1 S ométase toda persona a las autoridades que gobiernan; porque no hay autoridad sino de Dios, y las que existen, por Dios son constituidas.

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 P or consiguiente, el que resiste a la autoridad, a lo ordenado por Dios se ha opuesto; y los que se han opuesto, sobre sí recibirán condenación.

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 P orque los gobernantes no son motivo de temor para los de buena conducta, sino para el que hace el mal. ¿Deseas, pues, no temer a la autoridad? Haz lo bueno y tendrás elogios de ella,

For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 p ues es para ti un ministro de Dios para bien. Pero si haces lo malo, teme; porque no en vano lleva la espada, pues ministro es de Dios, un vengador que castiga al que practica lo malo.

For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 P or tanto, es necesario someterse, no sólo por razón del castigo, sino también por causa de la conciencia.

Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

6 P ues por esto también pagáis impuestos, porque los gobernantes son servidores de Dios, dedicados precisamente a esto.

For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

7 P agad a todos lo que debáis: al que impuesto, impuesto; al que tributo, tributo; al que temor, temor; al que honor, honor. El amor, cumplimiento de la ley

Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

8 N o debáis a nadie nada, sino el amaros unos a otros; porque el que ama a su prójimo, ha cumplido la ley.

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9 P orque esto: No cometeras adulterio, no mataras, no hurtaras, no codiciaras, y cualquier otro mandamiento, en estas palabras se resume: Amaras a tu projimo como a ti mismo.

For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 E l amor no hace mal al prójimo; por tanto, el amor es el cumplimiento de la ley. Se acerca el amanecer

Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

11 Y haced todo esto, conociendo el tiempo, que ya es hora de despertaros del sueño; porque ahora la salvación está más cerca de nosotros que cuando creímos.

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

12 L a noche está muy avanzada, y el día está cerca. Por tanto, desechemos las obras de las tinieblas y vistámonos con las armas de la luz.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 A ndemos decentemente, como de día, no en orgías y borracheras, no en promiscuidad sexual y lujurias, no en pleitos y envidias;

Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 a ntes bien, vestíos del Señor Jesucristo, y no penséis en proveer para las lujurias de la carne.

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
