1 P erece el justo, y no hay quien piense en ello; y los piadosos son arrebatados, y no hay quien entienda que de delante de la aflicción es recogido el justo.

The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

2 E ntra en la paz; descansan en sus lechos todos los que andan rectamente.

He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

3 M as vosotros llegaos acá, hijos de la hechicera, linaje del adúltero y de la fornicaria.

But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore.

4 ¿ De quién os estáis burlando? ¿Contra quién ensancháis la boca, y sacáis la lengua? ¿No sois vosotros hijos de pecado, generación mentirosa,

Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood.

5 q ue os enfervorizáis con los ídolos, debajo de todo árbol frondoso, que sacrificáis los hijos en los valles, debajo de los peñascos?

Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?

6 E n las piedras lisas del valle está tu parte; ellas, ellas son tu suerte; y a ellas derramaste libación, y ofreciste presente. ¿Acaso me voy a calmar con estas cosas?

Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?

7 S obre monte alto y empinado pusiste tu cama; allí también subiste a ofrecer sacrificio.

Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.

8 Y tras la puerta y el umbral pusiste tu emblema; porque a otro, y no a mí, te descubriste, y subiste, y ensanchaste tu cama, e hiciste con ellos pacto; amaste su cama dondequiera que veías el gesto de su mano.

Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast discovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it.

9 Y fuiste al rey con ungüento, y multiplicaste tus perfumes, y enviaste tus embajadores lejos, y los hiciste bajar hasta la profundidad del Seol.

And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase thyself even unto hell.

10 T e cansaste de tanto caminar, pero no dijiste: Me rindo; hallaste nuevo vigor en tu mano; por tanto, no te desalentaste.

Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieved.

11 ¿ De quién te asustaste y temiste, que has faltado a la fe, y no te has acordado de mí, ni te vino al pensamiento? ¿No es porque he guardado silencio desde tiempos antiguos, por lo que nunca me has temido?

And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not?

12 Y o voy a denunciar tu justicia y tus obras, que no te aprovecharán.

I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for they shall not profit thee.

13 C uando clames, que te libren todos tus ídolos; pero a todos ellos se los llevará el viento, un soplo los arrebatará; mas el que en mí confía poseerá la tierra y heredará mi santo monte.

When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain;

14 E ntonces se dirá: Allanad, allanad; barred el camino, quitad los tropiezos del camino de mi pueblo.

And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumblingblock out of the way of my people.

15 P orque así dice el Alto y Sublime, el que habita la eternidad, y cuyo nombre es el Santo: Yo habito en la altura y la santidad, y con el de espíritu contrito y humilde, para reavivar el espíritu de los humildes, y para vivificar el corazón de los quebrantados.

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

16 P orque no contenderé para siempre, ni para siempre me enojaré; pues desmayaría ante mí el espíritu, y las almas que yo he creado.

For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

17 P or la iniquidad de su codicia me enojé, y le herí, escondí mi rostro y me indigné; y él siguió rebelde por el camino de su corazón.

For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.

18 H e visto sus caminos; pero le sanaré, y le guiaré, y le daré consuelo a él y a sus enlutados;

I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.

19 p roduciré fruto de labios: Paz, paz al que está lejos y al cercano, dijo Jehová; y lo sanaré.

I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him.

20 P ero los impíos son como el mar en tempestad, que no puede estarse quieto, y sus aguas arrojan cieno y lodo.

But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.

21 N o hay paz, dice mi Dios, para los malvados.

There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
