1 A nd this is what the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, allotted for inheritance to them:

2 t heir inheritance was by lot, as Jehovah had commanded by Moses, for the nine tribes, and the half tribe.

Их уделы были определены по жребию девяти с половиной родам, как повелел Господь через Моисея.

3 F or Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half tribe beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he had given no inheritance among them.

Моисей дал двум с половиной родам уделы к востоку от Иордана, но не дал между остальными удела роду Левия,

4 F or the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and they gave no part to the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, and their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.

потому что от сыновей Иосифа произошли два рода – Манассия и Ефрем. Левиты не получили земельного надела, а только города, чтобы жить в них, с пастбищами для своих отар и стад.

5 A s Jehovah had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

И израильтяне разделили землю, как повелел Моисею Господь. Хеврон отдан Халеву

6 T hen the children of Judah came near to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, Thou knowest the word that Jehovah spoke to Moses the man of God, concerning me and thee, in Kadesh-barnea.

Люди из рода Иуды пришли к Иисусу в Гилгал, и Халев, сын кенезита Иефоннии, сказал ему: – Ты знаешь, что Господь сказал Моисею, Божьему человеку, в Кадеш-Барнеа обо мне и о тебе.

7 F orty years old was I when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to search out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.

Мне было сорок лет, когда Моисей, слуга Господа, послал меня из Кадеш-Барнеа разведать землю. Я вернулся к нему с правдивыми вестями,

8 A nd my brethren that had gone up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Jehovah my God.

но мои братья, которые ходили со мной, заставили народ пасть духом, а я от всего сердца следовал Господу, моему Богу.

9 A nd Moses swore on that day, saying, The land whereon thy feet have trodden shall assuredly be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever! for thou hast wholly followed Jehovah my God.

И Моисей поклялся мне в тот день: «Земля, по которой ступали твои ноги, будет уделом тебе и твоим детям навеки, потому что ты от всего сердца следовал Господу, моему Богу».

10 A nd now behold, Jehovah has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years, since Jehovah spoke this word to Moses, when Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.

И вот, как Господь и обещал, Он сохранял меня в живых сорок пять лет с того времени, как Он сказал это Моисею, когда Израиль скитался в пустыне. Мне теперь восемьдесят пять лет,

11 I am still this day strong, as in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out and to come in.

и я все еще так же крепок, как в тот день, когда меня посылал Моисей; у меня столько же сил для битвы, сколько было тогда.

12 A nd now give me this mountain, of which Jehovah spoke in that day; for thou heardest in that day that Anakim are there, and great fortified cities. If so be Jehovah shall be with me, then I shall dispossess them, as Jehovah said.

Итак, дай мне эти нагорья, о которых говорил в тот день Господь. Ты сам тогда слышал, что там были анакиты, и города у них большие и укрепленные; может быть, Господь будет со мной, и я прогоню их, как Господь и сказал.

13 A nd Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

И Иисус благословил Халева, сына Иефонниина, и дал ему в удел Хеврон.

14 H ebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed Jehovah the God of Israel.

Так с тех пор Хеврон стал уделом Халева, сына кенезеянина Иефоннии, потому что он от всего сердца следовал Господу, Богу Израиля.

15 N ow the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-Arba; the great man among the Anakim. And the land rested from war.

(Прежде Хеврон назывался Кирьят-Арба; этот Арба был самым великим человеком среди анакитов.) И земля успокоилась от войны.
