la gloire, Au coeur des mers.

The ships of Tarshish were your caravans for your merchandise, and you were replenished and were heavily loaded and made an imposing fleet in the heart of the seas.

26 T es rameurs t'ont fait voguer sur les grandes eaux: Un vent d'orient t'a brisée au coeur des mers.

Your rowers have brought you out into great and deep waters; the east wind has broken and wrecked you in the heart of the seas.

27 T es richesses, tes marchés et tes marchandises, Tes mariniers et tes pilotes, Ceux qui réparent tes fissures Et ceux qui s'occupent de ton commerce, Tous tes hommes de guerre qui sont chez toi Et toute la multitude qui est au milieu de toi Tomberont dans le coeur des mers, Au jour de ta chute.

Your riches, your wares, your merchandise, your oarsmen and your pilots, your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise, and all your men of war who are in you, with all your company which is in your midst, sink in the heart of the seas on the day of your ruin!

28 A ux cris de tes pilotes, Les plages d'alentour trembleront;

The waves and the countryside shake at the sound of the cry of your pilots.

29 E t tous ceux qui manient la rame descendront de leurs navires, Les mariniers, tous les pilotes de la mer. Ils se tiendront sur la terre;

And down from their ships come all who handle the oar. The mariners and all the pilots of the sea stand upon the shore

30 I ls feront entendre leurs voix sur toi, Et pousseront des cris amers; Ils jetteront de la poussière sur leurs têtes Et se rouleront dans la cendre;

And are heard wailing loudly over you, and they cry bitterly. They cast up dust on their heads; they wallow in ashes,

31 I ls se raseront la tête à cause de toi, Ils se revêtiront de sacs, Et ils pleureront sur toi dans l'amertume de leur âme, Avec une vive affliction.

And they make themselves bald for you and gird themselves with sackcloth, and they weep over you in bitterness of heart and with bitter mourning and wailing.

32 D ans leur douleur, ils diront une complainte sur toi, Ils se lamenteront sur toi: Qui était comme Tyr, Comme cette ville détruite au milieu de la mer?

And in their wailing they take up a lamentation for you and lament over you, saying, Who was ever like Tyre, the destroyed (the annihilated), in the heart of the sea?

33 Q uand tes produits sortaient des mers, Tu rassasiais un grand nombre de peuples; Par l'abondance de tes biens et de tes marchandises, Tu enrichissais les rois de la terre.

When your wares came forth from the seas, you met the desire, the demand, and the necessities of many people; you enriched the kings of the earth with your abundant wealth and merchandise.

34 E t quand tu as été brisée par les mers, Quand tu as disparu dans les profondeurs des eaux, Tes marchandises et toute ta multitude Sont tombées avec toi.

Now you are shattered by the seas in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your crew have gone down with you.

35 T ous les habitants des îles sont dans la stupeur à cause de toi, Leurs rois sont saisis d'épouvante, Leur visage est bouleversé.

All the inhabitants of the isles and coastlands are astonished and appalled at you, and their kings are horribly frightened and shudder greatly; their faces quiver.

36 L es marchands parmi les peuples sifflent sur toi; Tu es réduite au néant, tu ne seras plus à jamais!

The merchants among the people hiss over you; you have become a horror and a source of terrors. You shall be no more.
