1 R espondió Bildad, el suhita, y dijo:

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

2 « ¿Hasta cuándo hablarás tales cosas y las palabras de tu boca serán como un viento impetuoso?

How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

3 ¿ Acaso torcerá Dios el derecho o pervertirá el Todopoderoso la justicia?

Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

4 S i tus hijos pecaron contra él, él les hizo cargar con su pecado.

If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

5 S i tú desde temprano buscas a Dios y ruegas al Todopoderoso;

If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;

6 s i eres puro y recto, ciertamente él velará por ti y hará prosperar la morada de tu justicia.

If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

7 Y aunque tu principio haya sido pequeño, tu estado, al final, será engrandecido.

Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

8 » Pregunta tú ahora a las generaciones pasadas y disponte a interrogar a los padres de ellas;

For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

9 p ues nosotros somos de ayer y nada sabemos, ya que nuestros días sobre la tierra son como una sombra.

(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

10 ¿ No te enseñarán ellos, te hablarán y sacarán palabras de su corazón?

Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

11 » ¿Crece el junco donde no hay lodo? ¿Crece el prado donde no hay agua?

Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?

12 C on todo, aun en su verdor y sin haber sido cortado se seca antes que toda otra hierba.

Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

13 T ales son los caminos de todos los que se olvidan de Dios; y así perecerá la esperanza del impío,

So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

14 p orque su esperanza es apenas como un hilo, y su confianza, como una tela de araña.

Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

15 S i se apoya en su casa, ella no permanecerá en pie; si se agarra a ella, no resistirá.

He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

16 E s como un árbol que está verde plantado al sol, y cuyos renuevos salen por encima de su huerto;

He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

17 s e van entretejiendo sus raíces junto a una fuente y se enlazan hasta llegar al lugar pedregoso.

His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.

18 P ero si lo arrancan de su lugar, éste lo negará, diciendo: “Nunca te había visto.”

If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

19 C iertamente así será el gozo de su camino, y otros nacerán del polvo.

Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

20 » Dios no desecha al íntegro ni ofrece apoyo a la mano del maligno.

Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

21 É l llenará aún tu boca de risas, y tus labios de júbilo.

Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.

22 L os que te aborrecen serán cubiertos de confusión: la morada de los impíos perecerá.»

They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
