1 T here was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

Había un hombre de los fariseos que se llamaba Nicodemo, un hombre importante entre los judíos.

2 T he same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Éste vino a Jesús de noche, y le dijo: Rabí, sabemos que has venido de Dios como maestro; porque nadie puede hacer estas señales que tú haces, si no está Dios con él.

3 J esus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Respondió Jesús y le dijo: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no nace de nuevo, no puede ver el reino de Dios.

4 N icodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Nicodemo le dijo: ¿Cómo puede un hombre nacer siendo viejo? ¿Puede acaso entrar por segunda vez en el vientre de su madre, y nacer?

5 J esus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Respondió Jesús: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no nace de agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.

6 T hat which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es; y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es.

7 M arvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

No te asombres de que te dije: Os es necesario nacer de nuevo.

8 T he wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

El viento sopla donde quiere, y oyes su sonido; pero no sabes de dónde viene, ni adónde va; así es todo aquel que es nacido del Espíritu.

9 N icodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

Respondió Nicodemo y le dijo: ¿Cómo puede ser eso?

10 J esus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Tú eres el maestro de Israel, ¿y no conoces estas cosas?

11 V erily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

De cierto, de cierto te digo, que hablamos lo que sabemos, y testificamos de lo que hemos visto; y no recibís nuestro testimonio.

12 I f I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

Si os he dicho cosas de la tierra, y no creéis, ¿cómo creeréis si os digo las del cielo?

13 A nd no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

Y nadie ha subido al cielo, sino el que descendió del cielo; el Hijo del Hombre, que está en el cielo.

14 A nd as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así también tiene que ser levantado el Hijo del Hombre,

15 T hat whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

para que todo aquel que cree en él, no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna. De tal manera amó Dios al mundo

16 F or God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que cree en él, no perezca, sino que tenga vida eterna.

17 F or God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Porque Dios no envió a su Hijo al mundo para condenar al mundo, sino para que el mundo sea salvo por medio de él.

18 H e that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

El que cree en él, no es condenado; pero el que no cree, ya ha sido condenado, porque no ha creído en el nombre del unigénito Hijo de Dios.

19 A nd this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Y esta es la condenación: que la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz, porque sus obras eran malas.

20 F or every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

Porque todo aquel que obra el mal, aborrece la luz y no viene a la luz, para que sus obras no sean redargüidas.

21 B ut he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Pero el que practica la verdad viene a la luz, para que sean manifiestas sus obras, que han sido hechas según Dios. El amigo del esposo

22 A fter these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

Después de esto, vino Jesús con sus discípulos a la tierra de Judea, y pasó allí algún tiempo con ellos, y bautizaba.

23 A nd John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

Juan también bautizaba en Enón, cerca de Salim, porque había allí muchas aguas; y acudían y eran bautizados.

24 F or John was not yet cast into prison.

Porque Juan no había sido aún encarcelado.

25 T hen there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.

Hubo, pues, una discusión entre los discípulos de Juan y un judío acerca de la purificación.

26 A nd they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.

Y vinieron a Juan y le dijeron: Rabí, el que estaba contigo al otro lado del Jordán, de quien tú diste testimonio, mira, ése está bautizando, y todos vienen a él.

27 J ohn answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

Respondió Juan y dijo: Un hombre no puede recibir nada, si no se le ha dado del cielo.

28 Y e yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

Vosotros mismos me sois testigos de que dije: Yo no soy el Cristo, sino que soy enviado delante de él.

29 H e that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

El que tiene a la novia, es el novio; pero el amigo del novio, que está a su lado y le oye, se alegra mucho por la voz del novio; así pues, este gozo mío se ha completado.

30 H e must increase, but I must decrease.

Es necesario que él crezca, y que yo mengüe. El que viene de arriba

31 H e that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

El que viene de arriba está por encima de todos; el que es de la tierra, es terrenal, y habla cosas terrenales; el que viene del cielo, está sobre todos.

32 A nd what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.

Y lo que ha visto y oído, de eso testifica; y nadie recibe su testimonio.

33 H e that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.

El que recibe su testimonio, ése certifica que Dios es veraz.

34 F or he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

Porque Aquel a quien Dios ha enviado, habla las palabras de Dios; pues Dios no da el Espíritu por medida.

35 T he Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

El Padre ama al Hijo, y todas las cosas las ha entregado en su mano.

36 H e that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

El que cree en el Hijo, tiene vida eterna; mas el que rehúsa creer en el Hijo, no verá la vida, sino que la ira de Dios permanece sobre él.
