1 A nd Israel abode in Shittim; and the people began to commit fornication with the daughters of Moab.

Пока Израиль стоял в Шиттиме, израильтяне начали развратничать с моавитянками,

2 A nd they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods.

которые приглашали их на жертвоприношения своим богам. Народ ел и кланялся их богам.

3 A nd Israel joined himself to Baal-Peor; and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

Так Израиль сочетался с Баал-Пеором, и Господь разгневался на Израиль.

4 A nd Jehovah said to Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may be turned away from Israel.

Господь сказал Моисею: – Возьми всех вождей этого народа и повесь их у всех на виду перед Господом, чтобы погас пылающий гнев Господа на Израиль.

5 A nd Moses said to the judges of Israel, Slay every one his men that have joined themselves to Baal-Peor.

И Моисей сказал судьям Израиля: – Пусть каждый из вас предаст смерти тех из своих людей, кто поклонялся Баал-Пеору.

6 A nd behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought a Midianitish woman to his brethren, in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of the whole assembly of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the entrance of the tent of meeting.

В это время некий израильтянин привел в свою семью мадианитянку на глазах у Моисея и всего общества израильтян, когда они плакали у входа в шатер собрания.

7 A nd Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose up from among the assembly, and took a javelin in his hand,

Увидев это, Пинехас, сын Элеазара, сына священника Аарона, оставил собрание, взял копье

8 a nd he went after the man of Israel into the tent-chamber, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. And the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

и вошел за израильтянином в его шалаш. Он пронзил копьем их обоих, израильтянина и женщину в живот. Тогда мор среди израильтян прекратился,

9 A nd those that died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

но погибших от него было двадцать четыре тысячи человек.

10 A nd Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

Господь сказал Моисею:

11 P hinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

– Пинехас, сын Элеазара, сына священника Аарона, погасил Мой гнев на израильтян. Он возревновал ревностью, подобной Моей, и Я не искоренил их в Своей ревности.

12 T herefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace!

Итак, скажи ему, что Я заключаю с ним завет мира.

13 A nd he shall have it, and his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.

С ним и его потомками заключается завет вечного священства, потому что он ревностно защищал честь своего Бога и совершил для израильтян отпущение.

14 A nd the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, the prince of a father's house of the Simeonites.

Израильтянина, который был убит вместе с мадианитянкой, звали Зимри, сын Салу, он был вождем семьи из рода Симеона.

15 A nd the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was tribal head of a father's house in Midian.

А убитую мадианитянку звали Хазва, она была дочерью Цура, который был вождем рода, главой семьи в Мадиане.

16 A nd Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

Господь сказал Моисею:

17 H arass the Midianites, and smite them,

– Считайте мадианитян врагами и убивайте их,

18 f or they have harassed you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague because of the matter of Peor.

потому что они поступили с вами, как с врагами, обманув вас в деле с Пеором и своей сестрой Хазвой, дочерью мадианского вождя, убитой, когда из-за Пеора начался мор.
