1 A nd all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.

Toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel partió del desierto de Sin avanzando por jornadas, conforme al mandamiento de Jehová, y acamparon en Refidim, donde no había agua para que el pueblo bebiera.

2 W herefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the Lord ?

Y disputó el pueblo con Moisés, diciéndole: —Danos agua para que bebamos. —¿Por qué disputáis conmigo? ¿Por qué tentáis a Jehová? —les respondió Moisés.

3 A nd the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

Así que el pueblo tuvo allí sed, y murmuró contra Moisés: —¿Por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto para matarnos de sed a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y a nuestros ganados?

4 A nd Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.

Entonces clamó Moisés a Jehová, y dijo: —¿Qué haré con este pueblo? ¡Poco falta para que me apedreen!

5 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.

Jehová respondió a Moisés: —Pasa delante del pueblo y toma contigo algunos ancianos de Israel; toma también en tu mano la vara con que golpeaste el río, y ve.

6 B ehold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Allí yo estaré ante ti sobre la peña, en Horeb; golpearás la peña, y saldrán de ella aguas para que beba el pueblo. Moisés lo hizo así en presencia de los ancianos de Israel.

7 A nd he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us, or not?

Y dio a aquel lugar el nombre de Masah y Meriba, por la rencilla de los hijos de Israel y porque tentaron a Jehová al decir: «¿Está, pues, Jehová entre nosotros o no?» La batalla contra Amalec

8 T hen came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

Después vino Amalec y peleó contra Israel en Refidim.

9 A nd Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

Y dijo Moisés a Josué: —Escoge a algunos hombres y sal a pelear contra Amalec. Mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre del collado con la vara de Dios en mi mano.

10 S o Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

Josué hizo como le dijo Moisés y salió a pelear contra Amalec. Moisés, Aarón y Hur subieron a la cumbre del collado.

11 A nd it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

Y sucedía que cuando alzaba Moisés su mano, Israel vencía; pero cuando él bajaba su mano, vencía Amalec.

12 B ut Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

Como las manos de Moisés se cansaban, tomaron una piedra y la pusieron debajo de él. Moisés se sentó sobre ella, mientras Aarón y Hur sostenían sus manos, uno de un lado y el otro del otro; así se mantuvieron firmes sus manos hasta que se puso el sol.

13 A nd Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

Y Josué deshizo a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.

14 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

Entonces Jehová dijo a Moisés: —Escribe esto para que sea recordado en un libro, y di a Josué que borraré del todo la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo.

15 A nd Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

Luego Moisés edificó un altar, al que puso por nombre Jehová-nisi,

16 F or he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

diciendo: «Por cuanto la mano de Amalec se levantó contra el trono de Jehová, Jehová estará en guerra con Amalec de generación en generación.»
