1 P alabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías, con motivo de la sequía.

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth.

2 S e enlutó Judá, y sus puertas languidecen; se sentaron tristes en tierra, y subió el clamor de Jerusalén.

Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

3 L os nobles enviaron sus criados a traer agua; vinieron a los aljibes, y no hallaron agua; volvieron con sus vasijas vacías; se avergonzaron, se confundieron, y cubrieron sus cabezas.

And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.

4 P orque se resquebrajó la tierra por no haber llovido en el país, están confundidos los labradores, cubren sus cabezas.

Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

5 A un las ciervas en los campos paren y dejan la cría, porque no hay hierba.

Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

6 Y los asnos monteses se ponen en las alturas, aspiran el viento como chacales; sus ojos se debilitan porque no hay hierba.

And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

7 A unque nuestras iniquidades testifican contra nosotros, oh Jehová, actúa por amor de tu nombre; porque nuestras apostasías se han multiplicado, contra ti hemos pecado.

O Lord, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.

8 O h tú, esperanza de Israel, Salvador suyo en el tiempo de la aflicción, ¿por qué te has hecho como forastero en la tierra, y como caminante que se retira para pasar la noche?

O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

9 ¿ Por qué eres como hombre atónito, y como valiente que no puede librar? Sin embargo, tú estás entre nosotros, oh Jehová, y sobre nosotros es invocado tu nombre; no nos desampares.

Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O Lord, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.

10 A sí ha dicho Jehová acerca de este pueblo: Se deleitaron en vagar, y no dieron reposo a sus pies; por tanto, Jehová no se agrada de ellos; se acordará ahora de su maldad, y castigará sus pecados.

Thus saith the Lord unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the Lord doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.

11 M e dijo Jehová: No ruegues por este pueblo para su bien.

Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

12 C uando ayunen, yo no oiré su clamor, y cuando ofrezcan holocausto y ofrenda no lo aceptaré, sino que los consumiré con espada, con hambre y con pestilencia.

When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

13 Y yo dije: ¡Ah!; ¡ah, Señor Jehová! He aquí que los profetas les dicen: No veréis espada, ni habrá hambre entre vosotros, sino que en este lugar os daré paz verdadera.

Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.

14 M e dijo entonces Jehová: Mentiras profetizan los profetas en mi nombre; no los envié, ni les mandé, ni les hablé; visión mentirosa, adivinación, vanidad y engaño de su propio corazón os profetizan.

Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

15 P or tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: En cuanto a los profetas que profetizan en mi nombre, los cuales yo no envié, y que dicen: Ni espada ni hambre habrá en esta tierra; con espada y con hambre serán consumidos esos profetas.

Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

16 Y el pueblo a quien profetizan será echado en las calles de Jerusalén por causa del hambre y de la espada, y no habrá quien los entierre a ellos, a sus mujeres, a sus hijos y a sus hijas; pues sobre ellos derramaré su maldad.

And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

17 Y les dirás esta palabra: Derramen mis ojos lágrimas noche y día, y no cesen; porque con gran quebrantamiento es quebrantada la virgen hija de mi pueblo, con azote muy doloroso.

Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

18 S i salgo al campo, he aquí los muertos a espada; y si entro en la ciudad, he aquí los enfermos de hambre; porque tanto el profeta como el sacerdote andan vagando en la tierra, y no se han enterado.

If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.

19 ¿ Has desechado enteramente a Judá? ¿Ha aborrecido tu alma a Sión? ¿Por qué nos hiciste herir sin que haya remedio? Esperábamos paz, pero no hubo bien; tiempo de curación, y he aquí terror.

Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!

20 R econocemos, oh Jehová, nuestra impiedad, la iniquidad de nuestros padres; porque contra ti hemos pecado.

We acknowledge, O Lord, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.

21 P or amor de tu nombre no nos deseches, ni deshonres el trono de tu gloria; acuérdate, no invalides tu pacto con nosotros.

Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.

22 ¿ Hay entre los ídolos de las naciones quien haga llover?; o ¿darán de sí los cielos lluvias? ¿No eres tú, oh Jehová, nuestro Dios, y en ti esperamos? Pues tú has hecho todas estas cosas.

Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O Lord our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
