1 ¿ Pescarás tú al cocodrilo con anzuelo, O sujetarás su lengua con una cuerda?

Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

2 ¿ Atravesarás con un junco sus narices, Y horadarás con garfio su quijada?

Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

3 ¿ Multiplicará él ruegos para contigo? ¿Te hablará él con timidez?

Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

4 ¿ Hará pacto contigo Para que lo tomes por siervo perpetuo?

Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

5 ¿ Jugarás con él como con pájaro, Lo atarás para juguete de tus niñas?

Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

6 ¿ Harán de él banquete los compañeros? ¿Lo repartirán entre los mercaderes?

Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

7 ¿ Cortarás tú con cuchillo su piel, O con arpón de pescadores su cabeza?

Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

8 P on tu mano sobre él; Te acordarás de la batalla, nunca más volverás.

Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.

9 H e aquí que la esperanza acerca de él será burlada, Porque aun a su sola vista se desmayarán.

Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

10 N adie hay tan osado que lo despierte; ¿Quién, pues, podrá estar delante de mí?

None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

11 ¿ Quién me ha dado a mí primero, para que yo restituya? Todo lo que hay debajo del cielo es mío.

Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

12 N o guardaré silencio sobre sus miembros, Ni sobre sus fuerzas y la gracia de su disposición.

I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

13 ¿ Quién descubrirá la delantera de su vestidura? ¿Quién se acercará a él con su freno doble?

Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?

14 ¿ Quién abrirá las puertas de su rostro? Las hileras de sus dientes espantan.

Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.

15 L a gloria de su vestido son escudos fuertes, Cerrados entre sí estrechamente.

His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.

16 E l uno se junta con el otro, Que viento no entra entre ellos.

One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.

17 P egado está el uno con el otro; Están trabados entre sí, que no se pueden apartar.

They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.

18 C on sus estornudos lanza destellos, Y sus ojos son como los párpados del alba.

By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

19 D e su boca salen hachones de fuego; Centellas de fuego saltan.

Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.

20 D e sus narices sale humo, Como de una olla o caldero que hierve.

Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

21 S u aliento enciende los carbones, Y de su boca sale llama.

His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

22 E n su cerviz está la fuerza, Y delante de él se esparce el desaliento.

In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.

23 L as partes más flojas de su carne están endurecidas; Están en él firmes, y no se mueven.

The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.

24 S u corazón es duro como una roca, Y fuerte como piedra de molino.

His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.

25 C uando se yergue, tienen temor los fuertes, Y a causa de su consternación quedan fuera de sí.

When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.

26 C uando alguno lo alcanza, Ni espada, ni lanza, ni dardo, ni coselete se le resiste.

The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.

27 E stima como paja el hierro, Y el bronce como leño podrido.

He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.

28 N o le hacen huir las saetas; Las piedras de honda le son como paja.

The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

29 T iene toda arma por hojarasca, Y del blandir de la jabalina se burla.

Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.

30 P or debajo tiene agudas conchas; Pasa como un trillo por el barro.

Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.

31 H ace hervir como una olla el mar profundo, Y lo vuelve como un gran pebetero.

He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

32 E n pos de sí deja una estela luminosa sobre el abismo, Como una melena blanca.

He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.

33 N o hay sobre la tierra quien se le parezca; Pues fue hecho exento de temor.

Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.

34 D esafía a todo ser altivo; Es rey sobre todas las fieras.

He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
