1 I n the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.

En el primer año de Belsasar, rey de Babilonia, tuvo Daniel un sueño y visiones de su cabeza mientras estaba en su lecho; luego escribió el sueño y relató lo principal del asunto.

2 D aniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.

Daniel dijo: «Miraba yo en mi visión de noche, y vi que los cuatro vientos del cielo combatían en el gran mar.

3 A nd four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.

Y cuatro bestias grandes, diferentes la una de la otra, subían del mar.

4 T he first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.

La primera era como un león, y tenía alas de águila. Yo estaba mirando hasta que sus alas le fueron arrancadas; fue levantada del suelo y se puso enhiesta sobre los pies, a manera de hombre, y se le dio corazón de hombre.

5 A nd behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh.

»Vi luego una segunda bestia, semejante a un oso, la cual se alzaba de un costado más que del otro. En su boca, entre los dientes, tenía tres costillas; y se le dijo: “Levántate y devora mucha carne.”

6 A fter this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

»Después de esto miré, y vi otra, semejante a un leopardo, con cuatro alas de ave en sus espaldas. Esta bestia tenía cuatro cabezas; y le fue dado dominio.

7 A fter this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

»Después de esto miraba yo en las visiones de la noche, y vi la cuarta bestia, espantosa, terrible y en gran manera fuerte, la cual tenía unos grandes dientes de hierro; devoraba y desmenuzaba, pisoteaba las sobras con sus pies, y era muy diferente de todas las bestias que había visto antes de ella; y tenía diez cuernos.

8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

»Mientras yo contemplaba los cuernos, otro cuerno pequeño salió entre ellos, y delante de él fueron arrancados tres cuernos de los primeros. Este cuerno tenía ojos como de hombre y una boca que hablaba con gran insolencia.

9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

»Estuve mirando hasta que fueron puestos unos tronos y se sentó un Anciano de días. Su vestido era blanco como la nieve; el pelo de su cabeza, como lana limpia; su trono, llama de fuego, y fuego ardiente las ruedas del mismo.

10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

Un río de fuego procedía y salía de delante de él; miles de miles lo servían, y millones de millones estaban delante de él. El Juez se sentó y los libros fueron abiertos.

11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.

»Yo entonces miraba a causa del sonido de las grandes insolencias que hablaba el cuerno; y mientras miraba mataron a la bestia, y su cuerpo fue destrozado y entregado para quemarlo en el fuego.

12 A s concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time.

También a las otras bestias les habían quitado su dominio, pero les había sido prolongada la vida hasta cierto tiempo.

13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

»Miraba yo en la visión de la noche, y vi que con las nubes del cielo venía uno como un hijo de hombre; vino hasta el Anciano de días, y lo hicieron acercarse delante de él.

14 A nd there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Y le fue dado dominio, gloria y reino, para que todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas lo sirvieran; su dominio es dominio eterno, que nunca pasará; y su reino es uno que nunca será destruido.

15 I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

»A mí, Daniel, se me turbó el espíritu hasta lo más hondo de mi ser, y las visiones de mi cabeza me asombraron.

16 I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.

Me acerqué a uno de los que allí estaban y le pregunté la verdad acerca de todo aquello. Me habló y me hizo conocer la interpretación de las cosas:

17 T hese great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.

»“Estas cuatro grandes bestias son cuatro reyes que se levantarán en la tierra.

18 B ut the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.

Después recibirán el reino los santos del Altísimo, y poseerán el reino hasta el siglo, eternamente y para siempre.”

19 T hen I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;

»Entonces tuve deseo de saber la verdad acerca de la cuarta bestia, que era tan diferente de todas las otras, espantosa en gran manera, que tenía dientes de hierro y uñas de bronce, que devoraba y desmenuzaba, y pisoteaba las sobras con sus pies;

20 A nd of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.

asimismo acerca de los diez cuernos que tenía en su cabeza, y del otro que le había salido, ante el cual habían caído tres. Este mismo cuerno tenía ojos y una boca que hablaba con gran insolencia, y parecía más grande que sus compañeros.

21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

Y veía yo que este cuerno hacía guerra contra los santos y los vencía,

22 U ntil the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

hasta que vino el Anciano de días, y se hizo justicia a los santos del Altísimo; y llegó el tiempo, y los santos recibieron el reino.

23 T hus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

»Dijo así: »“La cuarta bestia será un cuarto reino en la tierra, el cual será diferente de todos los otros reinos, y a toda la tierra devorará, trillará y despedazará.

24 A nd the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

Los diez cuernos significan que de aquel reino se levantarán diez reyes; y tras ellos se levantará otro, el cual será diferente de los primeros, y derribará a tres reyes.

25 A nd he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Hablará palabras contra el Altísimo, a los santos del Altísimo quebrantará y pensará en cambiar los tiempos y la Ley; y serán entregados en sus manos hasta tiempo, tiempos y medio tiempo.

26 B ut the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.

Pero se sentará el Juez, y le quitarán su dominio, para que sea destruido y arruinado hasta el fin,

27 A nd the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

y que el reino, el dominio y la majestad de los reinos debajo de todo el cielo sean dados al pueblo de los santos del Altísimo, cuyo reino es reino eterno, y todos los dominios lo servirán y obedecerán.”

28 H itherto is the end of the matter. As for me Daniel, my cogitations much troubled me, and my countenance changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.

»Aquí fue el fin de sus palabras. En cuanto a mí, Daniel, mis pensamientos me turbaron y mi rostro se demudó; pero guardé el asunto en mi corazón.»
