1 A nd all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

Entonces toda la congregación gritó y dio voces; y el pueblo lloró aquella noche.

2 A nd all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!

Todos los hijos de Israel se quejaron contra Moisés y contra Aarón, y toda la multitud les dijo: «¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto en la tierra de Egipto! ¡Ojalá muriéramos en este desierto!

3 A nd wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?

¿Por qué nos trae Jehová a esta tierra para morir a espada, y para que nuestras mujeres y nuestros niños se conviertan en botín de guerra? ¿No nos sería mejor regresar a Egipto?»

4 A nd they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

Y se decían unos a otros: «Designemos un capitán y volvamos a Egipto.»

5 T hen Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

Moisés y Aarón se postraron sobre sus rostros delante de toda la multitud de la congregación de los hijos de Israel.

6 A nd Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:

Y Josué hijo de Nun y Caleb hijo de Jefone, que eran de los que habían reconocido la tierra, rompieron sus vestidos

7 A nd they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

y dijeron a toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel: —La tierra que recorrimos y exploramos es tierra muy buena.

8 I f the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

Si Jehová se agrada de nosotros, él nos llevará a esta tierra y nos la entregará; es una tierra que fluye leche y miel.

9 O nly rebel not ye against the Lord, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.

Por tanto, no seáis rebeldes contra Jehová ni temáis al pueblo de esta tierra, pues vosotros los comeréis como pan. Su amparo se ha apartado de ellos y Jehová está con nosotros: no los temáis.

10 B ut all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.

Entonces toda la multitud propuso apedrearlos. Pero la gloria de Jehová se mostró en el Tabernáculo de reunión a todos los hijos de Israel.

11 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?

Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: —¿Hasta cuándo me ha de irritar este pueblo? ¿Hasta cuándo no me creerán, con todas las señales que he hecho en medio de ellos?

12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

Yo los heriré de mortandad y los destruiré, y a ti te pondré sobre gente más grande y más fuerte que ellos.

13 A nd Moses said unto the Lord, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)

Pero Moisés respondió a Jehová: —Lo oirán luego los egipcios, porque de en medio de ellos sacaste a este pueblo con tu poder,

14 A nd they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou Lord art among this people, that thou Lord art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

y se lo dirán a los habitantes de esta tierra, los cuales han oído que tú, Jehová, estabas en medio de este pueblo, que cara a cara aparecías tú, Jehová, y que tu nube estaba sobre ellos, que de día ibas delante de ellos en una columna de nube, y de noche en una columna de fuego.

15 N ow if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

Si haces morir a este pueblo como a un solo hombre, las gentes que hayan oído tu fama dirán:

16 B ecause the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

“Por cuanto no pudo Jehová introducir a este pueblo en la tierra que había jurado darle, los ha matado en el desierto.”

17 A nd now, I beseech thee, let the power of my lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

Ahora, pues, yo te ruego que sea magnificado el poder del Señor, como lo prometiste al decir:

18 T he Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

“Jehová es tardo para la ira y grande en misericordia, perdona la maldad y la rebelión, aunque de ningún modo tendrá por inocente al culpable, pues castiga el pecado de los padres sobre los hijos hasta la tercera y la cuarta generación.”

19 P ardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.

Perdona ahora la maldad de este pueblo según la grandeza de tu misericordia, como has perdonado a este pueblo desde Egipto hasta aquí. Jehová castiga a Israel

20 A nd the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word:

Entonces Jehová dijo: —Yo lo he perdonado, conforme a tu dicho.

21 B ut as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.

Pero tan ciertamente como vivo yo y mi gloria llena toda la tierra,

22 B ecause all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

que ninguno de los que vieron mi gloria y las señales que he hecho en Egipto y en el desierto, los que me han tentado ya diez veces y no han oído mi voz,

23 S urely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

verá la tierra que juré dar a sus padres; no, ninguno de los que me han irritado la verá.

24 B ut my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

Pero a mi siervo Caleb, por cuanto lo ha animado otro espíritu y decidió ir detrás de mí, yo lo haré entrar en la tierra donde estuvo, y su descendencia la tendrá en posesión.

25 ( Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

Ahora bien, el amalecita y el cananeo habitan en el valle; volveos mañana y salid al desierto, camino del Mar Rojo.

26 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

Jehová habló a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo:

27 H ow long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

—¿Hasta cuándo soportaré a esta depravada multitud que murmura contra mí? Ya he oído las querellas de los hijos de Israel que de mí se quejan.

28 S ay unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

Diles: Vivo yo, dice Jehová, que según habéis hablado a mis oídos, así haré yo con vosotros.

29 Y our carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.

En este desierto caerán vuestros cuerpos, todo el número de los que fueron contados de entre vosotros, de veinte años para arriba, los cuales han murmurado contra mí.

30 D oubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

A excepción de Caleb hijo de Jefone y Josué hijo de Nun, ninguno de vosotros entrará en la tierra por la cual alcé mi mano y juré que os haría habitar en ella.

31 B ut your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

Pero a vuestros niños, de los cuales dijisteis que se convertirían en botín de guerra, yo los introduciré, y ellos conocerán la tierra que vosotros despreciasteis.

32 B ut as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.

En cuanto a vosotros, vuestros cuerpos caerán en este desierto.

33 A nd your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

Vuestros hijos andarán pastoreando en el desierto cuarenta años, y cargarán con vuestras rebeldías, hasta que vuestros cuerpos sean consumidos en el desierto.

34 A fter the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

Conforme al número de los días, de los cuarenta días que empleasteis en reconocer la tierra, cargaréis con vuestras iniquidades: cuarenta años, un año por cada día. Así conoceréis mi castigo.

35 I the Lord have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

Yo, Jehová, he hablado. Así haré a toda esta multitud perversa que se ha juntado contra mí. En este desierto serán consumidos, y ahí morirán.

36 A nd the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,

Los hombres que Moisés envió a reconocer la tierra, y que al volver habían hecho murmurar contra él a toda la congregación, desacreditando aquel país,

37 E ven those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the Lord.

aquellos hombres que habían hablado mal de la tierra, murieron de plaga delante de Jehová.

38 B ut Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.

Pero Josué hijo de Nun y Caleb hijo de Jefone quedaron con vida de entre aquellos hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra. La derrota en Horma

39 A nd Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

Moisés dijo estas cosas a todos los hijos de Israel, y el pueblo se enlutó mucho.

40 A nd they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the Lord hath promised: for we have sinned.

Se levantaron muy de mañana y subieron a la cumbre del monte, diciendo: —Aquí estamos para subir al lugar del cual ha hablado Jehová, porque hemos pecado.

41 A nd Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the Lord ? but it shall not prosper.

Moisés les respondió: —¿Por qué quebrantáis el mandamiento de Jehová? Esto tampoco os saldrá bien.

42 G o not up, for the Lord is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

No subáis, pues Jehová no está en medio de vosotros: no seáis heridos delante de vuestros enemigos.

43 F or the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the Lord, therefore the Lord will not be with you.

Porque el amalecita y el cananeo están allí delante de vosotros, y caeréis bajo su espada, pues Jehová no estará con vosotros, por cuanto os habéis negado a seguirlo.

44 B ut they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

Ellos, sin embargo, se obstinaron en subir a la cima del monte; pero ni el Arca del pacto de Jehová ni Moisés se apartaron de en medio del campamento.

45 T hen the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

Entonces descendieron el amalecita y el cananeo que habitaban en aquel monte, los hirieron, los derrotaron y los persiguieron hasta Horma.
