1 L ord, remember David, and all his afflictions:

«Canto dei pellegrinaggi.» Ricordati, o Eterno, di Davide e di tutte le sue fatiche,

2 H ow he sware unto the Lord, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;

come egli giurò all'Eterno e fece voto al Potente di Giacobbe, dicendo:

3 S urely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;

«Non entrerò nella tenda della mia casa, né salirò sul mio letto;

4 I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,

non darò sonno ai miei occhi né riposo alle mie palpebre,

5 U ntil I find out a place for the Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.

finché abbia trovato un luogo per l'Eterno, una dimora per il Potente di Giacobbe».

6 L o, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.

Ecco, ne abbiamo sentito parlare in Efratah, l'abbiamo trovata nei campi di Jaar.

7 W e will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.

Andiamo nella sua dimora adoriamo davanti allo sgabello dei suoi piedi.

8 A rise, O Lord, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.

Levati, o Eterno e vieni al luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l'arca della tua forza.

9 L et thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy.

I tuoi sacerdoti siano rivestiti di giustizia, e cantino di gioia i tuoi santi.

10 F or thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.

Per amore di Davide, tuo servo, non respingere il volto del tuo unto.

11 T he Lord hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

L'Eterno ha giurato a Davide in verità e non cambierà: «Io metterò sul tuo trono un frutto delle tue viscere.

12 I f thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

Se i tuoi figli osserveranno il mio patto e i miei precetti, che insegnerò loro, anche i loro figli sederanno per sempre sul tuo trono».

13 F or the Lord hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.

Poiché l'Eterno ha scelto Sion, egli l'ha desiderata per sua dimora:

14 T his is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

«Questo è il mio luogo di riposo per sempre; qui abiterò, perché l'ho desiderato.

15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

Benedirò largamente le sue provviste, sazierò di pane i suoi poveri;

16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

rivestirò i suoi sacerdoti di salvezza, esulteranno i suoi santi con grida di gioia.

17 T here will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.

Qui farò crescere la potenza di Davide e provvederò una lampada al mio unto.

18 H is enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

Coprirò di vergogna i suoi nemici, ma su di lui fiorirà la sua corona».
