1 A nd it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

Or avvenne che anche a Iconio essi entrarono nella sinagoga dei Giudei e parlarono in modo tale che una grande folla di Giudei e di Greci credette,

2 B ut the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

ma i Giudei increduli sollevarono e inasprirono gli animi dei gentili contro i fratelli.

3 L ong time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

Essi dunque rimasero là molto tempo, parlando francamente nel Signore, il quale rendeva testimonianza alla parola della sua grazia, concedendo che segni e prodigi si operassero per mano loro.

4 B ut the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

Or la popolazione della città fu divisa: gli uni parteggiavano per i Giudei e gli altri per gli apostoli.

5 A nd when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

Ma quando ci fu un tentativo dei gentili e dei Giudei con i loro capi di maltrattare gli apostoli e lapidarli,

6 T hey were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

essi lo vennero a sapere e fuggirono nelle città della Licaonia, a Listra. a Derbe, e nella regione circostante

7 A nd there they preached the gospel.

e là continuarono ad evangelizzare.

8 A nd there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:

Or a Listra c'era un uomo paralizzato ai piedi, che stava sempre seduto e non aveva mai camminato, essendo storpio sin dal grembo di sua madre.

9 T he same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

Costui udí parlare Paolo che, fissati gli occhi su di lui, e vedendo che egli aveva fede per essere guarito,

10 S aid with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

disse ad alta voce: «Alzati in piedi». Ed egli saltò su e si mise a camminare.

11 A nd when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

Quando la folla vide ciò che Paolo aveva fatto, alzò la voce, dicendo in lingua licaonica: «Gli dèi sono discesi fino a noi, in forma umana».

12 A nd they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

E chiamavano Barnaba Giove, Paolo Mercurio, perché era lui che parlava di piú.

13 T hen the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

Or il sacerdote di Giove, il cui tempio era all'ingresso della loro città, condusse dei tori con ghirlande alle porte e voleva offrire un sacrificio assieme alla folla.

14 W hich when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

Ma gli apostoli Barnaba e Paolo, udito ciò, si stracciarono le vesti e si precipitarono in mezzo alla folla, gridando e dicendo:

15 A nd saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

«Uomini, perché fate queste cose? Anche noi siamo esseri umani con la vostra stessa natura e vi annunziamo la buona novella, affinché da queste cose vane vi convertiate al Dio vivente cheha fatto il cielo, la terra, il mare e tutte le cose che sono in essi.

16 W ho in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

Nelle generazioni passate egli ha lasciato che tutte le nazioni seguissero le loro strade;

17 N evertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

ma non ha lasciato se stesso senza testimonianza, facendo del bene, dandoci dal cielo piogge e stagioni fruttifere e riempiendo i nostri cuori di cibo e di gioia».

18 A nd with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

Dicendo queste cose, riuscirono a stento a trattenere le folle dall'offrire loro un sacrificio.

19 A nd there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

Or sopraggiunsero certi Giudei da Antiochia e da Iconio; essi, dopo aver persuaso la folla, lapidarono Paolo e, pensando che fosse morto, lo trascinarono fuori della città.

20 H owbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

Ma, essendosi i discepoli radunati intorno a lui, egli si alzò ed entrò in città; e il giorno seguente partí con Barnaba alla volta di Derbe.

21 A nd when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

E, dopo aver evangelizzato quella città e fatto molti discepoli, se ne ritornarono a Listra, a Iconio e ad Antiochia,

22 C onfirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

confermando gli animi dei discepoli e esortandoli a perseverare nella fede, e dicendo che attraverso molte afflizioni dobbiamo entrare nel regno di Dio.

23 A nd when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

E dopo aver designato per loro degli anziani in ciascuna chiesa, avendo pregato e digiunato, li raccomandarono al Signore nel quale avevano creduto.

24 A nd after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

Attraversata poi la Pisidia, vennero nella Panfilia.

25 A nd when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

E, dopo aver annunziata la parola a Perge, scesero ad Attalia.

26 A nd thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

Poi di là salparono per Antiochia da dove erano stati raccomandati alla grazia di Dio per l'opera che avevano appena compiuta.

27 A nd when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

Giunti là, radunarono la chiesa e riferirono quante grandi cose Dio aveva compiuto per mezzo loro e come egli aveva aperto ai gentili la porta della fede.

28 A nd there they abode long time with the disciples.

E rimasero qui con i discepoli per parecchio tempo.
