1 B ut Job answered and said,

Entonces respondió Job, y dijo:

2 H ear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.

Oíd atentamente mis palabras, Y sea esto el consuelo que me deis.

3 S uffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

Tened paciencia, y hablaré; Y después que haya hablado, escarnecedme.

4 A s for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?

¿Acaso me quejo yo de algún hombre? ¿Y por qué no se ha de angustiar mi espíritu?

5 M ark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.

Miradme, y espantaos, Y poned la mano sobre la boca.

6 E ven when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.

Aun yo mismo, cuando lo recuerdo, me horrorizo, Y el temblor estremece mi carne.

7 W herefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?

¿Por qué siguen con vida los impíos, Y hasta cuando envejecen, aún crecen en riquezas?

8 T heir seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.

Su descendencia se robustece en su presencia, Y sus renuevos están delante de sus ojos.

9 T heir houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.

Sus casas están a salvo de temor, Y no viene azote de Dios sobre ellos.

10 T heir bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.

Sus toros engendran, y no fallan; Paren sus vacas, y no malogran su cría.

11 T hey send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

Salen sus pequeñuelos como manada, Y sus hijos andan saltando.

12 T hey take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

Al son del tamboril y de la cítara saltan, Y se regocijan al son de la flauta.

13 T hey spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.

Pasan sus días en prosperidad, Y descienden en paz al Seol.

14 T herefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.

Y, sin embargo, le dicen a Dios: Apártate de nosotros, Porque no queremos conocer tus caminos.

15 W hat is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

¿Quién es el Todopoderoso, para que le sirvamos? ¿Y de qué nos aprovechará que oremos a él?

16 L o, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

He aquí que su dicha no está en manos de ellos; Lejos esté de mí el consejo de los impíos.

17 H ow oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.

¿Cuántas veces es apagada la lámpara de los impíos, Y viene sobre ellos su quebranto, Y Dios en su ira les reparte dolores?

18 T hey are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.

¿Serán acaso como la paja delante del viento, Y como el tamo que arrebata el torbellino?

19 G od layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.

¿Guardará Dios para los hijos de ellos su violencia? ¡Que le dé su pago a él, para que aprenda!

20 H is eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

¡Vean sus ojos su quebranto, Y beba de la ira del Todopoderoso!

21 F or what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

Porque ¿qué le importará a él la suerte de su casa después de muerto, Cuando se haya acabado el número de sus meses?

22 S hall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.

¿Enseñará alguien a Dios sabiduría, Si él juzga a los más encumbrados?

23 O ne dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.

Hay quien muere en su pleno vigor, En el colmo de la dicha y de la paz;

24 H is breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.

Sus ijares están llenos de grasa, Y sus huesos bien regados de tuétano.

25 A nd another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.

En cambio, otro morirá en amargura de ánimo, Y sin haber comido jamás con gusto.

26 T hey shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

Pero igualmente yacerán ambos en el polvo, Y gusanos los cubrirán.

27 B ehold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.

He aquí, yo conozco vuestros pensamientos, Y las maquinaciones que contra mí forjáis.

28 F or ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?

Porque decís: ¿Qué queda de la casa del poderoso, Y qué de las tiendas en que moraban los impíos?

29 H ave ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,

¿No habéis preguntado a los que pasan por los caminos, Y no habéis conocido su respuesta,

30 T hat the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

Que el malo es preservado en el día de la destrucción? Guardado será en el día de la ira.

31 W ho shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?

¿Quién le denunciará en su cara su camino? Y de lo que él hizo, ¿quién le dará el pago?

32 Y et shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.

Porque llevado será al cementerio, Y sobre su mausoleo estarán velando.

33 T he clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

Los terrones del valle le cubrirán suavemente; Tras él marchará un enorme gentío, Y delante de él una multitud innumerable.

34 H ow then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?

¿Cómo, pues, me consoláis en vano, Viniendo a parar vuestras respuestas en falacia?
