1 T he Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,

Habló Jehová a Josué, diciendo:

2 S peak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

Habla a los hijos de Israel y diles: Señalaos las ciudades de refugio, de las cuales yo os hablé por medio de Moisés,

3 T hat the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

para que se acoja allí el homicida que haya matado a alguno por accidente y no a sabiendas; y os servirán de refugio contra el vengador de la sangre.

4 A nd when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

Y el que se acoja a alguna de aquellas ciudades, se presentará a la puerta de la ciudad, y expondrá su caso a los ancianos de aquella ciudad; y ellos le recibirán consigo dentro de la ciudad, y le darán lugar para que habite con ellos.

5 A nd if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.

Si el vengador de la sangre le sigue, no entregarán en su mano al homicida, por cuanto hirió a su prójimo por accidente, y no tuvo con él ninguna enemistad antes.

6 A nd he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

Y quedará en aquella ciudad hasta que comparezca en juicio delante de la congregación, y hasta la muerte del que esté como sumo sacerdote en aquel tiempo; entonces el homicida podrá volver a su ciudad y a su casa y a la ciudad de donde huyó.

7 A nd they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.

Entonces señalaron a Cedes en Galilea, en el monte de Neftalí, Siquem en el monte de Efraín, y Quiryat-arbá (que es Hebrón) en el monte de Judá.

8 A nd on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

Y al otro lado del Jordán al oriente de Jericó, señalaron a Béser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, Ramot en Galaad de la tribu de Gad, y Golán en Basán de la tribu de Manasés.

9 T hese were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

Éstas fueron las ciudades señaladas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero que morase entre ellos, para que se acogiese a ellas cualquiera que hiriese a alguno por accidente, a fin de que no muriese por mano del vengador de la sangre, hasta que compareciese delante de la congregación.
