1 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 « Figlio d'uomo, volgi la tua faccia verso Gog del paese di Magog, principe di Rosh, Mescek e Tubal, e profetizza contro di lui,

Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

3 e di' Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Ecco, io sono contro di te, o Gog, principe di Rosh, di Mescek e di Tubal.

And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

4 I o ti farò tornare indietro, metterò uncini nelle tue mascelle e ti farò uscire con tutto il tuo esercito, cavalli e cavalieri, tutti vestiti splendidamente, una grande moltitudine con scudi grandi e piccoli, tutti maneggianti la spada

And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

5 e con loro la Persia, l'Etiopia e Put tutti con scudi ed elmi.

Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:

6 G omer, e tutte le sue schiere, la casa di Togarmah, le estreme parti del nord e tutte le sue schiere, molti popoli sono con te.

Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.

7 P reparati e sii pronto, tu con tutte le tue moltitudini radunate intorno a te, e sii per loro un guardiano.

Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

8 D opo molti giorni tu sarai punito. Negli ultimi anni verrai contro il paese sottratto alla spada, i cui abitanti sono stati raccolti da molti popoli, sui monti d'Israele, che sono stati per tanto tempo una desolazione; ora essi, fatti uscire di fra i popoli, abiteranno tutti al sicuro.

After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.

9 T u salirai, verrai come un uragano, sarai come una nuvola che ricopre il paese, tu con tutte le tue schiere e molti popoli con te».

Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.

10 C osí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «In quel giorno accadrà che ti verranno in mente dei pensieri e concepirai un malvagio disegno.

Thus saith the Lord God; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:

11 D irai: o salirò contro questo paese di villaggi senza mura, andrò contro gente tranquilla che abita al sicuro, che dimora tutta in luoghi senza mura e non ha né sbarre né porte

And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

12 p er saccheggiare e fare bottino, per stendere la tua mano contro luoghi devastati ora ripopolati e contro un popolo raccolto fra le nazioni, che si è procurato bestiame e ricchezze e dimora sulle alture del paese.

To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

13 S ceba, Dedan, i mercanti di Tarshish, e tutti i suoi leoncelli ti domanderanno: "Sei venuto per saccheggiare? Hai radunato la tua moltitudine per fare bottino, per portare via argento e oro, per prendere bestiame e beni, per fare un grosso bottino?"

Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

14 P erciò, figlio d'uomo, profetizza e di' a Gog: Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: In quel giorno, quando il mio popolo d'Israele dimorerà al sicuro non lo saprai tu?

Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord God; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?

15 V errai dalla tua dimora, dalle estreme parti del nord, tu e molti popoli con te, tutti a cavallo, una grande moltitudine e un potente esercito.

And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:

16 S alirai contro il mio popolo d'Israele, come una nuvola che copre il paese. Questo avverrà negli ultimi giorni: ti condurrò contro il mio paese affinché le nazioni mi conoscano, quando sarò santificato in te davanti ai loro occhi. o Gog».

And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

17 C osí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Non sei tu quello di cui parlai nei tempi antichi per mezzo dei miei servi i profeti d'Israele, i quali per anni, in quei giorni, profetizzarono che ti avrei fatto venire contro di loro?

Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?

18 M a avverrà in quel giorno, nel giorno in cui Gog, verrà contro la terra d'Israele», dice il Signore, l'Eterno. «che il mio furore mi salirà alle narici.

And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face.

19 N ella mia gelosia e nel fuoco della mia ira, io dichiaro che in quel giorno ci sarà certamente un grande scuotimento nel paese d'Israele:

For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;

20 d avanti a me tremeranno i pesci del mare, gli uccelli del cielo, le bestie della campagna, tutti i rettili che strisciano sul suolo e tutti gli uomini che sono sulla faccia della terra; i monti saranno rovesciati, i luoghi scoscesi crolleranno e tutte le mura cadranno al suolo.

So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

21 I o chiamerò contro di lui la spada su tutti i miei monti», dice il Signore, l'Eterno, «la spada di ognuno si volgerà contro il proprio fratello.

And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man's sword shall be against his brother.

22 E seguirò il mio giudizio su di lui con la peste e col sangue e farò piovere su di lui, sulle sue schiere e sui molti popoli che sono con lui, pioggia scrosciante, pietre di ghiaccio, fuoco e zolfo

And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

23 C osí mi magnificherò e mi santificherò e mi farò conoscere agli occhi di molte nazioni, e riconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno».

Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.
