1 O íd, hijos, la enseñanza de un padre, Y estad atentos, para que aprendáis cordura.

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2 P orque os doy buena enseñanza; No desamparéis mis instrucciones.

For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

3 P orque yo también fui hijo de mi padre, Preferido tiernamente de mi madre.

For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4 Y él me enseñaba, y me decía: Retenga tu corazón mis razones, Guarda mis mandamientos, y vivirás.

He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

5 A dquiere sensatez, adquiere inteligencia; No te olvides ni te apartes de los dichos de mi boca;

Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6 N o la dejes, y ella te guardará; Ámala, y te protegerá.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 E l principio de la sabiduría es: adquirir sabiduría; Y aun a costa de todas tus posesiones adquiere inteligencia.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8 E ngrandécela, y ella te engrandecerá; Ella te honrará, cuando tú la hayas abrazado.

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9 A dorno de gracia pondrá sobre tu cabeza; Corona de hermosura te regalará.

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

10 O ye, hijo mío, y recibe mis razones, Y se te multiplicarán los años de vida.

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

11 P or el camino de la sabiduría te he encaminado, Y por veredas derechas te he enseñado a andar.

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

12 C uando camines, no se enredarán tus pasos, Y si corres, no tropezarás.

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13 R etén el consejo, no lo dejes; Guárdalo, porque eso es tu vida.

Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

14 N o entres por la vereda de los impíos, Ni vayas por el camino de los malos.

Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

15 E vítalo, no pases por él; Apártate de él, pasa de largo.

Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16 P orque no duermen ellos si no obran el mal, Y pierden el sueño si no han hecho caer a alguno.

For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17 P ues su pan es pan de maldad, y beben vino de violencia;

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

18 M as la senda de los justos es como la luz de la aurora, Que va en aumento hasta llegar a pleno día.

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19 E l camino de los impíos es como la oscuridad; No saben en qué tropiezan.

The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

20 H ijo mío, está atento a mis palabras; Inclina tu oído a mis razones.

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 N o se aparten de tus ojos; Guárdalas en medio de tu corazón;

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 P orque son vida para los que las hallan, Y medicina para todo su cuerpo.

For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23 P or encima de todo, guarda tu corazón; Porque de él mana la vida.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24 A parta de ti la falsedad de la boca, Y aleja de ti la iniquidad de los labios.

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

25 T us ojos miren de frente, Y diríjanse tus párpados hacia lo que tienes delante.

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26 E xamina la senda de tus pies, Y todos tus caminos sean rectos.

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 N o te desvíes a la derecha ni a la izquierda; Aparta tu pie del mal.

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
