2 D eliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

Liberami dagli operatori d'iniquità, e salvami dagli uomini sanguinari.

3 F or, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Lord.

Perché, ecco, essi mi tendono agguati uomini potenti si radunano contro di me senza che vi sia, o Eterno, colpa o peccato da parte mia.

4 T hey run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.

Benché non vi sia alcun fallo in me essi corrono e si preparano; destati per venirmi in aiuto e vedi.

5 T hou therefore, O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.

Perciò tu, o Eterno, DIO degli eserciti, DIO d'Israele, risvegliati per punire tutte le nazioni; non fare grazia ad alcuno di quelli che operano perfidamente. (Sela)

6 T hey return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

Essi ritornano alla sera, ululano come cani e si aggirano per la città.

7 B ehold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?

Ecco, vomitano insulti dalla loro bocca; hanno delle spade sulle loro labbra e dicono: «Chi ci ascolta?».

8 B ut thou, O Lord, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

Ma tu, o Eterno, riderai di loro; ti farai beffe di tutte le nazioni.

9 B ecause of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.

O mia forza, a te guarderò, perché DIO è la mia fortezza.

10 T he God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.

Il mio DIO di misericordia mi verrà incontro; DIO mi farà vedere sui miei nemici quel che desidero.

11 S lay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

Non ucciderli, perché il mio popolo non dimentichi; per la tua potenza falli andare vagando e abbattili, o Eterno, nostro scudo.

12 F or the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

Per il peccato della loro bocca e per le parole delle loro labbra siano presi nel laccio del loro orgoglio, a motivo delle maledizioni e menzogne che proferiscono.

13 C onsume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

Annientali nella tua ira, annientali e non siano piú; e sappiano che DIO regna in Giacobbe e fino ai confini della terra. (Sela)

14 A nd at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

Alla sera essi ritornano, ululano come cani e si aggirano per la città.

15 L et them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.

Vagano in cerca di cibo e, se non trovano da sfamarsi, passano la notte lamentandosi.

16 B ut I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

Ma io celebrerò la tua potenza e al mattino loderò ad alta voce la tua benignità, perché tu sei stato per me una fortezza e un rifugio nel giorno dell'avversità.

17 U nto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.

O mia forza, a te io canterò le lodi, perché tu, o DIO, sei la mia fortezza, il DIO che mi usa misericordia.
