1 « Canto dei pellegrinaggi.» A te alzo i miei occhi a te che siedi nei cieli.

Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

2 E cco, come gli occhi dei servi sono rivolti alla mano dei loro padroni e gli occhi della serva alla mano della sua padrona, cosí i nostri occhi, sono rivolti all'eterno, DIO nostro, finché egli abbia pietà di noi.

Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

3 A bbi pietà di noi o Eterno, abbi pietà di noi perché siamo oltremodo sazi di disprezzo.

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

4 L 'anima nostra è oltremodo sazia dello scherno degli arroganti e del disprezzo dei superbi.

Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
