1 ¡ Ay de la ciudad sanguinaria, toda llena de mentira y de pillaje, que nunca cesa en su rapiña!

Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;

2 C hasquido de látigos, ruido del crujir de ruedas, galopar de caballos, y saltar de carros;

The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.

3 c arga de caballería, flamear de espadas, fulgor de lanzas; multitud de heridos, montones de muertos, innumerables cadáveres; tropiezan en los cadáveres.

The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

4 T odo por las muchas prostituciones de la ramera, la encantadora, la maestra de hechizos, que seduce a las naciones con sus prostituciones y a los pueblos con sus hechizos.

Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

5 H eme aquí contra ti —declara el Señor de los ejércitos. Levantaré tus faldas sobre tu rostro, y mostraré a las naciones tu desnudez y a los reinos tu vergüenza.

Behold, I am against thee, saith the Lord of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

6 E charé sobre ti inmundicias, te haré despreciable, y haré de ti un espectáculo.

And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.

7 Y sucederá que todo el que te vea huirá de ti, y dirá: “¡Asolada está Nínive! ¿Quién llorará por ella?” ¿Dónde te buscaré consoladores ?

And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

8 ¿ Eres tú mejor que Tebas, la asentada junto al Nilo, rodeada de aguas, cuyo baluarte era el mar y las aguas su muralla ?

Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?

9 E tiopía era su fortaleza, también Egipto, y no tenía límite. Fut y Libia estaban entre los que la ayudaban.

Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

10 S in embargo ella fue desterrada, llevada al cautiverio; también sus niños fueron estrellados en todas las bocacalles; sobre sus nobles echaron suertes, y todos sus principales fueron atados con cadenas.

Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

11 T ú también quedarás embriagada, estarás escondida; tú también buscarás refugio del enemigo.

Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.

12 T odas tus fortalezas son higueras cargadas de brevas; si se sacuden, caen en la boca de quien las va a comer.

All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.

13 H e aquí a tu pueblo: sólo mujeres en medio de ti. A tus enemigos se abren de par en par las puertas de tu tierra; el fuego devora tus cerrojos.

Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

14 A bastécete de agua para el asedio, refuerza tus fortalezas, métete en el lodo y pisa el barro, toma el molde de ladrillos.

Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.

15 A llí te consumirá el fuego, te destruirá la espada, te devorará como el pulgón. Multiplícate como el pulgón, multiplícate como la langosta.

There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.

16 H as multiplicado tus mercaderes más que las estrellas del cielo; el pulgón despoja y vuela.

Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and fleeth away.

17 T us oficiales son como la langosta, tus jefes como nubes de langostas posados sobre las tapias en un día de frío; sale el sol, y se van, y no se sabe donde están.

Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.

18 D uermen tus pastores, oh rey de Asiria; tus nobles reposan. Tu pueblo está disperso por los montes y no hay quien lo reúna.

Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.

19 N o hay remedio para tu quebranto, tu herida es incurable. Todos los que oigan noticias de ti batirán palmas sobre ti, porque ¿sobre quién no pasó continuamente tu maldad?

There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
