1 E l se marchó de allí y llegó a su pueblo; y sus discípulos le siguieron.

And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

2 C uando llegó el día de reposo, comenzó a enseñar en la sinagoga; y muchos que le escuchaban se asombraban, diciendo: ¿Dónde obtuvo éste tales cosas, y cuál es esta sabiduría que le ha sido dada, y estos milagros que hace con sus manos?

And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

3 ¿ No es éste el carpintero, el hijo de María, y hermano de Jacobo, José, Judas y Simón ? ¿No están sus hermanas aquí con nosotros? Y se escandalizaban a causa de El.

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

4 Y Jesús les dijo: No hay profeta sin honra sino en su propia tierra, y entre sus parientes, y en su casa.

But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

5 Y no pudo hacer allí ningún milagro; sólo sanó a unos pocos enfermos sobre los cuales puso sus manos.

And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

6 Y estaba maravillado de la incredulidad de ellos. Y recorría las aldeas de alrededor enseñando. Jesús envía a los doce

And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

7 E ntonces llamó a los doce y comenzó a enviarlos de dos en dos, dándoles autoridad sobre los espíritus inmundos;

And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

8 y les ordenó que no llevaran nada para el camino, sino sólo un bordón; ni pan, ni alforja, ni dinero en el cinto;

And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

9 s ino calzados con sandalias. No llevéis dos túnicas

But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

10 — les dijo— y dondequiera que entréis en una casa, quedaos allí hasta que salgáis de la población.

And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.

11 Y en cualquier lugar que no os reciban ni os escuchen, al salir de allí, sacudid el polvo de la planta de vuestros pies en testimonio contra ellos.

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

12 Y saliendo, predicaban que todos se arrepintieran.

And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

13 Y echaban fuera muchos demonios, y ungían con aceite a muchos enfermos y los sanaban. Muerte de Juan el Bautista

And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

14 E l rey Herodes se enteró de esto, pues el nombre de Jesús se había hecho célebre, y la gente decía: Juan el Bautista ha resucitado de entre los muertos, por eso es que estos poderes milagrosos actúan en él.

And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

15 P ero otros decían: Es Elías. Y decían otros: Es un profeta, como uno de los profetas antiguos.

Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.

16 Y al oír esto Herodes, decía: Juan, a quien yo decapité, ha resucitado.

But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

17 P orque Herodes mismo había enviado a prender a Juan y lo había encadenado en la cárcel por causa de Herodías, mujer de su hermano Felipe, pues Herodes se había casado con ella.

For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.

18 P orque Juan le decía a Herodes: No te es lícito tener la mujer de tu hermano.

For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

19 Y Herodías le tenía rencor y deseaba matarlo, pero no podía,

Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:

20 p orque Herodes temía a Juan, sabiendo que era un hombre justo y santo, y lo mantenía protegido. Y cuando le oía se quedaba muy perplejo, pero le gustaba escucharlo.

For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

21 P ero llegó un día oportuno, cuando Herodes, siendo su cumpleaños, ofreció un banquete a sus nobles y comandantes y a los principales de Galilea;

And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;

22 y cuando la hija misma de Herodías entró y danzó, agradó a Herodes y a los que se sentaban a la mesa con él; y el rey dijo a la muchacha: Pídeme lo que quieras y te lo daré.

And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

23 Y le juró: Te daré lo que me pidas, hasta la mitad de mi reino.

And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

24 E lla salió y dijo a su madre: ¿Qué pediré? Y ella le respondió: La cabeza de Juan el Bautista.

And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

25 E nseguida ella se presentó apresuradamente ante el rey con su petición, diciendo: Quiero que me des ahora mismo la cabeza de Juan el Bautista en una bandeja.

And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

26 Y aunque el rey se puso muy triste, sin embargo a causa de sus juramentos y de los que se sentaban con él a la mesa, no quiso desairarla.

And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

27 Y al instante el rey envió a un verdugo y le ordenó que trajera la cabeza de Juan. Y él fue y lo decapitó en la cárcel,

And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

28 y trajo su cabeza en una bandeja, y se la dio a la muchacha, y la muchacha se la dio a su madre.

And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

29 C uando sus discípulos oyeron esto, fueron y se llevaron el cuerpo y le dieron sepultura. Alimentación de los cinco mil

And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

30 L os apóstoles se reunieron con Jesús, y le informaron sobre todo lo que habían hecho y enseñado.

And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

31 Y El les dijo: Venid, apartaos de los demás a un lugar solitario y descansad un poco. (Porque había muchos que iban y venían, y ellos no tenían tiempo ni siquiera para comer.)

And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

32 Y se fueron en la barca a un lugar solitario, apartado.

And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

33 P ero la gente los vio partir, y muchos los reconocieron y juntos corrieron allá a pie de todas las ciudades, y llegaron antes que ellos.

And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.

34 A l desembarcar, El vio una gran multitud, y tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas sin pastor; y comenzó a enseñarles muchas cosas.

And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

35 Y cuando era ya muy tarde, sus discípulos se le acercaron, diciendo: El lugar está desierto y ya es muy tarde;

And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:

36 d espídelos para que vayan a los campos y aldeas de alrededor, y se compren algo de comer.

Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.

37 P ero respondiendo El, les dijo: Dadles vosotros de comer. Y ellos le dijeron: ¿ Quieres que vayamos y compremos doscientos denarios de pan y les demos de comer ?

He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?

38 Y El les dijo: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Id y ved. Y cuando se cercioraron le dijeron: Cinco, y dos peces.

He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

39 Y les mandó que todos se recostaran por grupos sobre la hierba verde.

And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

40 Y se recostaron por grupos de cien y de cincuenta.

And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

41 E ntonces El tomó los cinco panes y los dos peces, y levantando los ojos al cielo, los bendijo, y partió los panes y los iba dando a los discípulos para que se los sirvieran; también repartió los dos peces entre todos.

And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

42 T odos comieron y se saciaron.

And they did all eat, and were filled.

43 Y recogieron doce cestas llenas de los pedazos, y también de los peces.

And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.

44 L os que comieron los panes eran cinco mil hombres. Jesús anda sobre el mar

And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

45 E nseguida hizo que sus discípulos subieran a la barca y fueran delante de El al otro lado, a Betsaida, mientras El despedía a la multitud.

And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

46 Y después de despedirse de ellos, se fue al monte a orar.

And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.

47 A l anochecer, la barca estaba en medio del mar, y El estaba solo en tierra.

And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

48 Y al verlos remar fatigados, porque el viento les era contrario, como a la cuarta vigilia de la noche, fue hacia ellos andando sobre el mar, y quería pasarles de largo.

And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

49 P ero cuando ellos le vieron andando sobre el mar, pensaron que era un fantasma y se pusieron a gritar;

But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:

50 p orque todos le vieron y se turbaron. Pero enseguida El habló con ellos y les dijo: ¡Tened ánimo; soy yo, no temáis!

For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

51 Y subió con ellos a la barca, y el viento se calmó; y ellos estaban asombrados en gran manera,

And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

52 p orque no habían entendido lo de los panes, sino que su mente estaba embotada. Jesús en Genesaret

For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.

53 T erminada la travesía, llegaron a tierra en Genesaret, y atracaron.

And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.

54 C uando salieron de la barca, enseguida la gente reconoció a Jesús,

And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,

55 y recorrieron apresuradamente toda aquella comarca, y comenzaron a traer a los enfermos en sus camillas adonde oían decir que El estaba.

And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

56 Y dondequiera que El entraba en aldeas, ciudades o campos, ponían a los enfermos en las plazas, y le rogaban que les permitiera tocar siquiera el borde de su manto; y todos los que lo tocaban quedaban curados.

And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
