1 O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

«Salmo di Davide. Per ricordare» O Eterno, non sgridarmi nella tua indignazione, e non punirmi nella tua ira.

2 F or thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

Poiché le tue frecce mi hanno trafitto, e la tua mano mi schiaccia.

3 T here is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

Non c'è nulla di sano nella mia carne, a causa della tua ira; non c'è requie alcuna nelle mie ossa, a causa del mio peccato.

4 F or mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

Le mie iniquità infatti superano il mio capo; sono come un grave carico, troppo pesante per me.

5 M y wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

Le mie piaghe sono fetide e purulenti per la mia follia.

6 I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

Sono tutto ricurvo e abbattuto, vado in giro tutto il giorno facendo cordoglio,

7 F or my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

perché i miei lombi sono pieni d'infiammazione, e non vi è nulla di sano nella mia carne.

8 I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

Sono sfinito e contuso; ruggisco per il fremito del mio cuore.

9 L ord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

O Signore, ogni mio desiderio è davanti a te, e i miei sospiri non ti sono nascosti.

10 M y heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

Il mio cuore palpita, la mia forza mi lascia; la luce stessa dei miei occhi se n'è andata.

11 M y lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

I miei amici e i miei compagni stanno lontani dalla mia piaga, e i miei vicini si fermano a distanza.

12 T hey also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

Quelli che cercano la mia vita mi tendono lacci, e quelli che cercano di farmi del male parlano di rovina e meditano inganni tutto il giorno.

13 B ut I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

Ma io sono come un sordo che non ode e come un muto che non apre bocca.

14 T hus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

Sí, sono come un uomo che non sente, e che non può rispondere con la sua bocca.

15 F or in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

Poiché spero in te, o Eterno, tu risponderai, o Signore, DIO mio.

16 F or I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

Poiché ho detto: «Non si rallegrino di me, e quando il mio piede vacilla, non s'innalzino contro di me».

17 F or I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

Mentre sono sul punto di cadere e il mio dolore è continuamente davanti a me,

18 F or I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

mentre confesso il mio peccato e sono angosciato per la mia colpa,

19 B ut mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

i miei nemici sono pieni di vita e sono forti, e quelli che mi odiano senza motivo si moltiplicano.

20 T hey also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

Anche quelli che mi rendono male per bene mi perseguitano, perché seguo il bene.

21 F orsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

O Eterno, non abbandonarmi, DIO mio, non allontanarti da me.

22 M ake haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

Affrettati in mio aiuto, o Signore, mia salvezza,
