1 E l anciano a la señora elegida y a sus hijos, a quienes yo amo en la verdad; y no sólo yo, sino también todos los que han llegado a conocer la verdad,

The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

2 a causa de la verdad que permanece en nosotros, y estará para siempre con nosotros:

For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

3 G racia, misericordia y paz serán con vosotros de parte de Dios Padre y del Señor Jesucristo, Hijo del Padre, en verdad y en amor. Andando en la verdad

Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4 M ucho me alegré al encontrar a algunos de tus hijos andando en la verdad, conforme al mandamiento que recibimos del Padre.

I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

5 Y ahora te ruego, señora, no como escribiéndote un nuevo mandamiento, sino el que hemos tenido desde el principio, que nos amemos unos a otros.

And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 Y éste es el amor, que andemos según sus mandamientos. Éste es el mandamiento, tal como lo oísteis desde el principio, para que andéis en él.

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

7 P orque muchos engañadores han salido al mundo, que no confiesan que Jesucristo ha venido en carne. He aquí el engañador y el anticristo.

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8 M irad por vosotros mismos, para que no perdáis el fruto de vuestro trabajo, sino que recibáis plena recompensa.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

9 C ualquiera que se aleja, y no persevera en la doctrina de Cristo, no tiene a Dios; el que persevera en la doctrina de Cristo, ése tiene tanto al Padre como al Hijo.

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 S i alguno viene a vosotros, y no trae esta doctrina, no lo recibáis en casa, ni le saludéis.

If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11 P orque el que le saluda, participa en sus malas obras. Espero ir a vosotros

For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

12 T engo muchas cosas que escribiros, pero no he querido hacerlo por medio de papel y tinta, pues espero ir a vosotros y hablar cara a cara, para que nuestro gozo sea completo.

Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

13 L os hijos de tu hermana, la elegida, te saludan. Amén.

The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
