1 E l anciano a la señora escogida y a sus hijos, a quienes amo en verdad, y no sólo yo, sino también todos los que conocen la verdad,

The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

2 a causa de la verdad que permanece en nosotros y que estará con nosotros para siempre:

For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

3 G racia, misericordia y paz serán con nosotros, de Dios Padre y de Jesucristo, Hijo del Padre, en verdad y amor. Exhortaciones

Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4 M ucho me alegré al encontrar algunos de tus hijos andando en la verdad, tal como hemos recibido mandamiento del Padre.

I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

5 Y ahora te ruego, señora, no como escribiéndote un nuevo mandamiento, sino el que hemos tenido desde el principio, que nos amemos unos a otros.

And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 Y este es el amor: que andemos conforme a sus mandamientos. Este es el mandamiento tal como lo habéis oído desde el principio, para que andéis en él.

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

7 P ues muchos engañadores han salido al mundo que no confiesan que Jesucristo ha venido en carne. Ese es el engañador y el anticristo.

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8 T ened cuidado para que no perdáis lo que hemos logrado, sino que recibáis abundante recompensa.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

9 T odo el que se desvía y no permanece en la enseñanza de Cristo, no tiene a Dios; el que permanece en la enseñanza tiene tanto al Padre como al Hijo.

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 S i alguno viene a vosotros y no trae esta enseñanza, no lo recibáis en casa, ni lo saludéis,

If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11 p ues el que lo saluda participa en sus malas obras. Despedida

For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

12 A unque tengo muchas cosas que escribiros, no quiero hacerlo con papel y tinta, sino que espero ir a vosotros y hablar cara a cara, para que vuestro gozo sea completo.

Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

13 T e saludan los hijos de tu hermana escogida.

The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
