Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

2 s egún el previo conocimiento de Dios Padre, por la obra santificadora del Espíritu, para obedecer a Jesucristo y ser rociados con su sangre: Que la gracia y la paz os sean multiplicadas. La esperanza viva del cristiano

Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

3 B endito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, quien según su gran misericordia, nos ha hecho nacer de nuevo a una esperanza viva, mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo de entre los muertos,

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 p ara obtener una herencia incorruptible, inmaculada, y que no se marchitará, reservada en los cielos para vosotros,

To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

5 q ue sois protegidos por el poder de Dios mediante la fe, para la salvación que está preparada para ser revelada en el último tiempo.

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 E n lo cual os regocijáis grandemente, aunque ahora, por un poco de tiempo si es necesario, seáis afligidos con diversas pruebas,

Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

7 p ara que la prueba de vuestra fe, más preciosa que el oro que perece, aunque probado por fuego, sea hallada que resulta en alabanza, gloria y honor en la revelación de Jesucristo;

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

8 a quien sin haber le visto, le amáis, y a quien ahora no veis, pero creéis en El, y os regocijáis grandemente con gozo inefable y lleno de gloria,

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

9 o bteniendo, como resultado de vuestra fe, la salvación de vuestras almas.

Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

10 A cerca de esta salvación, los profetas que profetizaron de la gracia que vendría a vosotros, diligentemente inquirieron e indagaron,

Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:

11 p rocurando saber qué persona o tiempo indicaba el Espíritu de Cristo dentro de ellos, al predecir los sufrimientos de Cristo y las glorias que seguirían.

Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

12 A ellos les fue revelado que no se servían a sí mismos, sino a vosotros, en estas cosas que ahora os han sido anunciadas mediante los que os predicaron el evangelio por el Espíritu Santo enviado del cielo; cosas a las cuales los ángeles anhelan mirar. Exhortación a la santidad

Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

13 P or tanto, ceñid vuestro entendimiento para la acción; sed sobrios en espíritu, poned vuestra esperanza completamente en la gracia que se os traerá en la revelación de Jesucristo.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

14 C omo hijos obedientes, no os conforméis a los deseos que antes teníais en vuestra ignorancia,

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:

15 s ino que así como aquel que os llamó es santo, así también sed vosotros santos en toda vuestra manera de vivir;

But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

16 p orque escrito está: Sed santos, porque Yo soy santo.

Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

17 Y si invocáis como Padre a aquel que imparcialmente juzga según la obra de cada uno, conducíos en temor durante el tiempo de vuestra peregrinación;

And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

18 s abiendo que no fuisteis redimidos de vuestra vana manera de vivir heredada de vuestros padres con cosas perecederas como oro o plata,

Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19 s ino con sangre preciosa, como de un cordero sin tacha y sin mancha, la sangre de Cristo.

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

20 P orque El estaba preparado desde antes de la fundación del mundo, pero se ha manifestado en estos últimos tiempos por amor a vosotros

Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

21 q ue por medio de El sois creyentes en Dios, que le resucitó de entre los muertos y le dio gloria, de manera que vuestra fe y esperanza sean en Dios. Exhortación al amor fraternal

Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

22 P uesto que en obediencia a la verdad habéis purificado vuestras almas para un amor sincero de hermanos, amaos unos a otros entrañablemente, de corazón puro.

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

23 P ues habéis nacido de nuevo, no de una simiente corruptible, sino de una que es incorruptible, es decir, mediante la palabra de Dios que vive y permanece.

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

24 P orque: Toda carne es como la hierba, y toda su gloria como la flor de la hierba. Secase la hierba, caese la flor,

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

25 m as la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre. Y esta es la palabra que os fue predicada.

But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
