1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

Y ésta es la palabra que por el evangelio os ha sido anunciada. Desechando, pues, toda malicia, todo engaño, hipocresías, envidias, y todas las detracciones,

2 A s newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

desead, como niños recién nacidos, la leche espiritual no adulterada, para que por ella crezcáis para salvación,

3 I f so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

si es que habéis gustado la benignidad del Señor. La piedra viva

4 T o whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

Acercándoos a él, piedra viva, desechada ciertamente por los hombres, mas ante Dios escogida y preciosa,

5 Y e also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

vosotros también, como piedras vivas, sed edificados como casa espiritual y sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales aceptables a Dios por medio de Jesucristo.

6 W herefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Por lo cual también está contenido en la Escritura: He aquí, pongo en Sión la principal piedra del ángulo, escogida, preciosa; Y el que crea en él, no será avergonzado.

7 U nto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

Para vosotros, pues, los que creéis, es de gran valor; pero para los que no creen, La piedra que los edificadores desecharon, Ha venido a ser la cabeza del ángulo;

8 A nd a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

y: Piedra de tropiezo, y roca de escándalo, pues ellos tropiezan en la palabra, siendo desobedientes; a lo cual fueron también destinados. El pueblo escogido

9 B ut ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

Mas vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido para posesión de Dios, para que anunciéis las virtudes de aquel que os llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable;

10 W hich in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

los que en otro tiempo no erais pueblo, pero que ahora sois pueblo de Dios; que en otro tiempo no habíais alcanzado misericordia, pero ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia. Conducta de los creyentes en el mundo

11 D early beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

Amados, yo os ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que os abstengáis de los deseos carnales que batallan contra el alma,

12 H aving your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

manteniendo buena vuestra manera de vivir entre los gentiles; para que en lo que os calumnian como a malhechores, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación, al observar vuestras buenas obras.

13 S ubmit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

Por causa del Señor, someteos a toda institución humana, ya sea al rey, como a superior,

14 O r unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

ya a los gobernadores, como enviados por él para castigo de los malhechores y alabanza de los que hacen el bien.

15 F or so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

Porque esta es la voluntad de Dios: que haciendo el bien, hagáis enmudecer la ignorancia de los hombres insensatos;

16 A s free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

como libres, pero no como los que tienen la libertad como pretexto para encubrir la malicia, sino como siervos de Dios.

17 H onour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

Honrad a todos. Amad la fraternidad. Temed a Dios. Honrad al rey.

18 S ervants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

Criados, estad sometidos con todo respeto a vuestros amos; no solamente a los buenos y afables, sino también a los difíciles de soportar.

19 F or this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

Porque esto merece aprobación, si alguno a causa de la conciencia delante de Dios, soporta molestias padeciendo injustamente.

20 F or what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

Pues ¿qué gloria es, si pecando sois abofeteados, y lo soportáis? Mas si haciendo lo bueno sufrís, y lo soportáis, esto ciertamente es aprobado delante de Dios.

21 F or even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

Pues para esto fuisteis llamados; porque también Cristo padeció por vosotros, dejándoos ejemplo, para que sigáis sus pisadas;

22 W ho did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

el cual no hizo pecado, ni se halló ningún engaño en su boca;

23 W ho, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

quien cuando le maldecían, no respondía con maldición; cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino que encomendaba la causa al que juzga justamente;

24 W ho his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

quien llevó él mismo nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre el madero, para que nosotros, muriendo a los pecados, vivamos para la justicia; y por cuya herida fuisteis sanados.

25 F or ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Porque erais como ovejas descarriadas, pero ahora os habéis vuelto al Pastor y Guardián de vuestras almas.
