1 A nd in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

En aquellos días, al aumentar el número de los discípulos, hubo murmuración de los griegos contra los hebreos, de que las viudas de aquéllos eran desatendidas en la distribución diaria.

2 T hen the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

Entonces los doce convocaron a la multitud de los discípulos, y dijeron: No es conveniente que nosotros dejemos la palabra de Dios, para servir a las mesas.

3 W herefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Buscad, pues, hermanos, de entre vosotros a siete varones de buen testimonio, llenos del Espíritu Santo y de sabiduría, a quienes encarguemos de este trabajo.

4 B ut we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Y nosotros nos dedicaremos asiduamente a la oración y al ministerio de la palabra.

5 A nd the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

Agradó la propuesta a toda la multitud; y eligieron a Esteban, varón lleno de fe y del Espíritu Santo, a Felipe, a Prócoro, a Nicanor, a Timón, a Pármenas, y a Nicolás prosélito de Antioquía;

6 W hom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

a los cuales presentaron ante los apóstoles, quienes, después de orar, les impusieron las manos.

7 A nd the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Y crecía la palabra del Señor, y el número de los discípulos se multiplicaba en gran manera en Jerusalén; también muchos de los sacerdotes obedecían a la fe. Arresto de Esteban

8 A nd Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Y Esteban, lleno de gracia y de poder, hacía grandes prodigios y señales entre el pueblo.

9 T hen there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

Entonces se levantaron unos de la sinagoga llamada de los Libertos, y de los de Cirene, de Alejandría, de Cilicia y de Asia, y disputaban con Esteban.

10 A nd they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

Pero no podían resistir a la sabiduría y al Espíritu con que hablaba.

11 T hen they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

Entonces sobornaron a unos para que dijesen: Le hemos oído hablar palabras blasfemas contra Moisés y contra Dios.

12 A nd they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

Y soliviantaron al pueblo, a los ancianos y a los escribas; y cayendo sobre él, le arrebataron, y le trajeron al sanedrín.

13 A nd set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

Y presentaron testigos falsos que decían: Este hombre no cesa de hablar palabras contra este lugar santo y contra la ley;

14 F or we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

pues le hemos oído decir que ese Jesús de Nazaret destruirá este lugar, y cambiará las costumbres que nos legó Moisés.

15 A nd all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

Entonces todos los que estaban sentados en el sanedrín, al fijar los ojos en él, vieron su rostro como el rostro de un ángel.
