1 A nd it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.

Or avvenne, in capo a due interi anni, che il Faraone fece un sogno. Egli stava presso il fiume,

2 A nd, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.

ed ecco salire dal fiume sette vacche, di bell'aspetto e grasse, e mettersi a pascolare tra i giunchi.

3 A nd, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.

Dopo quelle, ecco salire dal fiume altre sette vacche brutte di aspetto e scarne, e fermarsi accanto alle prime sulla riva del fiume.

4 A nd the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.

Ora le vacche brutte di aspetto e scarne divorarono le sette vacche di bell'aspetto e grasse. Quindi il Faraone si svegliò.

5 A nd he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.

Poi si riaddormentò e sognò una seconda volta; ed ecco, sette spighe grosse e belle, venir su da un unico stelo.

6 A nd, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.

Poi ecco, sette spighe sottili e arse dal vento orientale, germogliare dopo di quelle.

7 A nd the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

E le spighe sottili inghiottirono le sette spighe grosse e piene. Allora il Faraone si svegliò, ed ecco, era un sogno.

8 A nd it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.

Al mattino il suo spirito era turbato, e mandò a chiamare tutti i maghi e tutti i savi d'Egitto; quindi il Faraone raccontò loro i suoi sogni, ma non ci fu alcuno che li potesse interpretare al Faraone.

9 T hen spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

Allora il capocoppiere parlò al Faraone, dicendo: Ricordo oggi i miei falli.

10 P haraoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker:

Il Faraone si era adirato con i suoi servi e mi aveva fatto mettere in prigione in casa del capo delle guardie: me e il capopanettiere.

11 A nd we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

Entrambi facemmo un sogno nella stessa notte, io e lui; ciascuno fece un sogno con il suo proprio significato.

12 A nd there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

Ora con noi vi era un giovane ebreo servo del capo delle guardie; a lui raccontammo i nostri sogni, ed egli ce li interpretò dando a ciascuno l'interpretazione del suo sogno.

13 A nd it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.

E le cose avvennero esattamente secondo l'interpretazione da lui dataci: il Faraone ristabilì me nel suo ufficio e fece impiccare l'altro».

14 T hen Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

Allora il Faraone mandò a chiamare Giuseppe che fu subito tratto fuori dalla prigione sotterranea. Così egli si rase si cambiò le vesti e venne dal Faraone.

15 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.

E il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Ho fatto un sogno e non vi è alcuno che lo possa interpretare; ma ho sentito dire di te che, quando hai udito un sogno tu lo puoi interpretare».

16 A nd Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

Giuseppe rispose al Faraone, dicendo: «Non sono io; ma sarà DIO a dare una risposta per il bene del Faraone».

17 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:

Allora il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Ecco nel mio sogno io stavo sulla riva del fiume,

18 A nd, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:

quand'ecco salire dal fiume sette vacche grasse e di bell'aspetto e mettersi a pascolare tra i giunchi.

19 A nd, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:

Dopo quelle ecco salire altre sette vacche magre, bruttissime di aspetto e scarne, tali che non ne vidi mai di così brutte in tutto il paese d'Egitto.

20 A nd the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:

E le vacche magre e brutte divorarono le prime sette vacche grasse;

21 A nd when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

ma anche dopo che le ebbero divorate, nessuno poteva riconoscere che le avevano divorate, perché esse erano di brutto aspetto come prima. Così mi svegliai.

22 A nd I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:

Poi vidi nel mio sogno sette spighe venir su da un unico stelo, piene e belle;

23 A nd, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:

ed ecco altre sette spighe avvizzite, sottili e arse dal vento orientale, germogliare dopo quelle.

24 A nd the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.

Quindi le spighe sottili inghiottirono le sette spighe belle. Io ho raccontato questo ai maghi, ma non vi è stato alcuno capace di darmi una spiegazione».

25 A nd Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.

Allora Giuseppe disse al Faraone: «I sogni del Faraone sono uno stesso sogno. DIO ha mostrato al Faraone quello che sta per fare.

26 T he seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.

Le sette vacche belle sono sette anni, e le sette spighe belle sono sette anni; è uno stesso sogno.

27 A nd the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

Anche le sette vacche magre e brutte, che salivano dopo di quelle, sono sette anni; come pure le sette spighe vuote e arse dal vento orientale sono sette anni di carestia.

28 T his is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.

Questo è quello che ho detto al Faraone: DIO ha mostrato al Faraone quello che sta per fare.

29 B ehold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:

Ecco, stanno per venire sette anni di grande abbondanza in tutto il paese di Egitto;

30 A nd there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

ma dopo questi verranno sette anni di carestia, e tutta quell'abbondanza sarà dimenticata nel paese d'Egitto; e la carestia consumerà il paese.

31 A nd the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.

E nel paese non si ricorderà piú la precedete abbondanza, a motivo della carestia che seguirà, perché questa sarà molto dura.

32 A nd for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.

Il fatto poi che il sogno sia stato dato al Faraone due volte vuol dire che la cosa è decretata da DIO, e DIO la farà accadere presto.

33 N ow therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

Or dunque cerchi il Faraone un uomo intelligente e savio e lo stabilisca sul paese d'Egitto.

34 L et Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.

Il Faraone faccia così: costituisca sul paese dei soprintendenti per prelevare il quinto dei prodotti del paese d'Egitto, durante i sette anni di abbondanza.

35 A nd let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.

Radunino essi tutti i viveri di queste annate buone che stanno per venire e ammassino il grano sotto l'autorità del Faraone, e lo conservino per l'approvvigionamento delle città.

36 A nd that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.

Questi viveri saranno una riserva per il paese, in vista dei sette anni di carestia che verranno nel paese d'Egitto; così il paese non perirà per la carestia».

37 A nd the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

La cosa piacque al Faraone e a tutti i suoi funzionari.

38 A nd Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

E il Faraone disse ai suoi funzionari: «Potremmo noi trovare un uomo come questi, in cui ci sia lo Spirito di DIO?».

39 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

Allora il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Poiché DIO ti ha fatto conoscere tutto questo, non vi è alcuno che sia intelligente e savio come te.

40 T hou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

Tu sarai sopra la mia casa e tutto il mio popolo obbedirà ai tuoi ordini; per il trono soltanto io sarò piú grande di te».

41 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

Il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Vedi io ti stabilisco su tutto il paese d'Egitto».

42 A nd Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

Poi il Faraone si tolse l'anello dalla propria mano e lo mise alla mano di Giuseppe; lo fece vestire di abiti di lino fino e gli mise al collo una collana d'oro.

43 A nd he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

Lo fece quindi montare sul suo secondo carro e davanti a lui si gridava: «Inginocchio!». Così il Faraone lo costituì su tutto il paese d'Egitto.

44 A nd Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

Inoltre il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Il Faraone sono io ma, senza di te, nessuno alzerà la mano o il piede in tutto il paese d'Egitto».

45 A nd Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.

E il Faraone chiamó Giuseppe col nome di Tsofnath-Paneah, e gli diede in moglie Asenath figlia di Potiferah, sacerdote di On. E Giuseppe partì per visitare il paese d'Egitto.

46 A nd Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

Ora Giuseppe aveva trent'anni quando si presentò davanti a Faraone, re d'Egitto. Quindi Giuseppe lasciò la presenza del Faraone e percorse tutto il paese d'Egitto.

47 A nd in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.

Durante i sette anni di abbondanza, la terra produsse copiosamente;

48 A nd he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.

e Giuseppe radunò tutti i viveri di quei sette anni prodotti nel paese d'Egitto e ripose i viveri nelle città; in ogni città ripose i viveri del territorio circonvicino.

49 A nd Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.

Così Giuseppe ammassò grano come la sabbia del mare, in così gran quantità, che si smise di tenere i conti perché era incalcolabile.

50 A nd unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.

prima che venisse l'anno della carestia, nacquero a Giuseppe due figli che Asenath, figlia di Potiferah, sacerdote di On, gli partorì.

51 A nd Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.

Giuseppe chiamò il primogenito Manasse perché disse: «DIO mi ha fatto dimenticare ogni mio affanno e tutta la casa di mio padre».

52 A nd the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

Al secondo invece pose nome Efraim, perché disse: «DIO mi ha reso fruttifero nel paese della mia afflizione».

53 A nd the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.

I sette anni di abbondanza che vi furono nel paese d'Egitto finirono,

54 A nd the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

e cominciarono a venire i sette anni di carestia, come Giuseppe aveva detto. Ci fu carestia in tutti i paesi, ma in tutto il paese d'Egitto vi era del pane.

55 A nd when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.

Poi tutto il paese d'Egitto cominciò ad aver fame, e il popolo gridò al Faraone per aver del pane. Allora il Faraone disse a tutti gli Egiziani: «Andate da Giuseppe, e fate quello che vi dirà».

56 A nd the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.

La carestia si era sparsa sulla superficie di tutto il paese, e Giuseppe aperse tutti i depositi e vendé grano agli Egiziani. Ma la carestia si aggravò nel paese d'Egitto.

57 A nd all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

Così la gente di tutti i paesi veniva in Egitto da Giuseppe per comprare del grano, perché la carestia era grave in tutta la terra.
