1 A sí dice Jehová: He aquí que yo levanto un viento destructor contra Babilonia, y contra los habitantes de Leb-Camay.

Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in the midst of them that rise up against me, a destroying wind;

2 Y enviaré a Babilonia extranjeros que la avienten, y vaciarán su tierra; porque se pondrán contra ella de todas partes en el día del mal.

And will send unto Babylon fanners, that shall fan her, and shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

3 E l que entesa el arco, no lo entese, ni se jacte de su cota de malla; no perdonéis a sus jóvenes, destruid completamente todo su ejército.

Against him that bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifteth himself up in his brigandine: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.

4 Y caerán muertos en la tierra de los caldeos, y alanceados en sus calles.

Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.

5 P orque Israel y Judá no han enviudado de su Dios, Jehová de los ejércitos; sus tierras estaban llenas de pecados contra el Santo de Israel.

For Israel hath not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the Lord of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.

6 H uid de en medio de Babilonia, y librad cada uno su vida, no perezcáis a causa de su maldad; porque es el tiempo de venganza de Jehová; él le dará su pago.

Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the Lord 's vengeance; he will render unto her a recompence.

7 C opa de oro fue Babilonia en la mano de Jehová, que embriagó a toda la tierra; de su vino bebieron las naciones; se enloquecieron, por tanto, las naciones.

Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord 's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

8 E n un momento cayó Babilonia, y se despedazó; lamentaos por ella; tomad bálsamo para su dolor, quizá sane.

Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

9 H emos intentado curar a Babilonia, y no ha sanado; dejadla, y vámonos cada uno a su tierra; porque ha llegado hasta el cielo el juicio contra ella, y se ha alzado hasta las nubes.

We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

10 J ehová hizo patente nuestra justicia; venid, y contemos en Sión la obra de Jehová nuestro Dios.

The Lord hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.

11 L impiad las saetas, llenad las aljabas; ha despertado Jehová el espíritu de los reyes de Media; porque contra Babilonia es su estrategia para destruirla; porque es la venganza de Jehová, la venganza por su templo.

Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: the Lord hath raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: for his device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.

12 L evantad bandera contra los muros de Babilonia, reforzad la guardia, poned centinelas, disponed celadas; porque tramó Jehová, y aun pondrá en efecto lo que ha dicho acerca de los moradores de Babilonia.

Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: for the Lord hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.

13 T ú, la que moras entre muchas aguas, rica en tesoros, ha venido tu fin, la medida de tu codicia.

O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, and the measure of thy covetousness.

14 J ehová de los ejércitos juró por sí mismo, diciendo: Yo te llenaré de hombres como de langostas, y levantarán contra ti gritería.

The Lord of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

15 E l que hizo la tierra con su poder, el que afianzó el mundo con su sabiduría, y extendió los cielos con su inteligencia.

He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.

16 A su voz se produce estruendo de aguas en los cielos, y hace subir las nubes de lo último de la tierra; él hace relámpagos para la lluvia, y saca el viento de sus depósitos.

When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.

17 T odo hombre está embrutecido para comprender; todo orfebre es avergonzado por su escultura, porque su ídolo es una mentira, no tienen aliento.

Every man is brutish by his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

18 V anidad son, obra digna de burla; en el tiempo del castigo perecerán.

They are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

19 N o es como ellos la porción de Jacob; porque él es el Formador de todo, e Israel es la tribu de su herencia; Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre.

The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the former of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the Lord of hosts is his name.

20 M artillo me sois, y armas de guerra; y por medio de ti quebrantaré naciones, y por medio de ti destruiré reinos.

Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

21 P or tu medio quebrantaré al caballo y a su jinete, y por medio de ti quebrantaré el carro y a los que en él montan.

And with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and his rider;

22 A simismo por tu medio quebrantaré hombres y mujeres, y por medio de ti quebrantaré viejos y jóvenes, y por tu medio quebrantaré al joven y a la doncella.

With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces old and young; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the maid;

23 T ambién quebrantaré por medio de ti al pastor y a su rebaño; quebrantaré por tu medio a labradores y a sus yuntas; a gobernadores y magistrados quebrantaré por medio de ti.

I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.

24 Y pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los moradores de Caldea, todo el mal que ellos hicieron en Sión delante de vuestros ojos, dice Jehová.

And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the Lord.

25 H e aquí, yo estoy contra ti, oh monte destructor, dice Jehová, que destruiste toda la tierra; y extenderé mi mano contra ti, y te haré rodar de las peñas, y te reduciré a monte quemado.

Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

26 Y nadie tomará de ti piedra para esquina, ni piedra para cimiento; sino que serás perpetuo asolamiento, ha dicho Jehová.

And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the Lord.

27 A lzad bandera en la tierra, tocad trompeta en las naciones, preparad a los pueblos contra ella; juntad contra ella los reinos de Ararat, de Miní y de Askenaz; estableced contra ella un general en jefe, haced subir caballos como langostas erizadas.

Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.

28 P reparad contra ella naciones; los reyes de Media, sus gobernadores y todos sus magistrados, y todo territorio de su dominio.

Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.

29 T emblará la tierra, y se retorcerá de dolor; porque se han cumplido contra Babilonia todos los planes de Jehová, para poner la tierra de Babilonia en soledad, para que no haya morador en ella.

And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the Lord shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

30 L os valientes de Babilonia dejaron de pelear, se encerraron en sus fortalezas; les faltaron las fuerzas, se volvieron como mujeres; incendiadas están sus casas, rotos sus cerrojos.

The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.

31 U n correo corre a dar alcance a otro correo, y un mensajero corre a dar alcance a otro mensajero, para anunciar al rey de Babilonia que su ciudad es tomada por todas partes.

One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to shew the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,

32 L os vados fueron tomados, y los baluartes quemados a fuego, y se consternaron los hombres de guerra.

And that the passages are stopped, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

33 P orque así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: La hija de Babilonia es como una era cuando es apisonada; de aquí a poco le vendrá el tiempo de la siega.

For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, it is time to thresh her: yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come.

34 M e devoró, me desmenuzó Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, y me dejó como vaso vacío; me tragó como dragón, llenó su vientre de mis delicadezas, y me dejó sin nada.

Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out.

35 S obre Babilonia caiga la violencia hecha a mí y a mi carne, dirá la moradora de Sión; y mi sangre caiga sobre los moradores de Caldea, dirá Jerusalén.

The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

36 P or tanto, así dice Jehová: He aquí que yo abogo por tu causa y haré venganza por ti; y secaré su mar, y haré que su manantial quede seco.

Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.

37 Y será Babilonia montones de ruinas, morada de chacales, espanto y burla, sin morador.

And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant.

38 T odos a una rugirán como leones; como cachorros de leones gruñirán.

They shall roar together like lions: they shall yell as lions' whelps.

39 E n medio de su calor les pondré banquetes, y haré que se embriaguen, para que acabe en fiebre su regocijo, y duerman eterno sueño y no despierten, dice Jehová.

In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the Lord.

40 L os haré traer como corderos al matadero, como carneros y machos cabríos.

I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

41 ¡ Cómo fue apresada Sesac, y fue tomada la que era alabada por toda la tierra! ¡Cómo vino a ser Babilonia objeto de espanto entre las naciones!

How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!

42 S ubió el mar sobre Babilonia; fue cubierta de la multitud de sus olas.

The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

43 S us ciudades han quedado hechas una desolación, tierra seca y desierto; tierra en que no morará nadie, ni pasará por ella hijo de hombre. La visita de Jehová a los ídolos

Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

44 Y castigaré a Bel en Babilonia, y sacaré de su boca lo que se ha tragado; y las naciones no vendrán más a él, y el muro de Babilonia caerá.

And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

45 S alid de en medio de ella, pueblo mío, y salvad cada uno su vida del ardor de la ira de Jehová.

My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and deliver ye every man his soul from the fierce anger of the Lord.

46 Y no desmaye vuestro corazón, ni temáis a causa del rumor que se oirá por la tierra; en un año vendrá el rumor, y después en otro año rumor, y habrá violencia en la tierra, dominador contra dominador.

And lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumour that shall be heard in the land; a rumour shall both come one year, and after that in another year shall come a rumour, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

47 P or tanto, he aquí vienen días en que yo castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia, y toda su tierra será avergonzada, y todos sus muertos caerán en medio de ella.

Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment upon the graven images of Babylon: and her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

48 L os cielos y la tierra y todo lo que hay en ellos cantarán de gozo sobre Babilonia; porque del norte vendrán contra ella saqueadores, dice Jehová.

Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the Lord.

49 C omo Babilonia ha hecho caer a los muertos de Israel, así caerán en Babilonia los muertos de toda la tierra.

As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth.

50 L os que escapasteis de la espada, andad, no os detengáis; acordaos desde lejos de Jehová, y que Jerusalén os venga en mientes.

Ye that have escaped the sword, go away, stand not still: remember the Lord afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

51 E stamos avergonzados, porque oímos la afrenta; la confusión cubrió nuestros rostros, porque penetraron extranjeros hasta los santuarios de la casa de Jehová.

We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the Lord 's house.

52 P or tanto, he aquí que vienen días, dice Jehová, en que yo visitaré sus ídolos, y en toda su tierra gemirán los heridos.

Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will do judgment upon her graven images: and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

53 A unque suba Babilonia hasta el cielo, y fortifique lo alto de su poder, de mí vendrán a ella saqueadores, dice Jehová.

Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the Lord.

54 ¡ Se oyen gritos desde Babilonia, y el gran quebrantamiento desde la tierra de los caldeos!

A sound of a cry cometh from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans:

55 P orque Jehová saquea a Babilonia, y quita de ella el gran ruido; y bramarán sus olas como sonido de muchas aguas; se escucha ya el estruendo de su clamor.

Because the Lord hath spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves do roar like great waters, a noise of their voice is uttered:

56 P orque viene el saqueador contra ella, contra Babilonia, y sus valientes son apresados; el arco de ellos es quebrado; porque Jehová, Dios de retribuciones, de cierto da la paga.

Because the spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the Lord God of recompences shall surely requite.

57 Y embriagaré a sus príncipes y a sus sabios, a sus gobernadores, a sus magistrados y a sus fuertes; y dormirán sueño eterno y no despertarán, dice el Rey, cuyo nombre es Jehová de los ejércitos.

And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.

58 A sí dice Jehová de los ejércitos: El muro ancho de Babilonia será derribado enteramente, y sus altas puertas serán quemadas a fuego; en vano trabajarán los pueblos, y las naciones se habrán fatigado sólo para el fuego.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary.

59 L a palabra que envió el profeta Jeremías a Seraías, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, cuando iba con Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia, en el cuarto año de su reinado. Y era Seraías el principal intendente.

The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And this Seraiah was a quiet prince.

60 E scribió, pues, Jeremías en un libro todo el mal que había de venir sobre Babilonia, todas las palabras que están escritas acerca de Babilonia.

So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon.

61 Y dijo Jeremías a Seraías: Cuando llegues a Babilonia, mira de leer todas estas cosas,

And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and shalt see, and shalt read all these words;

62 y di: Oh Jehová, tú has hablado acerca de este lugar que lo habías de destruir, hasta no quedar en él morador, ni hombre ni animal, sino que para siempre ha de ser asolado.

Then shalt thou say, O Lord, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

63 Y luego, cuando acabes de leer este libro, le atarás una piedra, y lo echarás en medio del Eufrates,

And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates:

64 y dirás: Así se hundirá Babilonia, y no se levantará más a causa del mal que yo traigo sobre ella. Hasta aquí son las palabras de Jeremías.

And thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her: and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.
