1 T he former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

En mi primer escrito, Teófilo, me referí a todas las cosas que Jesús hizo y enseñó desde el comienzo

2 U ntil the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

hasta el día en que fue recibido arriba, después de haber dado mandamientos por el Espíritu Santo a los apóstoles que había escogido.

3 T o whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

A ellos también, después de haber padecido, se presentó vivo con muchas pruebas indubitables, apareciéndoseles durante cuarenta días y hablándoles acerca del reino de Dios.

4 A nd, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

Y estando juntos, les ordenó: —No salgáis de Jerusalén, sino esperad la promesa del Padre, la cual oísteis de mí,

5 F or John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

porque Juan ciertamente bautizó con agua, pero vosotros seréis bautizados con el Espíritu Santo dentro de no muchos días. La ascensión

6 W hen they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

Entonces los que se habían reunido le preguntaron, diciendo: —Señor, ¿restaurarás el reino a Israel en este tiempo?

7 A nd he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Les dijo: —No os toca a vosotros saber los tiempos o las ocasiones que el Padre puso en su sola potestad;

8 B ut ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

pero recibiréis poder cuando haya venido sobre vosotros el Espíritu Santo, y me seréis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea, en Samaria y hasta lo último de la tierra.

9 A nd when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, viéndolo ellos, fue alzado, y lo recibió una nube que lo ocultó de sus ojos.

10 A nd while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

Y estando ellos con los ojos puestos en el cielo, entre tanto que él se iba, se pusieron junto a ellos dos varones con vestiduras blancas,

11 W hich also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

los cuales les dijeron: —Galileos, ¿por qué estáis mirando al cielo? Este mismo Jesús, que ha sido tomado de vosotros al cielo, así vendrá como lo habéis visto ir al cielo. Elección del sucesor de Judas

12 T hen returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

Entonces volvieron a Jerusalén desde el monte que se llama del Olivar, el cual está cerca de Jerusalén, camino de un sábado.

13 A nd when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

Cuando llegaron, subieron al aposento alto, donde se alojaban Pedro y Jacobo, Juan, Andrés, Felipe, Tomás, Bartolomé, Mateo, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas hermano de Jacobo.

14 T hese all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Todos estos perseveraban unánimes en oración y ruego, con las mujeres, y con María la madre de Jesús, y con sus hermanos.

15 A nd in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

En aquellos días Pedro se levantó en medio de los hermanos (los reunidos eran como ciento veinte en número), y dijo:

16 M en and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

—Hermanos, era necesario que se cumpliera la Escritura que el Espíritu Santo, por boca de David, había anunciado acerca de Judas, que fue guía de los que prendieron a Jesús,

17 F or he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

y era contado con nosotros y tenía parte en este ministerio.

18 N ow this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

Éste, pues, que había adquirido un campo con el salario de su iniquidad, cayó de cabeza y se reventó por la mitad, y todas sus entrañas se derramaron.

19 A nd it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

Y fue notorio a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén, de tal manera que aquel campo se llama en su propia lengua, Acéldama (que significa “Campo de sangre”),

20 F or it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

porque está escrito en el libro de los Salmos: »“Sea hecha desierta su habitación y no haya quien more en ella”, »y: »“Tome otro su oficio.”

21 W herefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

»Es necesario, pues, que de estos hombres que han estado juntos con nosotros todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús entraba y salía entre nosotros,

22 B eginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

comenzando desde el bautismo de Juan hasta el día en que de entre nosotros fue recibido arriba, uno sea hecho con nosotros testigo de su resurrección.

23 A nd they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

Entonces propusieron a dos: a José, llamado Barsabás, que tenía por sobrenombre Justo, y a Matías.

24 A nd they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

Y orando, dijeron: «Tú, Señor, que conoces los corazones de todos, muestra cuál de estos dos has escogido,

25 T hat he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

para que tome la parte de este ministerio y apostolado, del cual cayó Judas por transgresión, para irse a su propio lugar.»

26 A nd they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Entonces echaron suertes sobre ellos, y la suerte cayó sobre Matías; y fue contado con los once apóstoles.
