1 Y LOS hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad tenían una muy grande muchedumbre de ganado; los cuales viendo la tierra de Jazer y de Galaad, parecióles el país lugar de ganado.

Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had very many cattle. And they saw that the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead was a good place for cattle.

2 Y vinieron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, y hablaron á Moisés, y á Eleazar el sacerdote, y á los príncipes de la congregación, diciendo:

So the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and said to Moses and Eleazar the religious leader and the leaders of the people,

3 A taroth, y Dibón, y Jazer, y Nimra, y Hesbón, y Eleale, y Sabán, y Nebo, y Beón,

“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo and Beon,

4 L a tierra que Jehová hirió delante de la congregación de Israel, es tierra de ganado, y tus siervos tienen ganado.

the land which the Lord won in battle in front of the people of Israel, is a land for cattle and your servants have cattle.”

5 P or tanto, dijeron, si hallamos gracia en tus ojos, dése esta tierra á tus siervos en heredad, y no nos hagas pasar el Jordán.

And they said, “If we have found favor in your eyes, let this land be given to your servants as our own. Do not take us to the other side of the Jordan.”

6 Y respondió Moisés á los hijos de Gad y á los hijos de Rubén: ¿Vendrán vuestros hermanos á la guerra, y vosotros os quedaréis aquí?

But Moses said to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, “Should your brothers go to war while you sit here?

7 ¿ Y por qué prevenís el ánimo de los hijos de Israel, para que no pasen á la tierra que les ha dado Jehová?

Why do you take from the people of Israel the desire to cross over into the land the Lord has given them?

8 A sí hicieron vuestros padres, cuando los envié desde Cades-barnea para que viesen la tierra.

This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.

9 Q ue subieron hasta la arroyada de Escol, y después que vieron la tierra, preocuparon el ánimo de los hijos de Israel, para que no viniesen á la tierra que Jehová les había dado.

They went up to the valley of Eshcol and saw the land. Then they took the desire away from the people of Israel so that they did not go into the land the Lord had given them.

10 Y el furor de Jehová se encendió entonces, y juró diciendo:

So the Lord’s anger burned on that day, and He swore, saying

11 Q ue no verán los varones que subieron de Egipto de veinte años arriba, la tierra por la cual juré á Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob, por cuanto no fueron perfectos en pos de mí;

‘None of the men who came up from Egypt, twenty years old and older, will see the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For they did not follow Me with all their heart.

12 E xcepto Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, y Josué hijo de Nun, que fueron perfectos en pos de Jehová.

Only Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun will see it. For they have followed the Lord with all their hearts.’

13 Y el furor de Jehová se encendió en Israel, é hízolos andar errantes cuarenta años por el desierto, hasta que fué acabada toda aquella generación, que había hecho mal delante de Jehová.

So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel. He made them travel in the desert forty years, until all the people of that day who had sinned in the eyes of the Lord were destroyed.

14 Y he aquí vosotros habéis sucedido en lugar de vuestros padres, prole de hombres pecadores, para añadir aún á la ira de Jehová contra Israel.

Now see, you have grown up in your fathers’ place, children of sinful men. You add still more to the burning anger of the Lord against Israel.

15 S i os volviereis de en pos de él, él volverá otra vez á dejaros en el desierto, y destruiréis á todo este pueblo.

For if you turn away from following Him, He will leave them in the desert again and you will destroy all these people.”

16 E ntonces ellos se allegaron á él y dijeron: Edificaremos aquí majadas para nuestro ganado, y ciudades para nuestros niños;

Then they came near him and said, “We will build safe places for our flocks here, and cities for our little ones.

17 Y nosotros nos armaremos, é iremos con diligencia delante de los hijos de Israel, hasta que los metamos en su lugar: y nuestros niños quedarán en ciudades fuertes á causa de los moradores del país.

But we will be ready for battle and will go with the people of Israel until we have brought them to their place. Our little ones will live within the walls of the cities because of the people who live in the land.

18 N o volveremos á nuestras casas hasta que los hijos de Israel posean cada uno su heredad.

We will not return to our homes until every one of the people of Israel has received his land.

19 P orque no tomaremos heredad con ellos al otro lado del Jordán ni adelante, por cuanto tendremos ya nuestra heredad de estotra parte del Jordán al oriente.

For we will not have any land among them on the other side of the Jordan. Our land has come to us on this side of the Jordan toward the east.”

20 E ntonces les respondió Moisés: Si lo hiciereis así, si os apercibiereis para ir delante de Jehová á la guerra,

So Moses said to them, “Do as you say. Get ready for war before the Lord.

21 Y pasareis todos vosotros armados el Jordán delante de Jehová, hasta que haya echado á sus enemigos de delante de sí,

All of you men of war cross over the Jordan before the Lord until He has driven away those who fight against Him,

22 Y sea el país sojuzgado delante de Jehová; luego volveréis, y seréis libres de culpa para con Jehová, y para con Israel; y esta tierra será vuestra en heredad delante de Jehová.

and has won the land in battle. Then after this you may return because you have done your duty to the Lord and to Israel. This land will be your land before the Lord.

23 M as si así no lo hiciereis, he aquí habréis pecado á Jehová; y sabed que os alcanzará vuestro pecado.

But if you do not do as you say, you have sinned against the Lord. And for sure you will be punished for your sin.

24 E dificaos ciudades para vuestros niños, y majadas para vuestras ovejas, y haced lo que ha salido de vuestra boca.

Build cities for your little ones and places for your sheep. Then do what you have promised.”

25 Y hablaron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén á Moisés, diciendo: Tus siervos harán como mi señor ha mandado.

The sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben said to Moses, “Your servants will do just as my lord says.

26 N uestros niños, nuestras mujeres, nuestros ganados, y todas nuestras bestias, estarán ahí en las ciudades de Galaad;

Our little ones, our wives, our flocks and all our cattle will stay there in the cities of Gilead.

27 Y tus siervos, armados todos de guerra, pasarán delante de Jehová á la guerra, de la manera que mi señor dice.

But your servants, everyone who is ready for war, will cross over before the Lord to battle, just as my lord says.”

28 E ntonces los encomendó Moisés á Eleazar el sacerdote, y á Josué hijo de Nun, y á los príncipes de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.

So Moses gave news about them to Eleazar the religious leader, Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the families of the people of Israel.

29 Y díjoles Moisés: Si los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, pasaren con vosotros el Jordán, armados todos de guerra delante de Jehová, luego que el país fuere sojuzgado delante de vosotros, les daréis la tierra de Galaad en posesión:

Moses said to them, “The sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, every man ready for battle, are to cross with you over the Jordan before the Lord, and the land will be won. After this, you must give them the land of Gilead for their own.

30 M as si no pasaren armados con vosotros, entonces tendrán posesión entre vosotros en la tierra de Canaán.

But if they will not cross over with you ready for battle, their land must be among you in the land of Canaan.”

31 Y los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén respondieron, diciendo: Haremos lo que Jehová ha dicho á tus siervos.

The sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, “We will do as the Lord has said to your servants.

32 N osotros pasaremos armados delante de Jehová á la tierra de Canaán, y la posesión de nuestra heredad será de esta parte del Jordán.

We will cross over into the land of Canaan ready for battle before the Lord. And the land on this side of the Jordan will be ours.”

33 A sí les dió Moisés á los hijos de Gad y á los hijos de Rubén, y á la media tribu de Manasés hijo de José, el reino de Sehón rey Amorrheo, y el reino de Og rey de Basán, la tierra con sus ciudades y términos, las ciudades del país alrededor.

So Moses gave the nations of Sihon king of the Amorites and Og king of Bashan to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben and the half-family group of Joseph’s son Manasseh. He gave them the land, with its cities and the country around them.

34 Y los hijos de Gad edificaron á Dibón, y á Ataroth, y á Aroer,

Then the sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,

35 Y á Atroth-sophan, y á Jazer, y á Jogbaa,

Atrothshophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,

36 Y á Beth-nimra, y á Betharán: ciudades fuertes, y también majadas para ovejas.

Bethnimrah and Beth-haran, cities with walls around them. And they made safe places for their sheep.

37 Y los hijos de Rubén edificaron á Hesbón, y á Eleale, y á Kiriathaim,

The sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,

38 Y á Nebo, y á Baal-meón, (mudados los nombres), y á Sibma: y pusieron nombres á las ciudades que edificaron.

Nebo and Baal-meon (their names to be changed), and Sibmah. And they gave other names to the cities they built.

39 Y los hijos de Machîr hijo de Manasés fueron á Galaad, y tomáronla, y echaron al Amorrheo que estaba en ella.

The sons of Manasseh’s son Machir went to Gilead and took it. They drove away the Amorites who were in it.

40 Y Moisés dió Galaad á Machîr hijo de Manasés, el cual habitó en ella.

So Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he lived in it.

41 T ambién Jair hijo de Manasés fué y tomó sus aldeas, y púsoles por nombre Havoth-jair.

Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its towns, and called them Havvoth-jair.

42 A simismo Noba fué y tomó á Kenath y sus aldeas, y llamóle Noba, conforme á su nombre.

Nobah went and took Kenath and its towns, and called it Nobah after his own name.
