1 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

Habló Jehová a Moisés en los campos de Moab, junto al Jordán, frente a Jericó, y le dijo:

2 C ommand the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.

«Manda a los hijos de Israel que den a los levitas, de la heredad que les pertenece, ciudades en que habiten; también daréis a los levitas los ejidos que están alrededor de esas ciudades.

3 A nd the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

Ellos tendrán ciudades donde habitar, y sus ejidos serán para sus animales, su ganado y todas sus bestias.

4 A nd the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.

Los ejidos de las ciudades que daréis a los levitas se extenderán mil codos a su alrededor, desde el muro de la ciudad hacia afuera.

5 A nd ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

Luego mediréis, fuera de la ciudad, dos mil codos hacia el lado del oriente, dos mil codos hacia el lado del sur, dos mil codos hacia el lado del occidente y dos mil codos hacia el lado del norte, y la ciudad quedará en el medio. Estos serán los ejidos de las ciudades.

6 A nd among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

»De las ciudades que daréis a los levitas, seis de ellas serán de refugio, las cuales daréis para que el homicida se refugie allá. Además de éstas, daréis cuarenta y dos ciudades.

7 S o all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.

Todas las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán cuarenta y ocho ciudades con sus ejidos.

8 A nd the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.

Y en cuanto a las ciudades que deis de la heredad de los hijos de Israel, del que tiene mucho tomaréis mucho y del que tiene poco tomaréis poco. Cada uno dará de sus ciudades a los levitas según la posesión que heredará.» Ciudades de refugio

9 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Habló Jehová a Moisés y le dijo:

10 S peak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

«Habla a los hijos de Israel y diles: Cuando hayáis pasado al otro lado del Jordán hacia la tierra de Canaán,

11 T hen ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.

señalaréis ciudades, ciudades que os sirvan de refugio, donde huya el homicida que hiera a alguien de muerte, sin intención.

12 A nd they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.

Esas ciudades serán para refugiarse del vengador, y así no morirá el homicida antes de haber comparecido a juicio delante de la congregación.

13 A nd of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.

De las ciudades, pues, que daréis, tendréis seis ciudades de refugio.

14 Y e shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.

Tres ciudades daréis a este lado del Jordán, y tres ciudades daréis en la tierra de Canaán, las cuales serán ciudades de refugio.

15 T hese six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.

Estas seis ciudades serán de refugio para los hijos de Israel, para el extranjero y el que habite entre ellos, para que huya allá cualquiera que hiera de muerte a otro sin intención.

16 A nd if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

»Si con instrumento de hierro lo hiere y muere, homicida es: el homicida morirá.

17 A nd if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

»Si lo hiere con una piedra que puede causar la muerte, y muere, homicida es: el homicida morirá.

18 O r if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

»Si lo hiere con un palo que puede causar la muerte, y muere, homicida es: el homicida morirá.

19 T he revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

El vengador de la sangre dará muerte al homicida; cuando lo encuentre, lo matará.

20 B ut if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;

»Si por odio lo empujó, o lanzó sobre él alguna cosa intencionalmente, y muere;

21 O r in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

o por enemistad lo hirió con sus manos, y murió, el que lo ha herido morirá: es un homicida. El vengador de la sangre matará al homicida cuando lo encuentre.

22 B ut if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,

»Pero si lo empujó casualmente y sin enemistad, o lanzó sobre él cualquier instrumento sin mala intención,

23 O r with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:

o bien, sin verlo, hizo caer sobre él alguna piedra capaz de matarlo, y muere, pero él no era su enemigo ni procuraba su mal,

24 T hen the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:

entonces la congregación juzgará entre el que causó la muerte y el vengador de la sangre conforme a estas leyes,

25 A nd the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

y la congregación librará al homicida de manos del vengador de la sangre. La congregación lo hará volver a la ciudad de refugio en la que se había refugiado, y allí se quedará hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote, el cual fue ungido con el aceite santo.

26 B ut if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;

»Pero si el homicida sale fuera de los límites de la ciudad de refugio en la que se asiló,

27 A nd the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:

y el vengador de la sangre lo encuentra fuera del límite de la ciudad de su refugio, y el vengador de la sangre mata al homicida, no se le culpará por ello,

28 B ecause he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

pues en su ciudad de refugio debería aquél habitar hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote. Después que haya muerto el sumo sacerdote, el homicida volverá a la tierra de su posesión. Ley sobre los testigos y sobre el rescate

29 S o these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

»Estas cosas serán una norma de derecho para vosotros y vuestros descendientes en todos los lugares donde habitéis.

30 W hoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

»Cualquiera que dé muerte a alguien, según la declaración de los testigos morirá el homicida; pero un solo testigo no bastará para condenar a una persona a muerte.

31 M oreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

»No aceptaréis rescate por la vida del homicida, porque está condenado a muerte: indefectiblemente morirá.

32 A nd ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

»Tampoco aceptaréis rescate por el que huyó a la ciudad de refugio, para que vuelva a vivir en su tierra antes que muera el sumo sacerdote.

33 S o ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

»No contaminaréis la tierra donde viváis, porque esta sangre mancillará la tierra, y la tierra no puede ser purificada de la sangre derramada en ella si no es por la sangre del que la derramó.

34 D efile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.

»No contaminéis la tierra donde habitáis, en medio de la cual yo habito, pues yo, Jehová, habito en medio de los hijos de Israel.»
