1 T he king's heart in the hand of Jehovah is brooks of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Как поток воды, сердце царя в руке Господней: куда Он захочет, туда его и направит.

2 E very way of a man is right in his own eyes; but Jehovah weigheth the hearts.

Все пути человека пред глазами его прямы, но Господь испытывает сердца.

3 T o exercise justice and judgment is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrifice.

Кто поступает праведно и справедливо – угодней Господу, нежели жертва.

4 L ofty eyes, and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

Надменный взгляд и гордое сердце – как светильник для нечестивого, но это грех.

5 T he thoughts of the diligent only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty, only to want.

Замыслы прилежного принесут изобилие, а всякий торопливый лишь обнищает.

6 T he getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting breath of them that seek death.

Состояние, нажитое лживым языком, – это тающий пар ищущих смерти.

7 T he devastation of the wicked sweepeth them away, because they refuse to do what is right.

Жестокость злодеев их же и погубит, ведь они отказываются поступать справедливо.

8 V ery crooked is the way of a guilty man; but as for the pure, his work is upright.

Путь преступных извилист, а поступки невинных чисты.

9 I t is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman, and a house in common.

Лучше жить на углу крыши, чем делить дом со сварливой женой.

10 T he soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.

Нечестивый желает зла, милости ближний у него не найдет.

11 W hen the scorner is punished, the simple becometh wise; and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

Когда наказан глумливый, простаки становятся мудрее; когда наставлен мудрец, он обретает знание.

12 O ne that is righteous wisely considereth the house of the wicked: he overthroweth the wicked to ruin.

Праведник примечает дом нечестивца и насылает на нечестивца гибель.

13 W hoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also himself shall cry, and shall not be heard.

Если кто затыкает уши от крика бедных, то он однажды сам будет кричать, и его не услышат.

14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger; and a present in the bosom, vehement fury.

Тайный подарок предотвращает гнев, и взятка, скрытая под плащом, – лютую ярость.

15 I t is joy to a righteous to do what is right; but it is ruin for the workers of iniquity.

Радость праведным, когда вершат правосудие, но ужас злодеям.

16 T he man that wandereth out of the way of wisdom shall abide in the congregation of the dead.

Тот, кто сошел с пути разума, упокоится в обществе мертвецов.

17 H e that loveth mirth shall be a poor man; he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

Любящий развлечения обеднеет, любящий вино и дорогие мази не разбогатеет.

18 T he wicked is a ransom for the righteous, and a treacherous in the stead of the upright.

Нечестивым праведника выкупают, а вероломным – верного.

19 I t is better to dwell in a desert land. than with a contentious and irritable woman.

Лучше жить в пустыне, чем со сварливой и злобной женой.

20 T here is costly store and oil in the dwelling of a wise; but a foolish man swalloweth it up.

Дорогое добро и масло остается в доме у мудрого, а глупец его проедает.

21 H e that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

Стремящийся к праведности и любви найдет и жизнь, и праведность, и славу.

22 A wise scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

Один мудрец может покорить город, полный воинов, и низвергнуть крепость, на которую они полагались.

23 W hoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

Сторожащий уста свои и язык хранит себя от беды.

24 P roud, arrogant, scorner is his name who dealeth in proud wrath.

Гордец надменный, «глумливый» – имя ему; он действует в чрезмерной гордыне.

25 T he desire of the sluggard killeth him; for his hands refuse to work:

Желания ленивца его умертвят, так как руки его отказываются трудиться.

26 H e coveteth greedily all the day long; but the righteous giveth and spareth not.

День напролет он жаждет и желает, а праведный дает не жалея.

27 T he sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more when they bring it with a wicked purpose!

Жертва злодеев – мерзость, тем паче, когда приносится со злым умыслом.

28 A lying witness shall perish; and a man that heareth shall speak constantly.

Лживый свидетель погибнет, свидетельство того, кто все слышал, устоит.

29 A wicked man hardeneth his face; but as for the upright, he establisheth his way.

Нечестивый делает уверенное лицо, а праведный обдумывает свой путь.

30 T here is no wisdom, nor understanding, nor counsel against Jehovah.

Нет ни мудрости, ни разума, ни замысла, что имели бы успех против Господа.

31 T he horse is prepared for the day of battle; but safety is of Jehovah.

Коня готовят на день сражения, а победу дает Господь.
