1 A nd all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

Entonces toda la congregación gritó, y dio voces; y el pueblo lloró aquella noche.

2 A nd all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

Y se quejaron contra Moisés y contra Aarón todos los hijos de Israel; y les dijo toda la multitud: ¡Ojalá muriéramos en la tierra de Egipto; o en este desierto ojalá muriéramos!

3 A nd wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

¿Y por qué nos trae Jehová a esta tierra para caer a espada, y que nuestras mujeres y nuestros niños sean por presa? ¿No nos sería mejor volvernos a Egipto?

4 A nd they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

Y decían el uno al otro: Designemos un capitán, y volvámonos a Egipto.

5 T hen Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

Entonces Moisés y Aarón se postraron sobre sus rostros delante de toda la multitud de la congregación de los hijos de Israel.

6 A nd Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

Y Josué hijo de Nun y Caleb hijo de Jefuné, que eran de los que habían reconocido la tierra, rompieron sus vestidos,

7 A nd they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

y hablaron a toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, diciendo: La tierra por donde pasamos para reconocerla, es tierra en gran manera buena.

8 I f the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

Si Jehová se agrada de nosotros, él nos conducirá a esta tierra, y nos la entregará; tierra que fluye leche y miel.

9 O nly rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.

Por tanto, no seáis rebeldes contra Jehová, ni temáis al pueblo de esta tierra; porque nosotros los comeremos como pan; su amparo se ha apartado de ellos, y con nosotros está Jehová; no los temáis.

10 B ut all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

Entonces toda la multitud habló de apedrearlos. Pero la gloria de Jehová se mostró en el tabernáculo de reunión a todos los hijos de Israel,

11 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

y Jehová dijo a Moisés: ¿Hasta cuándo me ha de irritar este pueblo? ¿Hasta cuándo no me creerán, con todas las señales que he hecho en medio de ellos?

12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

Yo los heriré de mortandad y los destruiré, y a ti te pondré sobre gente más grande y más fuerte que ellos.

13 A nd Moses said unto the Lord, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)

Pero Moisés respondió a Jehová: Lo oirán luego los egipcios, porque de en medio de ellos sacaste a este pueblo con tu poder;

14 A nd they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou Lord art among this people, that thou Lord art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

y lo dirán a los habitantes de esta tierra, los cuales han oído que tú, oh Jehová, estabas en medio de este pueblo, que cara a cara aparecías tú, oh Jehová, y que tu nube estaba sobre ellos, y que de día ibas delante de ellos en columna de nube, y de noche en columna de fuego;

15 N ow if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

y que has hecho morir a este pueblo como a un solo hombre; y las gentes que hayan oído tu fama hablarán, diciendo:

16 B ecause the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

Por cuanto no pudo Jehová meter este pueblo en la tierra de la cual les había jurado, los mató en el desierto.

17 A nd now, I beseech thee, let the power of my lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

Ahora, pues, yo te ruego que sea magnificado el poder del Señor, como lo hablaste, diciendo:

18 T he Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

Jehová, tardo para la ira y grande en misericordia, que perdona la iniquidad y la rebelión, aunque de ningún modo tendrá por inocente al culpable; que visita la maldad de los padres sobre los hijos hasta los terceros y hasta los cuartos.

19 P ardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

Perdona ahora la iniquidad de este pueblo según la grandeza de tu misericordia, y como has perdonado a este pueblo desde Egipto hasta aquí. Jehová castiga a Israel

20 A nd the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

Entonces Jehová dijo: Yo lo he perdonado conforme a tu dicho.

21 B ut as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.

Mas tan ciertamente como vivo yo, y mi gloria llena toda la tierra,

22 B ecause all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

todos los que vieron mi gloria y mis señales que he hecho en Egipto y en el desierto, y me han tentado ya diez veces, y no han oído mi voz,

23 S urely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

no verán la tierra de la cual juré a sus padres; no, ninguno de los que me han irritado la verá.

24 B ut my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

Pero a mi siervo Caleb, por cuanto hubo en él otro espíritu, y decidió ir en pos de mí, yo le meteré en la tierra donde entró, y su descendencia la tendrá en posesión.

25 ( Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

Ahora bien, el amalecita y el cananeo habitan en el valle; volveos mañana y salid al desierto, camino del Mar Rojo.

26 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

Y Jehová habló a Moisés y a Aarón, diciendo:

27 H ow long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

¿Hasta cuándo oiré esta depravada multitud que murmura contra mí, las querellas de los hijos de Israel, que de mí se quejan?

28 S ay unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

Diles: Vivo yo, dice Jehová, que según habéis hablado a mis oídos, así haré yo con vosotros.

29 Y our carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.

En este desierto caerán vuestros cuerpos; todo el número de los que fueron contados de entre vosotros, de veinte años arriba, los cuales han murmurado contra mí.

30 D oubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

Vosotros a la verdad no entraréis en la tierra, por la cual alcé mi mano y juré que os haría habitar en ella; exceptuando a Caleb hijo de Jefuné, y a Josué hijo de Nun.

31 B ut your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

Pero a vuestros niños, de los cuales dijisteis que serían por presa, yo los introduciré, y ellos conocerán la tierra que vosotros despreciasteis.

32 B ut as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.

En cuanto a vosotros, vuestros cuerpos caerán en este desierto.

33 A nd your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

Y vuestros hijos andarán pastoreando en el desierto cuarenta años, y ellos llevarán vuestras rebeldías, hasta que vuestros cuerpos sean consumidos en el desierto.

34 A fter the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

Conforme al número de los días, de los cuarenta días en que reconocisteis la tierra, llevaréis vuestras iniquidades cuarenta años, un año por cada día; y conoceréis mi castigo.

35 I the Lord have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

Yo Jehová he hablado; así haré a toda esta multitud perversa que se ha juntado contra mí; en este desierto serán consumidos, y ahí morirán. Castigo de los diez desconfiados

36 A nd the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,

Y los varones que Moisés envió a reconocer la tierra, y que al volver habían hecho murmurar contra él a toda la congregación, desacreditando aquel país,

37 E ven those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the Lord.

aquellos varones que habían hablado mal de la tierra, murieron de plaga delante de Jehová.

38 B ut Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.

Pero Josué hijo de Nun y Caleb hijo de Jefuné quedaron con vida, de entre aquellos hombres, que habían ido a reconocer la tierra. Vana tentativa en Hormá

39 A nd Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

Y Moisés dijo estas cosas a todos los hijos de Israel, y el pueblo se enlutó mucho.

40 A nd they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the Lord hath promised: for we have sinned.

Y se levantaron por la mañana y subieron a la cumbre del monte, diciendo: Henos aquí para subir al lugar del cual ha hablado Jehová; porque hemos pecado.

41 A nd Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the Lord ? but it shall not prosper.

Y dijo Moisés: ¿Por qué quebrantáis el mandamiento de Jehová? Esto tampoco os saldrá bien.

42 G o not up, for the Lord is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

No subáis, porque Jehová no está en medio de vosotros, no seáis heridos delante de vuestros enemigos.

43 F or the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the Lord, therefore the Lord will not be with you.

Porque el amalecita y el cananeo están allí delante de vosotros, y caeréis a espada; pues por cuanto os habéis negado a seguir a Jehová, por eso no estará Jehová con vosotros.

44 B ut they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

Sin embargo, se obstinaron en subir a la cima del monte; pero el arca del pacto de Jehová, y Moisés, no se apartaron de en medio del campamento.

45 T hen the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

Y descendieron el amalecita y el cananeo que habitaban en aquel monte, y los hirieron y los derrotaron, persiguiéndolos hasta Hormá.
