Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

2 ¿ Le pondrías una soga en las narices? ¿Perforarías con un garfio su quijada?

Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

3 ¿ Multiplicará ruegos él delante de ti? ¿Te hablará con palabras lisonjeras?

Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

4 ¿ Hará un pacto contigo para que lo tomes por esclavo para siempre?

Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

5 ¿ Jugarás con él como con un pájaro? ¿Lo atarás para tus niñas?

Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

6 ¿ Harán banquete con él los compañeros? ¿Lo repartirán entre los mercaderes?

Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

7 ¿ Cortarás tú con cuchillo su piel, o con arpón de pescadores su cabeza?

Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

8 P on tu mano sobre él: recordarás luego la lucha y no volverás a hacerlo.

Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.

9 E n cuanto a él, toda esperanza queda burlada, porque aun a su sola vista la gente se desmaya.

Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

10 Y nadie hay tan osado que lo despierte; ¿quién podrá permanecer delante de mí?

None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

11 P orque ¿quién me ha dado a mí primero, para que yo restituya? ¡Todo lo que hay debajo del cielo es mío!

Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

12 » No guardaré silencio sobre sus miembros, ni sobre sus fuerzas y la gracia de su disposición.

I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

13 ¿ Quién levantará la cubierta que lo reviste? ¿Quién se acercará a su doble coraza?

Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?

14 ¿ Quién abrirá la puerta de sus fauces? ¡Las hileras de sus dientes espantan!

Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.

15 S u espalda está cubierta de fuertes escudos, soldados estrechamente entre sí.

His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.

16 E l uno se junta con el otro de modo que el viento no pasa entre ellos.

One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.

17 U nido está el uno con el otro, trabados entre sí, no se pueden separar.

They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.

18 C uando estornuda, lanza relámpagos; sus ojos son como los párpados del alba.

By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

19 D e su boca salen llamaradas; centellas de fuego brotan de ella.

Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.

20 D e sus narices sale humo, como de una olla o caldero que hierve.

Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

21 S u aliento enciende los carbones; de su boca salen llamas.

His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

22 E n su cerviz está su fuerza, y delante de él cunde el desaliento.

In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.

23 A un las partes más tiernas de su carne están endurecidas, son firmes en él, no se mueven.

The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.

24 F irme es como una piedra su corazón, fuerte como la piedra de un molino.

His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.

25 C uando se levanta, los fuertes tienen temor y retroceden a causa de su desfallecimiento.

When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.

26 A unque la espada lo alcance, no se le clavará; ni tampoco la lanza, el dardo o la jabalina.

The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.

27 P ara él, el hierro es como paja y el bronce como madera podrida.

He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.

28 L a saeta no lo hace huir y las piedras de honda le son como paja.

The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

29 T oda arma le es como hojarasca y se burla del silbido de la jabalina.

Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.

30 P or debajo tiene escamas puntiagudas que imprimen su huella en el barro.

Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.

31 H ace hervir como una olla las aguas profundas y las vuelve como una olla de ungüento.

He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

32 E n pos de sí resplandece su estela, hasta parecer cano el abismo.

He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.

33 N o hay en la tierra quien se le asemeje; es un animal hecho exento de temor.

Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.

34 M enosprecia toda arrogancia y es rey sobre toda otra fiera.»

He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
