1 T hen Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion.

Allora Salomone radunò alla sua presenza a Gerusalemme gli anziani d'Israele e tutti i capi delle tribú, i principi delle famiglie dei figli d'Israele per portare su l'arca del patto dell'Eterno dalla città di Davide, cioè da Sion.

2 A nd all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.

3 A nd all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.

Cosí tutti gli anziani d'Israele vennero e i sacerdoti presero l'arca;

4 A nd they brought up the ark of the Lord, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, even those did the priests and the Levites bring up.

e portarono su l'arca dell'Eterno, la tenda di convegno e tutti gli utensili sacri che erano nella tenda. I sacerdoti e i Leviti trasportarono queste cose.

5 A nd king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude.

Il re Salomone e tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, radunata attorno a lui, si raccolsero con lui davanti all'arca e immolarono una tale quantità di pecore e buoi che non si potevano né contare né calcolare.

6 A nd the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims.

Poi i sacerdoti portarono l'arca del patto dell'Eterno al suo posto, nel santuario del tempio, nel luogo santissimo sotto le ali dei cherubini.

7 F or the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.

I cherubini infatti stendevano le loro ali sopra il luogo dell'arca e coprivano dall'alto l'arca e le sue stanghe.

8 A nd they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.

Le stanghe erano cosí lunghe che le loro estremità si vedevano dal luogo santo, davanti al santuario, ma non si vedevano dal di fuori. Esse sono rimaste là fino al giorno d'oggi.

9 T here was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

Nell'arca non c'era nient'altro che le due tavole di pietra che Mosè vi aveva deposto al monte Horeb, quando l'Eterno fece un patto con i figli d'Israele, dopo che questi erano usciti dal paese d'Egitto.

10 A nd it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord,

Or avvenne che, mentre i sacerdoti uscivano dal luogo santo, la nuvola riempí la casa dell'Eterno,

11 S o that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.

e i sacerdoti non poterono rimanere a servire a motivo della nuvola, perché la gloria dell'Eterno riempiva la casa dell'Eterno.

12 T hen spake Solomon, The Lord said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

Allora Salomone disse: «L'Eterno ha dichiarato che abiterebbe nella densa nuvola,

13 I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever.

Io ho costruito per te una casa sontuosa, un luogo nel quale tu dimorerai per sempre».

14 A nd the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;)

Poi il re si voltò e benedisse tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, mentre tutta l'assemblea d'Israele stava in piedi.

15 A nd he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,

E disse: «Benedetto sia l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, che ha promesso con la sua propria bocca a mio padre Davide, e l'ha adempiuto con la sua potenza, dicendo:

16 S ince the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

"Dal giorno in cui feci uscire il mio popolo Israele dall'Egitto, io non ho scelto alcuna città fra tutte le tribú d'Israele, per edificare una casa, dove il mio nome dimorasse, ma ho scelto Davide perché regnasse sul mio popolo d'Israele".

17 A nd it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

Or Davide mio padre aveva in cuore di costruire una casa al nome dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele;

18 A nd the Lord said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart.

ma l'Eterno disse a Davide mio padre: "Tu avevi in cuore di costruire una casa al mio nome, e hai fatto bene ad avere questo in cuore;

19 N evertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name.

ma non sarai tu che costruirai il tempio, sarà invece il figlio che uscirà dai tuoi lombi; sarà lui che costruirà il tempio al mio nome.

20 A nd the Lord hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

Cosí l'Eterno ha adempiuto la parola che aveva pronunciato, e io ho preso il posto di Davide mio padre e mi sono seduto sul trono d'Israele, come l'Eterno aveva detto, e ho costruito il tempio al nome dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele.

21 A nd I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

Là ho preparato un posto per l'arca in cui si trova il patto dell'Eterno che egli fece con i nostri padri, quando li fece uscire dal paese d'Egitto».

22 A nd Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:

Poi Salomone si pose davanti all'altare dell'Eterno di fronte a tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo

23 A nd he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:

e disse: «O Eterno, DIO d'Israele, non c'è alcun DIO simile a te né lassú nel cielo né quaggiú in terra! Tu mantieni il patto e usi misericordia con i tuoi servi che camminano davanti a te con tutto il loro cuore.

24 W ho hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

Tu hai mantenuto nei confronti del tuo servo Davide, mio padre, ciò che gli avevi promesso; sí, oggi hai compiuto con la tua mano ciò che avevi promesso con la tua bocca.

25 T herefore now, Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.

Ora dunque, o Eterno, DIO d'Israele, mantieni al tuo servo Davide mio padre ciò che gli hai promesso, dicendo: "A te non mancherà mai alcuno che sieda davanti a me sul trono d'Israele, purché i tuoi figli veglino sulla loro condotta e camminino davanti a me come hai camminato tu".

26 A nd now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father.

Ora dunque ti prego, o DIO d'Israele, si adempia la parola che hai detto al tuo servo Davide mio padre!

27 B ut will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?

Ma è proprio vero che DIO abita sulla terra? Ecco, i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non possono contenerti; tanto meno questo tempio che io ho costruito!

28 Y et have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day:

Nondimeno, o Eterno, DIO mio, presta attenzione alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplica, ascoltando il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo innalza oggi davanti a te.

29 T hat thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place.

I tuoi occhi siano rivolti notte e giorno verso questo tempio, verso il luogo di cui hai detto: "Lí sarà il mio nome", per ascoltare la preghiera che il tuo servo farà rivolto a questo luogo!.

30 A nd hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive.

Ascolta la supplica del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele quando pregheranno rivolti a questo luogo. Ascolta dal luogo della dimora nei cieli; ascolta e perdona.

31 I f any man trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house:

Se uno pecca contro il suo prossimo e, perché costretto a giurare, viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questo tempio,

32 T hen hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

tu ascolta dal cielo, intervieni e giudica i tuoi servi; condanna il colpevole facendo ricadere sul suo capo la sua condotta e dichiara giusto l'innocente col rendergli secondo la sua giustizia.

33 W hen thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house:

Quando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto davanti al nemico perché ha peccato contro di te, se torna a te e loda il tuo nome, se ti prega e ti supplica in questo tempio,

34 T hen hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.

tu ascolta dal cielo e perdona il peccato del tuo popolo Israele, e fallo tornare nel paese che hai dato ai suoi padri.

35 W hen heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them:

Quando il cielo sarà chiuso e non vi sarà pioggia perché hanno peccato contro di te, se essi pregano rivolti a questo luogo, se lodano il tuo nome e si convertono dal loro peccato perché li hai afflitti,

36 T hen hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.

tu ascolta dal cielo, perdona il peccato dei tuoi servi e del tuo popolo Israele, insegnando loro la buona strada per la quale devono camminare, e manda la pioggia sulla terra che hai dato in eredità al tuo popolo.

37 I f there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, or if there be caterpiller; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be;

Quando nel paese vi sarà carestia o peste, ruggine o carbonchio, invasione di locuste o di bruchi, quando il nemico assedierà il tuo popolo nel paese delle sue città, quando scoppierà una calamità o un'epidemia qualsiasi,

38 W hat prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:

ogni preghiera, ogni supplica che ti sarà rivolta da qualsiasi individuo o dall'intero tuo popolo Israele, quando ciascuno ha riconosciuto la piaga del proprio cuore e ha steso le mani verso questo tempio,

39 T hen hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)

tu ascolta dal cielo, il luogo della tua dimora, e perdona, intervieni e rendi a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta, tu che conosci il cuore di ognuno; (tu solo infatti conosci il cuore di tutti i figli degli uomini),

40 T hat they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

affinché essi ti temano per tutto il tempo che vivranno nel paese che hai dato ai nostri padri.

41 M oreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name's sake;

Anche lo straniero, che non appartiene al tuo popolo Israele, quando verrà da un paese lontano a motivo del tuo nome,

42 ( For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house;

(perchè si sentirà parlare del tuo grande nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio disteso) quando verrà a pregarti rivolto a questo tempio,

43 H ear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.

tu ascolta dal cielo, il luogo della tua dimora, e concedi allo straniero tutto ciò che ti domanda, affinché tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome per temerti, come fa il tuo popolo Israele e sappiano che il tuo nome è invocato su questo tempio che io ho costruito.

44 I f thy people go out to battle against their enemy, whithersoever thou shalt send them, and shall pray unto the Lord toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name:

Quando il tuo popolo uscirà in guerra contro il suo nemico, seguendo la via per cui l'hai mandato, se pregano l'Eterno rivolti verso la città da te scelta e verso il tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome,

45 T hen hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

ascolta dal cielo la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e sostieni la loro causa.

46 I f they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;

Quando peccheranno contro di te (perché non c'è alcun uomo che non pecchi) e tu, adirato contro di loro, li abbandonerai in balìa del nemico e saranno deportati nel paese del nemico lontano o vicino,

47 Y et if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness;

se nel paese in cui sono stati deportati rientrano in sé, se tornano a te e ti supplicano nel paese di quelli che li hanno portati in prigionia e dicono: "Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito iniquamente, abbiamo fatto del male",

48 A nd so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:

se tornano a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima nel paese dei loro nemici che li hanno deportati e ti pregano rivolti al loro paese che tu hai dato ai loro padri, alla città che tu hai scelto e al tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome,

49 T hen hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause,

tu ascolta dal cielo, il luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e sostieni la loro causa,

50 A nd forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them:

e perdona al tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te tutte le trasgressioni che ha commesso contro di te e fa' che trovino compassione presso coloro che li hanno deportati, affinché questi usino misericordia con loro,

51 F or they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron:

(perché essi sono il tuo popolo e la tua eredità, coloro che hai fatto uscire dall'Egitto, da una fornace di ferro).

52 T hat thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.

Siano aperti i tuoi occhi alla supplica del tuo servo e alla supplica del tuo popolo Israele, per esaudirli in tutto ciò che ti chiedono,

53 F or thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord God.

perché tu li hai appartati da tutti i popoli della terra per essere la tua eredità, secondo quanto hai dichiarato per mezzo del tuo servo Mosè, quando facesti uscire dall'Egitto i nostri padri, o Signore, o Eterno!».

54 A nd it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.

Quando Salomone ebbe terminato di rivolgere all'Eterno tutta questa preghiera e supplica, si alzò davanti all'altare dell'Eterno dove era inginocchiato con le mani tese verso il cielo.

55 A nd he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying,

Poi si alzò e benedisse tutta l'assemblea d'Israele ad alta voce, dicendo:

56 B lessed be the Lord, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.

«Benedetto sia l'Eterno, che ha dato riposo al suo popolo Israele, secondo tutto ciò che ha promesso; non una sola parola è venuta meno di tutte le belle promesse da lui fatte per mezzo del suo servo Mosè.

57 T he Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us:

L'Eterno, il nostro DIO, sia con noi come è stato con i nostri padri; non ci lasci e non ci abbandoni,

58 T hat he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers.

ma volga i nostri cuori verso di lui, affinché camminiamo in tutte le sue vie e osserviamo i suoi comandamenti, i suoi statuti e i suoi decreti che ha prescritto ai nostri padri.

59 A nd let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before the Lord, be nigh unto the Lord our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require:

Possano queste mie parole, che ho rivolto in supplicazione all'Eterno, rimanere vicine all'Eterno, il nostro DIO, giorno e notte, perché sostenga la causa del suo servo e la causa del suo popolo, secondo il bisogno di ogni giorno,

60 T hat all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God, and that there is none else.

affinché tutti i popoli della terra riconoscano che l'Eterno è DIO e non ve n'è alcun altro.

61 L et your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.

Sia dunque il vostro cuore dato interamente all'Eterno, il nostro DIO, per seguire i suoi statuti e osservare i suoi comandamenti, come fate oggi!».

62 A nd the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the Lord.

Poi il re e tutto Israele con lui offrirono sacrifici davanti all'Eterno.

63 A nd Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the Lord, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the Lord.

Salomone immolò come sacrificio di ringraziamento, che egli offrí all'Eterno, ventiduemila buoi e centoventimila pecore. Cosí il re e tutti i figli d'Israele dedicarono la casa dell'Eterno.

64 T he same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen altar that was before the Lord was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.

In quel giorno il re consacrò la parte centrale del cortile, che è davanti alla casa dell'Eterno; là infatti egli offrí gli olocausti, le oblazioni di cibo e il grasso dei sacrifici di ringraziamento, perché l'altare di bronzo, che è davanti all'Eterno, era troppo piccolo per contenere gli olocausti, le oblazioni di cibo e il grasso dei sacrifici di ringraziamento.

65 A nd at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the Lord our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.

In quel tempo Salomone celebrò una festa davanti all'Eterno, il nostro DIO, e tutto Israele con lui. A lui si uní una grande assemblea di gente, venuta dai dintorni di Hamath fino al torrente d'Egitto, per sette giorni e per altri sette giorni, in tutto quattordici giorni.

66 O n the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the Lord had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.

L'ottavo giorno congedò il popolo, e quelli convenuti benedirono il re e tornarono alle loro tende allegri e col cuore contento per tutto il bene che l'Eterno aveva fatto al suo servo Davide e a Israele, suo popolo.
