1 T hen answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

Respondió Bildad, el suhita, y dijo:

2 H ow long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

«¿Hasta cuándo hablarás tales cosas y las palabras de tu boca serán como un viento impetuoso?

3 D oth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

¿Acaso torcerá Dios el derecho o pervertirá el Todopoderoso la justicia?

4 I f thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

Si tus hijos pecaron contra él, él les hizo cargar con su pecado.

5 I f thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;

Si tú desde temprano buscas a Dios y ruegas al Todopoderoso;

6 I f thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

si eres puro y recto, ciertamente él velará por ti y hará prosperar la morada de tu justicia.

7 T hough thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

Y aunque tu principio haya sido pequeño, tu estado, al final, será engrandecido.

8 F or enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

»Pregunta tú ahora a las generaciones pasadas y disponte a interrogar a los padres de ellas;

9 ( For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

pues nosotros somos de ayer y nada sabemos, ya que nuestros días sobre la tierra son como una sombra.

10 S hall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

¿No te enseñarán ellos, te hablarán y sacarán palabras de su corazón?

11 C an the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?

»¿Crece el junco donde no hay lodo? ¿Crece el prado donde no hay agua?

12 W hilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

Con todo, aun en su verdor y sin haber sido cortado se seca antes que toda otra hierba.

13 S o are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

Tales son los caminos de todos los que se olvidan de Dios; y así perecerá la esperanza del impío,

14 W hose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

porque su esperanza es apenas como un hilo, y su confianza, como una tela de araña.

15 H e shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

Si se apoya en su casa, ella no permanecerá en pie; si se agarra a ella, no resistirá.

16 H e is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

Es como un árbol que está verde plantado al sol, y cuyos renuevos salen por encima de su huerto;

17 H is roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.

se van entretejiendo sus raíces junto a una fuente y se enlazan hasta llegar al lugar pedregoso.

18 I f he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

Pero si lo arrancan de su lugar, éste lo negará, diciendo: “Nunca te había visto.”

19 B ehold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

Ciertamente así será el gozo de su camino, y otros nacerán del polvo.

20 B ehold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

»Dios no desecha al íntegro ni ofrece apoyo a la mano del maligno.

21 T ill he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.

Él llenará aún tu boca de risas, y tus labios de júbilo.

22 T hey that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.

Los que te aborrecen serán cubiertos de confusión: la morada de los impíos perecerá.»
