1 Y ésta es la palabra que por el evangelio os ha sido anunciada. Desechando, pues, toda malicia, todo engaño, hipocresías, envidias, y todas las detracciones,

Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

2 d esead, como niños recién nacidos, la leche espiritual no adulterada, para que por ella crezcáis para salvación,

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

3 s i es que habéis gustado la benignidad del Señor. La piedra viva

If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

4 A cercándoos a él, piedra viva, desechada ciertamente por los hombres, mas ante Dios escogida y preciosa,

To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

5 v osotros también, como piedras vivas, sed edificados como casa espiritual y sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales aceptables a Dios por medio de Jesucristo.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

6 P or lo cual también está contenido en la Escritura: He aquí, pongo en Sión la principal piedra del ángulo, escogida, preciosa; Y el que crea en él, no será avergonzado.

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

7 P ara vosotros, pues, los que creéis, es de gran valor; pero para los que no creen, La piedra que los edificadores desecharon, Ha venido a ser la cabeza del ángulo;

Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

8 y : Piedra de tropiezo, y roca de escándalo, pues ellos tropiezan en la palabra, siendo desobedientes; a lo cual fueron también destinados. El pueblo escogido

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

9 M as vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido para posesión de Dios, para que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable;

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

10 l os que en otro tiempo no erais pueblo, pero que ahora sois pueblo de Dios; que en otro tiempo no habíais alcanzado misericordia, pero ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia. Conducta de los creyentes en el mundo

Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

11 A mados, yo os ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que os abstengáis de los deseos carnales que batallan contra el alma,

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

12 m anteniendo buena vuestra manera de vivir entre los gentiles; para que en lo que os calumnian como a malhechores, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación, al observar vuestras buenas obras.

Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

13 P or causa del Señor, someteos a toda institución humana, ya sea al rey, como a superior,

Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

14 y a a los gobernadores, como enviados por él para castigo de los malhechores y alabanza de los que hacen el bien.

Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

15 P orque esta es la voluntad de Dios: que haciendo el bien, hagáis enmudecer la ignorancia de los hombres insensatos;

For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

16 c omo libres, pero no como los que tienen la libertad como pretexto para encubrir la malicia, sino como siervos de Dios.

As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

17 H onrad a todos. Amad la fraternidad. Temed a Dios. Honrad al rey.

Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

18 C riados, estad sometidos con todo respeto a vuestros amos; no solamente a los buenos y afables, sino también a los difíciles de soportar.

Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

19 P orque esto merece aprobación, si alguno a causa de la conciencia delante de Dios, soporta molestias padeciendo injustamente.

For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

20 P ues ¿qué gloria es, si pecando sois abofeteados, y lo soportáis? Mas si haciendo lo bueno sufrís, y lo soportáis, esto ciertamente es aprobado delante de Dios.

For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

21 P ues para esto fuisteis llamados; porque también Cristo padeció por vosotros, dejándoos ejemplo, para que sigáis sus pisadas;

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

22 e l cual no hizo pecado, ni se halló ningún engaño en su boca;

Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23 q uien cuando le maldecían, no respondía con maldición; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino que encomendaba la causa al que juzga justamente;

Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24 q uien llevó él mismo nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero, para que nosotros, muriendo a los pecados, vivamos para la justicia; y por cuya herida fuisteis sanados.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

25 P orque erais como ovejas descarriadas, pero ahora os habéis vuelto al Pastor y Guardián de vuestras almas.

For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
