2 W e give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;

3 R emembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

ricordando continuamente la vostra opera di fede, la fatica del vostro amore e la costanza della speranza che voi avete nel Signore nostro Gesú Cristo davanti a Dio, nostro Padre,

4 K nowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

conoscendo, fratelli amati da Dio, la vostra elezione,

5 F or our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

perché il nostro evangelo non è giunto fino a voi soltanto a parole, ma anche con potenza e con lo Spirito Santo, e con molta convinzione; voi sapete come ci siamo comportati fra voi per amor vostro.

6 A nd ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.

E voi siete divenuti nostri imitatori e del Signore, avendo ricevuta la parola in mezzo a tanta afflizione con la gioia dello Spirito Santo,

7 S o that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

cosí da divenire un esempio a tutti i credenti della Macedonia e dell'Acaia.

8 F or from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

Infatti non solo la parola del Signore è tramite voi risuonata nella Macedonia e nell'Acaia, ma anche la vostra fede che avete verso Dio si è divulgata in ogni luogo, tanto che non abbiamo bisogno di parlarne,

9 F or they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

poiché essi stessi raccontano di noi, quale sia stata la nostra venuta tra voi e come vi siete convertiti dagli idoli a Dio, per servire al Dio vivente e vero,

10 A nd to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

e per aspettare dai cieli il suo Figlio, che egli ha risuscitato dai morti, cioè Gesú, che ci libera dall'ira a venire.
