1 N ow when these things were completed, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, according to their abominations, of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites;

После того как все это было сделано, вожди пришли ко мне и сказали: – Народ Израиля, священники и левиты не отделились от иноплеменных народов: хананеев, хеттов, ферезеев, иевусеев, аммонитян, моавитян, египтян и аморреев с их отвратительными обычаями.

2 f or they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, and have mingled the holy seed with the peoples of the lands; and the hand of the princes and rulers has been chief in this unfaithfulness.

Они брали их дочерей в жены для себя и своих сыновей, и святой народ смешался с иноплеменными народами. А вожди и чиновники первыми подавали пример этого предательства.

3 A nd when I heard this thing, I rent my mantle and my garment, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down overwhelmed.

Услышав это, я разорвал на себе одежду и накидку, стал рвать свои волосы и бороду и сел, пораженный ужасом.

4 T hen were assembled to me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the unfaithfulness of those that had been carried away; and I sat overwhelmed until the evening oblation.

Все, кто благоговел пред словами Бога Израиля, собрались вокруг меня из-за этого предательства переселенцев. А я сидел там, пораженный ужасом, до вечерней жертвы. Молитва Ездры

5 A nd at the evening oblation I arose up from my humiliation; and with my mantle and my garment rent, I fell on my knees, and spread out my hands to Jehovah my God,

Во время вечерней жертвы я поднялся с места своего самоуничижения в разорванной одежде и накидке, пал на колени, простирая руки к Господу, моему Богу,

6 a nd said: O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God; for our iniquities are increased over head, and our trespass is grown up to the heavens.

и стал молиться: – Боже мой, мне так стыдно, так совестно, что я не могу поднять к Тебе лица, ведь наши грехи выше наших голов, а вина наша достигла небес.

7 S ince the days of our fathers, we have been in great trespass to this day; and for our iniquities we, our kings, our priests, have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, and to captivity, and to spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

Со дней наших отцов и до этого дня наша вина велика. Из-за наших грехов нас и наших царей и священники постигли меч и плен, грабеж и унижения от рук иноземных царей, как это есть и по сегодняшний день.

8 A nd now for a little space there hath been favour from Jehovah our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

Но сегодня – на миг – Господь, наш Бог, смилостивился над нами. Он оставил в живых некоторых из нас и дал нам утвердиться в Своем святилище. Он просветил наши глаза и облегчил наше рабство.

9 F or we are bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us before the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God and to repair the ruins thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

Мы рабы, но наш Бог не оставил нас и в нашем рабстве. Он проявил к нам милость перед царями Персии: Он даровал нам новую жизнь, чтобы мы отстроили дом нашего Бога и восстановили его из руин, и дал нам защитную стену в Иудее и Иерусалиме.

10 A nd now, what shall we say, our God, after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,

Но ныне, Боже наш, что нам сказать после этого? Ведь мы пренебрегли заповедями,

11 w hich thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess, is an unclean land through the filthiness of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations with which they have filled it from one end to another through their uncleanness.

которые Ты дал через Твоих слуг пророков, когда Ты сказал: «Земля, в которую вы входите, чтобы завладеть ею, это земля, оскверненная мерзостями ее народов. Своими отвратительными обычаями они наполнили ее нечистотой от края до края.

12 N ow therefore give not your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters to your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity for ever; that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.

Поэтому не отдавайте своих дочерей замуж за их сыновей и не берите их дочерей своим сыновьям. Никогда не ищите с ними мирного договора, чтобы вам быть сильными и есть блага земли, и оставить ее вашим детям как вечное наследие».

13 A nd after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities, and hast given us such deliverance as this,

После всего, что случилось с нами за наши злые дела и великую вину, Ты, Боже наш, наказал нас мягче, чем заслуживали наши грехи, и оставил в живых некоторых из нас.

14 s hould we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the peoples of these abominations? wouldest thou not be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor any to escape?

Неужели мы опять нарушим Твои повеления и будем вступать в родство с народами, которые преданы этим отвратительным обычаям? Разве Ты не прогневаешься на нас так, чтобы истребить нас, не оставив ни одного уцелевшего?

15 J ehovah, God of Israel, thou art righteous; for we are a remnant that is escaped, as this day. Behold, we are before thee in our trespasses; for there is no standing before thee because of this.

Господи, Боже Израиля, Ты праведен! Сегодня остались мы – уцелевшие. Вот мы перед Тобой в нашей вине, хотя из-за нее ни один из нас не может устоять в Твоем присутствии.
