1 B ut of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

Acerca de los tiempos y de las ocasiones, no tenéis necesidad, hermanos, de que yo os escriba,

2 F or yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

porque vosotros sabéis perfectamente que el día del Señor vendrá así como ladrón en la noche.

3 F or when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Cuando digan: «Paz y seguridad», entonces vendrá sobre ellos destrucción repentina, como los dolores a la mujer encinta, y no escaparán.

4 B ut ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Pero vosotros, hermanos, no estáis en tinieblas, para que aquel día os sorprenda como ladrón.

5 Y e are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Porque todos vosotros sois hijos de luz e hijos del día; no somos de la noche ni de las tinieblas.

6 T herefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

Por tanto, no durmamos como los demás, sino vigilemos y seamos sobrios,

7 F or they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

pues los que duermen, de noche duermen, y los que se embriagan, de noche se embriagan.

8 B ut let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Pero nosotros, que somos del día, seamos sobrios, habiéndonos vestido con la coraza de la fe y del amor, y con la esperanza de salvación como casco.

9 F or God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Dios no nos ha puesto para ira, sino para alcanzar salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo,

10 W ho died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

quien murió por nosotros para que ya sea que vigilemos, o que durmamos, vivamos juntamente con él.

11 W herefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Por lo cual, animaos unos a otros y edificaos unos a otros, así como lo estáis haciendo. Pablo exhorta a los hermanos

12 A nd we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

Os rogamos, hermanos, que reconozcáis a los que trabajan entre vosotros y os presiden en el Señor y os amonestan.

13 A nd to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

Tenedlos en mucha estima y amor por causa de su obra. Tened paz entre vosotros.

14 N ow we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

También os rogamos, hermanos, que amonestéis a los ociosos, que alentéis a los de poco ánimo, que sostengáis a los débiles, que seáis pacientes para con todos.

15 S ee that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

Mirad que ninguno pague a otro mal por mal, antes seguid siempre lo bueno unos para con otros y para con todos.

16 R ejoice evermore.

Estad siempre gozosos.

17 P ray without ceasing.

Orad sin cesar.

18 I n every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Dad gracias en todo, porque ésta es la voluntad de Dios para con vosotros en Cristo Jesús.

19 Q uench not the Spirit.

No apaguéis al Espíritu.

20 D espise not prophesyings.

No menospreciéis las profecías.

21 P rove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Examinadlo todo y retened lo bueno.

22 A bstain from all appearance of evil.

Absteneos de toda especie de mal.

23 A nd the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Que el mismo Dios de paz os santifique por completo; y todo vuestro ser —espíritu, alma y cuerpo— sea guardado irreprochable para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

24 F aithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Fiel es el que os llama, el cual también lo hará.

25 B rethren, pray for us.

Hermanos, orad por nosotros.

26 G reet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

Saludad a todos los hermanos con beso santo.

27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

Os encargo encarecidamente, por el Señor, que esta carta se lea a todos los santos hermanos.

28 T he grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

La gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con vosotros. Amén.
