1 F or this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

Porque este Melquisedec, rey de Salem, sacerdote del Dios Altísimo, que salió al encuentro de Abraham cuando éste volvía de la derrota de los reyes, y le bendijo,

2 T o whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

a quien asimismo dio Abraham los diezmos de todo; cuyo nombre significa primeramente Rey de justicia, y también Rey de Salem, esto es, Rey de paz;

3 W ithout father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

sin padre, sin madre, sin genealogía; que ni tiene principio de días, ni fin de vida, sino hecho semejante al Hijo de Dios, permanece sacerdote a perpetuidad.

4 N ow consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

Considerad, pues, cuán grande era éste, a quien aun Abraham el patriarca dio diezmos de lo mejor del botín.

5 A nd verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

Y en verdad los que de entre los hijos de Leví reciben el sacerdocio, tienen mandamiento de tomar del pueblo los diezmos según la ley, es decir, de sus hermanos, aunque éstos también hayan salido de los lomos de Abraham.

6 B ut he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

Pero aquel cuya genealogía no es contada de entre ellos, tomó de Abraham los diezmos, y bendijo al que tenía las promesas.

7 A nd without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

Y sin discusión alguna, el menor es bendecido por el mayor.

8 A nd here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

Y aquí ciertamente reciben los diezmos hombres mortales; pero allí, uno de quien se da testimonio de que vive.

9 A nd as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

Y por decirlo así, por medio de Abraham pagó el diezmo también Leví, que recibe los diezmos;

10 F or he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

porque aún estaba en los lomos de su padre cuando Melquisedec le salió al encuentro.

11 I f therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Si, pues, la perfección fuera por medio del sacerdocio levítico (porque a base de él recibió el pueblo la ley), ¿qué necesidad habría aún de que se levantase otro sacerdote diferente, según el orden de Melquisedec, y que no fuese nombrado según el orden de Aarón?

12 F or the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

Porque cambiado el sacerdocio, necesariamente ocurre también cambio de ley;

13 F or he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.

pues aquel de quien se dice esto, es de otra tribu, de la cual nadie se dedicó a oficiar en el altar.

14 F or it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

Porque es manifiesto que nuestro Señor surgió de Judá, de cuya tribu nada habló Moisés tocante a sacerdotes.

15 A nd it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

Y esto es aún más manifiesto, si a semejanza de Melquisedec se levanta un sacerdote diferente,

16 W ho is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

que haya llegado a serlo no conforme a la ley de una prescripción carnal, sino según el poder de una vida indestructible.

17 F or he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Pues está atestiguado: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, Según el orden de Melquisedec.

18 F or there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

Pues, por un lado, queda abrogado el mandamiento anterior a causa de su debilidad e inutilidad

19 F or the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

(pues la ley no llevó nada a la perfección), y por otro lado, se introduce una mejor esperanza, mediante la cual nos acercamos a Dios.

20 A nd inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

Y por cuanto no fue hecho sin juramento

21 ( For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

(porque los otros ciertamente fueron hechos sacerdotes sin juramento; pero éste, con el juramento del que le dijo: Juró el Señor, y no se arrepentirá: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, Según el orden de Melquisedec),

22 B y so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

tanto más ha llegado a ser Jesús fiador de un mejor pacto.

23 A nd they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:

Y, además, los otros sacerdotes llegaron a ser muchos, debido a que la muerte les impedía continuar;

24 B ut this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

mas éste, por cuanto permanece para siempre, tiene un sacerdocio intransferible;

25 W herefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

por lo cual puede también salvar completamente a los que por medio de él se acercan a Dios, viviendo siempre para interceder por ellos.

26 F or such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

Porque tal sumo sacerdote nos convenía: santo, inocente, sin mancha, apartado de los pecadores, y encumbrado por encima de los cielos;

27 W ho needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

que no tiene necesidad cada día, como aquellos sumos sacerdotes, de ofrecer primero sacrificios por sus propios pecados, y luego por los del pueblo; porque esto lo hizo una vez para siempre, cuando se ofreció a sí mismo.

28 F or the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Porque la ley constituye sumos sacerdotes a débiles hombres; pero la palabra del juramento, posterior a la ley, al Hijo, hecho perfecto para siempre.
