1 I t pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty satraps, who should be in all the kingdom;

Дарию было угодно поставить сто двадцать сатрапов, чтобы они управляли всем царством,

2 a nd over these, three presidents—of whom Daniel was one—to whom these satraps should render account, and that the king should suffer no loss.

а над ними – трех сановников, одним из которых был Даниил. Сатрапы должны были отчитываться перед ними, чтобы царю не было никакого ущерба.

3 N ow this Daniel surpassed the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to appoint him over the whole realm.

Скоро Даниил так отличился среди сатрапов и сановников своими исключительными качествами, что царь уже думал поставить его над всем царством.

4 T hen the presidents and the satraps sought to find a pretext against Daniel with respect to the kingdom; but they could not find any pretext or fault; inasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

Тогда сановники и сатрапы стали искать предлог, чтобы обвинить Даниила в неверном ведении царских дел. Но это им не удалось, потому что он был верен, и за ним не находилось ни оплошности, ни вины.

5 T hen said these men, We shall not find any pretext against this Daniel, unless we find against him touching the law of his God.

Наконец, эти люди сказали: – Нам не найти предлога для обвинения этого Даниила, разве только в Законе его Бога.

6 T hen these presidents and satraps came in a body to the king, and said thus unto him: King Darius, live for ever!

Тогда сановники и сатрапы пришли все вместе к царю и сказали: – О царь Дарий, живи вечно!

7 A ll the presidents of the kingdom, the prefects, and the satraps, the counsellors, and the governors have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

Все царские сановники, военачальники, сатрапы, советники и наместники согласны в том, что царю следует дать повеление и наложить запрет, чтобы всякого, кто станет в течение следующих тридцати дней молиться иному богу или человеку, кроме тебя, о царь, бросили бы в яму со львами.

8 N ow, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which may not be revoked.

Итак, о царь, издай запрет и подпиши указ, чтобы его нельзя было изменить – по законам мидян и персов, которые не подлежат отмене.

9 T herefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

И царь Дарий подписал указ и запрет. Даниил в яме со львами

10 A nd when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and, his windows being open in his upper chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

Когда Даниил узнал о том, что этот указ подписан, он пошел домой в верхнюю комнату, окна которой открывались в сторону Иерусалима. Три раза в день он опускался на колени и молился, славя своего Бога, как он делал это и прежде.

11 B ut those men came in a body, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

А заговорщики пришли все вместе и нашли Даниила молящимся и просящим милости у Бога.

12 T hen they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king's decree: Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask of any god or man within thirty days, except of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which may not be revoked.

Тогда они пошли к царю и говорили с ним о его царском запрете: – Разве не ты подписал запрет, по которому того, кто в течение следующих тридцати дней будет молиться иному богу или человеку, кроме тебя, о царь, бросили бы в яму со львами? Царь ответил: – Это воистину так, по законам мидян и персов, которые не подлежат отмене.

13 T hen they answered and said before the king, That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.

Тогда они сказали царю: – Даниил, один из иудейских пленников, не слушается ни тебя, о царь, ни запрета, который ты подписал. Он по-прежнему молится три раза в день.

14 T hen the king, when he heard these words, was sore distressed thereby, and set his heart on Daniel to save him; and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

Услышав это, царь был очень расстроен; он решил спасти Даниила и до захода солнца всячески пытался это сделать.

15 T hen these men came in a body unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

Но заговорщики все вместе пришли к царю и сказали ему: – Вспомни, о царь, что по закону мидян и персов никакой запрет или повеление, изданные царем, изменить нельзя.

16 T hen the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast into the den of lions. The king spoke and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will save thee.

Тогда царь отдал приказ, и Даниила привели и бросили в яму со львами. Царь сказал Даниилу: – Пусть твой Бог, Которому ты верно служишь, спасет тебя!

17 A nd a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his nobles, that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

Затем принесли камень и положили его на отверстие ямы, и царь запечатал его своей печатью и печатями приближенных, чтобы ничего из определенного о Данииле не изменилось.

18 T hen the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting; neither were concubines brought before him; and his sleep fled from him.

Потом царь вернулся во дворец и постился весь вечер; он отказался от развлечений, и сон бежал от него.

19 T hen the king arose with the light at break of day, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

При первом свете зари царь встал и поспешил к яме со львами.

20 A nd when he came near unto the den, he cried with a mournful voice unto Daniel: the king spoke and said unto Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, hath thy God whom thou servest continually been able to save thee from the lions?

Приблизившись к яме, он позвал Даниила жалобным голосом: – Даниил, слуга живого Бога, смог ли Бог, Которому ты верно служишь, избавить тебя от львов?

21 T hen Daniel spoke unto the king, O king, live for ever!

Даниил ответил: – О царь, живи вечно!

22 M y God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me; forasmuch as before him innocence was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

Мой Бог послал ангела Своего, и замкнул пасти львов. Они не причинили мне вреда, потому что я оказался безвинным перед Ним. Да и пред тобой, о царь, я никогда не делал никакого зла.

23 T hereupon was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

Царь был чрезвычайно рад за него и приказал вытащить Даниила из ямы. Когда Даниила вытащили из ямы, на нем не оказалось никаких ран, потому что он верил в своего Бога.

24 A nd the king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and broke all their bones in pieces ere they came to the bottom of the den.

По приказу царя обвинителей Даниила привели и бросили в яму со львами, вместе с их детьми и женами. И прежде чем они упали на дно ямы, львы схватили их и разгрызли все их кости.

25 T hen king Darius wrote unto all peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied unto you.

Тогда царь Дарий написал ко всем народам, племенам и людям всякого языка, живущим по всей земле: «Да умножится ваше благополучие!

26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for he is the living God, and steadfast for ever, and his kingdom which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

Я издаю указ, чтобы в каждой части моего царства люди трепетали перед Богом Даниила и боялись Его. Ведь Он – Бог живой, вечно сущий; царство Его не погибнет, и власти Его не будет конца.

27 H e saveth and delivereth, and he worketh signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth: who hath saved Daniel from the power of the lions.

Он избавляет и спасает; творит знамения и чудеса на небесах и на земле. Он избавил Даниила от силы львов».

28 A nd this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

И Даниил преуспевал во времена царствования Дария и в царствование Кира Персидского.
