1 « Inno di Davide» Proteggimi, o Dio, perché io mi rifugio in te

Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

2 H o detto all'Eterno: «Tu sei il mio Signore; non ho alcun bene all'infuori di te».

O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;

3 T utta la mia affezione è riposta negli uomini santi ed onorevoli che sono sulla terra.

But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

4 I dolori di quelli che corrono dietro ad altri dèi saranno moltiplicati; io non verserò le loro libazioni di sangue e non pronuncerò con le mie labbra i loro nomi.

Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.

5 L 'Eterno è la mia parte di eredità e il mio calice; tu, o Eterno, tieni al sicuro quel che mi è toccato in sorte.

The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

6 P er me la sorte è caduta in luoghi dilettevoli; sí, una bella eredità mi è toccata.

The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

7 I o benedirò l'Eterno che mi consiglia; il mio cuore mi ammaestra anche di notte.

I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

8 I o ho continuamente posto l'Eterno davanti ai miei occhi; poiché egli è alla mia destra, io non sarò mai smosso.

I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 P erciò il mio cuore si rallegra, e la mia anima esulta per la gloria della mia eredità; anche la mia carne dimorerà fiduciosa e al sicuro,

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

10 p erché tu non lascerai l'anima mia nello Sceol e non permetterai che il tuo Santo veda la corruzione.

For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

11 T u mi mostrerai il sentiero della vita; c'è abbondanza di gioia alla tua presenza; alla tua destra vi sono delizie in eterno.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
