1 A nd God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.

Dijo Dios a Jacob: «Levántate, sube a Bet-el y quédate allí; y haz allí un altar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.»

2 T hen Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

Entonces Jacob dijo a su familia y a todos los que con él estaban: —Quitad los dioses ajenos que hay entre vosotros, limpiaos y mudad vuestros vestidos.

3 A nd let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

Levantémonos y subamos a Bet-el, pues allí haré un altar al Dios que me respondió en el día de mi angustia y que ha estado conmigo en el camino que he andado.

4 A nd they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

Ellos entregaron a Jacob todos los dioses ajenos que tenían en su poder y los zarcillos que llevaban en sus orejas, y Jacob los escondió debajo de una encina que había junto a Siquem.

5 A nd they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

Cuando salieron, el terror de Dios cayó sobre las ciudades de sus alrededores, y no persiguieron a los hijos de Jacob.

6 S o Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

Llegó Jacob a Luz, es decir, a Bet-el, que está en tierra de Canaán, él y todo el pueblo que con él estaba.

7 A nd he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

Edificó allí un altar y llamó al lugar «El-bet-el», porque allí se le había aparecido Dios cuando huía de su hermano.

8 B ut Deborah, Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.

Entonces murió Débora, nodriza de Rebeca, y fue sepultada al pie de Bet-el, debajo de una encina, la cual fue llamada «Alón-bacut».

9 A nd God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.

Se le apareció otra vez Dios a Jacob a su regreso de Padan-aram, y lo bendijo.

10 A nd God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.

Le dijo Dios: «Tu nombre es Jacob; pero ya no te llamarás Jacob, sino que tu nombre será Israel.» Y lo llamó Israel.

11 A nd God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

También le dijo Dios: «Yo soy el Dios omnipotente: crece y multiplícate; una nación y un conjunto de naciones saldrán de ti, y reyes saldrán de tus entrañas.

12 A nd the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

La tierra que he dado a Abraham y a Isaac te la daré a ti, y a tu descendencia después de ti.»

13 A nd God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

Y se fue Dios de su lado, del lugar desde el cual había hablado con él.

14 A nd Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.

Jacob erigió entonces una señal en el lugar donde había hablado con él, una señal de piedra; derramó sobre ella una libación y echó sobre ella aceite.

15 A nd Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel.

Y Jacob llamó Bet-el a aquel lugar donde Dios le había hablado. Muerte de Raquel

16 A nd they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.

Partieron de Bet-el, y cuando aún faltaba como media legua para llegar a Efrata, Raquel dio a luz, pero tuvo un mal parto.

17 A nd it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.

Aconteció que, como había trabajo en el parto, la partera le dijo: «No temas, porque también tendrás este hijo.»

18 A nd it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.

Ella, al salírsele el alma —pues murió—, le puso por nombre Benoni; pero su padre lo llamó Benjamín.

19 A nd Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

Así murió Raquel, y fue sepultada en el camino de Efrata, la cual es Belén.

20 A nd Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

Levantó Jacob un pilar sobre su sepultura, y ésta es la señal de la sepultura de Raquel hasta hoy.

21 A nd Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

Israel salió de allí y plantó su tienda más allá de Migdal-edar.

22 A nd it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:

Aconteció que, cuando habitaba Israel en aquella tierra, Rubén fue y durmió con Bilha, la concubina de su padre; de esto se enteró Israel. Los hijos de Jacob Los hijos de Israel fueron doce.

23 T he sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:

Hijos de Lea: Rubén, primogénito de Jacob, Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón.

24 T he sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:

Hijos de Raquel: José y Benjamín.

25 A nd the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:

Hijos de Bilha, sierva de Raquel: Dan y Neftalí.

26 A nd the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid: Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.

Hijos de Zilpa, sierva de Lea: Gad y Aser. Éstos fueron los hijos de Jacob, que le nacieron en Padan-aram. Muerte de Isaac

27 A nd Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

Fue Jacob junto a Isaac, su padre, a Mamre, a la ciudad de Arba, que es Hebrón, donde habitaron Abraham e Isaac.

28 A nd the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.

Los días de Isaac fueron ciento ochenta años.

29 A nd Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

Exhaló Isaac el espíritu; murió y fue reunido a su pueblo, viejo y lleno de días. Lo sepultaron sus hijos Esaú y Jacob.
