1 E L hombre que reprendido endurece la cerviz, De repente será quebrantado; ni habrá para él medicina.

A man who does not listen after many strong words are spoken to him will be destroyed all at once and without help.

2 C uando los justos dominan, el pueblo se alegra: Mas cuando domina el impío, el pueblo gime.

When those who are right with God rule, the people are glad, but when a sinful man rules, the people have sorrow.

3 E l hombre que ama la sabiduría, alegra á su padre: Mas el que mantiene rameras, perderá la hacienda.

A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad, but he who goes with women who sell the use of their bodies wastes his money.

4 E l rey con el juicio afirma la tierra: Mas el hombre de presentes la destruirá.

The king makes the land strong by doing what is right and fair, but the one who takes pay for doing wrong, destroys it.

5 E l hombre que lisonjea á su prójimo, Red tiende delante de sus pasos.

A man who gives his neighbor sweet-sounding words that are not true spreads a net for his own feet.

6 E n la prevaricación del hombre malo hay lazo: Mas el justo cantará y se alegrará.

A sinful man is trapped by his sins, but a man who is right with God sings for joy.

7 C onoce el justo la causa de los pobres: Mas el impío no entiende sabiduría.

The man who is right with God cares about the rights of poor people, but the sinful man does not understand such things.

8 L os hombres escarnecedores enlazan la ciudad: Mas los sabios apartan la ira.

Men who speak against others set a city on fire, but wise men turn away anger.

9 S i el hombre sabio contendiere con el necio, Que se enoje ó que se ría, no tendrá reposo.

When a wise man argues with a foolish man, the fool only gets angry or laughs, and there is no peace and quiet.

10 L os hombres sanguinarios aborrecen al perfecto: Mas los rectos buscan su contentamiento.

Men who kill hate him without blame, but a good man cares for his life.

11 E l necio da suelta á todo su espíritu; Mas el sabio al fin le sosiega.

A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man keeps quiet.

12 D el señor que escucha la palabra mentirosa, Todos sus ministros son impíos.

If a ruler listens to lies, all who work for him will become sinful.

13 E l pobre y el usurero se encontraron: Jehová alumbra los ojos de ambos.

The Lord gives light to the eyes of both the poor man and the man who makes it hard for others.

14 E l rey que juzga con verdad á los pobres, Su trono será firme para siempre.

If the king is fair as he judges the poor, his throne will stand forever.

15 L a vara y la corrección dan sabiduría: Mas el muchacho consentido avergonzará á su madre.

The stick and strong words give wisdom, but a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.

16 C uando los impíos son muchos, mucha es la prevaricación; Mas los justos verán la ruina de ellos.

When the sinful are many, sins become many, but those who are right with God will see their fall.

17 C orrige á tu hijo, y te dará descanso, Y dará deleite á tu alma.

Punish your son when he does wrong and he will give you comfort. Yes, he will give joy to your soul.

18 S in profecía el pueblo será disipado: Mas el que guarda la ley, bienaventurado él.

Where there is no understanding of the Word of the Lord, the people do whatever they want to, but happy is he who keeps the law.

19 E l siervo no se corregirá con palabras: Porque entiende, mas no corresponde.

A servant will not be taught by words alone. For even if he understands, he will not answer.

20 ¿ Has visto hombre ligero en sus palabras? Más esperanza hay del necio que de él.

Do you see a man who is quick with his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

21 E l que regala á su siervo desde su niñez, A la postre será su hijo:

He who gives good care to his servant from the time he is young, will in the end find him to be a son.

22 E l hombre iracundo levanta contiendas; Y el furioso muchas veces peca.

A man of anger starts fights, and a man with a bad temper is full of wrong-doing.

23 L a soberbia del hombre le abate; Pero al humilde de espíritu sustenta la honra.

A man’s pride will bring him down, but he whose spirit is without pride will receive honor.

24 E l aparcero del ladrón aborrece su vida; Oirá maldiciones, y no lo denunciará.

He who works with a robber hates his own life. He knows about the bad that will come, but can tell nothing.

25 E l temor del hombre pondrá lazo: Mas el que confía en Jehová será levantado.

The fear of man brings a trap, but he who trusts in the Lord will be honored.

26 M uchos buscan el favor del príncipe: Mas de Jehová viene el juicio de cada uno.

Many look for the ruler’s favor, but what is right and fair comes from the Lord.

27 A bominación es á los justos el hombre inicuo; Y abominación es al impío el de rectos caminos.

A sinful man is a shame to those who are right with God, and he who is right with God is a shame to the sinful.
