1 M y son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

Hijo mío, si recibes mis palabras, Y guardas mis mandamientos dentro de ti,

2 S o that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Haciendo estar atento tu oído a la sabiduría; Si inclinas tu corazón a la prudencia,

3 Y ea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

Si clamas a la inteligencia, Y a la prudencia das voces;

4 I f thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

Si como a la plata la buscas, Y la rebuscas como a tesoros,

5 T hen shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

Entonces entenderás el temor de Jehová, Y hallarás el conocimiento de Dios.

6 F or the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Porque Jehová da la sabiduría, Y de su boca nacen el conocimiento y la inteligencia.

7 H e layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

Él provee de sana sabiduría a los rectos; Es escudo para los que caminan rectamente.

8 H e keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

Es el que custodia las veredas de la equidad, Y preserva el camino de sus santos.

9 T hen shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

Entonces entenderás justicia, juicio Y equidad, y todo buen camino.

10 W hen wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

Cuando la sabiduría entre en tu corazón, Y la ciencia sea grata a tu alma,

11 D iscretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

La discreción te guardará; Te protegerá la inteligencia,

12 T o deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

Para librarte del mal camino, De los hombres que hablan perversidades,

13 W ho leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

Que dejan los caminos derechos, Para andar por sendas tenebrosas;

14 W ho rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

Que se alegran haciendo el mal, Que se complacen en las perversidades del vicio;

15 W hose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

Cuyas veredas son tortuosas, Y sus caminos llenos de rodeos.

16 T o deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

Serás librado de la mujer extraña, De la ajena que halaga con sus palabras,

17 W hich forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

La cual abandona al compañero de su juventud, Y se olvida del pacto de su Dios.

18 F or her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

Por lo cual su casa está inclinada hacia la muerte, Y sus veredas hacia las sombras de muerte;

19 N one that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

Todos los que a ella se lleguen, no volverán, Ni alcanzarán otra vez los senderos de la vida.

20 T hat thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

Así andarás por el camino de los buenos, Y seguirás las veredas de los justos;

21 F or the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

Porque los rectos habitarán la tierra, Y los íntegros permanecerán en ella,

22 B ut the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

Mas los impíos serán cortados de la tierra, Y los prevaricadores serán desarraigados de ella.
